Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 305 Bombardier Bargain

Then she thought about something else. Even if she hadn't taken this car before, now that she was with Cassian, she could legitimately drive it anyway. It seemed she was just destined to have this car. But then another thought struck her. If I break up with Cassian, do I have to return the car to him? Natalie ran her hand over the steering wheel, feeling reluctant to give it up. Lost in these random thoughts the entire way, she finally arrived at her destination. Yesterday's vendor was already waiting near the office building. He saw an armored SUV approaching from a distance. He didn't dare to show himself at first. But when he spotted the familiar figure getting out, he quickly rushed forward. "Hello there!" Natalie locked her car. "Sorry to keep you waiting." The man quickly shook his head. "Not at all, not at all." In truth, since the Centralview District was far from where he lived, he'd started walking here immediately after packing up yesterday. Not everyone was like Natalie, still able to afford gas and drive a car. Although he used to be a small business owner, he'd driven Mercedes and BMWs. Now they sat idle like scrap metal. He'd had to take advantage of the cooler nighttime temperatures. He walked for several hours to get here. After resting and sleeping for a bit, it was time for their appointment. So he'd hurried downstairs to wait. Seeing such a cool armored SUV now, he was even more convinced. This young woman was no ordinary person. No wonder she could buy so much useless mink fur. She had money and could afford to be picky. He made up his mind to try something. Once they got upstairs, he'd sell her all the other items he had. The two quickly went upstairs. This building had been ransacked during the flooding. All the window glass was shattered and the rooms were turned completely upside down. The vendor led Natalie straight to a corner. Many large items were piled messily, all covered with cloths. The man pulled off the dirty tarp, revealing the snowmobile underneath. Natalie's eyes lit up. "A Bombardier?" The red and black body with its bold, rugged design was dusty but appeared to be in good condition. The man introduced it enthusiastically. "Miss, you know your stuff! I've only used this a few times. It's practically brand new. Don't mind the dirt, that's just from those looters. They were searching for supplies and pulled off the cover." He wiped some dust off as he spoke. "Lucky thing you can't eat a snowmobile—it wouldn't have survived!" Natalie nodded. Other than her, who would know that snowmobiles would be useful? After all, you couldn't eat them, drink them, or trade them for supplies. So naturally no one would bother hauling them away. The man was afraid Natalie wouldn't like it and kept talking. "I paid 20,000 for this snowmobile. It's top-of-the-line quality. Back in the day, if thieves broke into this place, this would've been the first thing stolen. Not some crackers and instant noodles!" Natalie waved her hand to interrupt him. "Like you said, times aren't what they used to be. No matter how valuable this thing once was, it's useless now." Hearing this, the man immediately got anxious. He'd walked all this way. This deal couldn't fall through! So he volunteered, "I can sell it to you at a low price." Natalie asked, "How much grain?" The man gritted his teeth. "Ten pounds of grain, can't go any lower!" This was his most beloved vehicle, even more than his daily car—a Mercedes. Since he was painfully parting with it, he had to get at least a month's worth of food, right? Even if she refused, he had to try. Natalie had originally wanted to haggle. But seeing his pained expression, she couldn't bring herself to do it. Once the extreme cold hit, this snowmobile could fetch 1,000 pounds of grain in the wealthy districts. He'd probably pass out from regret when that happened. So she nodded readily. "Deal." The man looked relieved. He'd thought they'd have to go several rounds of haggling, but this lady was so generous. While nodding enthusiastically, he asked again, "Miss, I also have snow tracks. Want to take a look?" Natalie looked confused. "Snow tracks? What are those?" The man crouched down and pulled off the covers from various items. He found what he'd mentioned in the far corner. "This is some cool new gear I bought before. You don't need to modify your original tires. It can turn any regular car into a snow vehicle instantly. "You just place the tracks on the ground, drive your car onto them, and secure the clamps. That's it." Natalie looked at the four massive snow tracks in front of her, her heart stirring. This was basically like putting snow boots on a car's four wheels! This was perfect. It would let her beloved ride function normally even in ice and snow. In extreme cold conditions like that, regular all-season and snow tires would be useless. She was thrilled but kept her expression calm to avoid arousing suspicion. She said dismissively, "The weather's so hot and there's no snow. What would I need this stuff for?"
