Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
"My head! Why is it spinning?" "What's going on? I can't lift my arms!" "My legs feel like jelly!" Within moments, people collapsed one after another. Natalie tugged at Cassian. "Don't just stand there like a target." Not everyone had gone down. A few men were still clutching their guns. Natalie and Cassian quickly blended into the crowd and dropped onto a table, pretending to be out cold too. Kelvin, stronger than most, held out longer. He shook Magnus, who had slumped at the table. "Magnus! You okay?" Magnus felt weak all over, his limbs refusing to obey. His lips trembled. "Someone ... poisoned us!" Kelvin's first instinct was to glance at Bonnie. To his surprise, she was slumped at the table as well. Around him, men were groaning and falling, no one looking suspicious. He drew his gun but froze. Who am I suppose to shoot? I have bullets, but no clear target. His strength gave out; slowly he slid down to the ground. The only one left standing was the young underling who had just rushed in with news. He looked around in shock. "K-Kelvin, what do I do?!"Kelvin frowned. The kid didn't look like the one who poisoned them. "Go ... go check on B—" Before he could finish, a figure moved like lightning and struck the young underling down. Kelvin's eyes widened. He ground his teeth. "BONNIE! It was you all along!" He had let his guard down, and she had fooled him completely. Magnus stared, stunned and furious. "Bonnie, how could you—" Yet no matter how furious they were, there was nothing they could do to stop her. Their minds were clear enough to speak, but their bodies were useless. They lay there helpless, like fish waiting to be gutted. Natalie glanced at Cassian, who was already on his feet. She said, "Gather the weapons." They couldn't risk anyone firing a lucky shot. Kelvin glared at her. "You're Olivia, aren't you?" Natalie sighed. "I told you, I'm an Ashford." She moved quickly, stripping the guns from the downed bodyguards one by one. Natalie had memorized all six of them during her walks with the dog, so she knew exactly who to search for. Kelvin's eyes burned as realization hit him. "You're Natalie!" By now, both he and Magnus understood—this woman was the one who killed Cyril, and now she was here to wipe them out too. Magnus froze as Cassian pulled a gun from his belt. "Who are you?" Cassian smirked. "What, Magnus? Don't recognize your sworn brother?"Magnus's eyes went wide. "You're Mr. Holland?!" Shock, fear, and shame all hit him at once. He'd been bragging in front of the real man this whole time. How embarrassing! Cassian didn't bother to answer. He moved to strip the guns off Kelvin instead. In minutes, the two of them had collected eight weapons. Natalie walked slowly toward Kelvin, while Cassian stepped back a little, watching the area for danger. Kelvin sat there limp, veins bulging in his face with rage. "You worthless brat! I should've killed you long ago!" Natalie didn't waste words. She raised her gun and fired. But Kelvin, who had appeared to be collapsed on the ground, suddenly bit down on his own tongue. A surge of raw energy jolted him upright. With one hand, he knocked the gun clean out of Natalie's grip. Then he swung a thick, muscled arm in a crushing punch. Natalie ducked, turned, and struck back. But hitting him was like punching a brick wall. The man's years of muscle weren't for show. Her blow barely slowed him down. Kelvin bit through his tongue, ready to drag Natalie down with him. He gathered the last of his strength and charged straight at Natalie. This time Natalie didn't try to trade punches. She slid behind him, pressing a small switch on the silver ring around her finger. A steel wire shot out, wrapping around his throat. With one sharp pull, she cut his head clean off. Even she froze for a second. She hadn't expected Harold's gift—the ring—to be that powerful. It sliced through bone like nothing. Kelvin's body crumpled to the floor, blood spraying across the room. "Arggghhh!" Amber, slumped at the table nearby, screamed in horror. Natalie ignored her and turned to Cassian. "Good thing you gave me that drug." If she had fought head-on with the strong and powerful Kelvin, she might not have come out without injuries. That guy was truly tough. Cassian stood calmly on the side, watching the Medusa cut a grown man into two. He wasn't nervous at all. "Even without the drug, you would've beaten him." Natalie gave him a faint smile, then turned her eyes to Kelvin's body lying on the ground, his head severed.
