Theresa, the Doomsday Queen
Something about these three felt suspicious, like they had snuck in to act behind everyone's back. They had even shut off the room's surveillance. "Who exactly sent you?" Theresa grabbed the leader by the collar and interrogated him, but he refused to speak. With a series of sharp cracks, she crushed several of his bones. Beads of sweat the size of beans streamed down his forehead in pain. Even so, all three of them kept their mouths tightly shut. The look in their eyes was one of resolute willingness to die. Seeing this, Theresa thought of the syringe he had tried to inject her with. "If you don't talk, I'll have to test this on you." The moment the syringe glinted under the light, a flicker flashed across the leader's eyes. Very quickly, it returned to that same death-defying stare as he looked at Theresa without a word. Just as the needle was about to touch him, Theresa heard a string of frantic commands. "Stop! No one is to harm Theresa! Do not act any further!" The familiar voice left Theresa stunned for a moment. She pulled off the earpiece from the man's ear and spoke into it. "Herold?" Upon hearing her voice, the person on the other end froze as well. "Terry?" "It's me." "Are you okay?" Herold's voice trembled with excitement. "Still alive, I guess." She heard him sighing in relief on the other end of the line. "That's good. They're with me, and I'll be at the headquarters to save you tomorrow." "They're with you?" she asked. "Yes. To be exact, we're all Torchbearers." "What is that?" "We oppose the Starborn Order."After a five-minute explanation from Herold, Theresa finally understood what this group was about. The Starborn Order had steered off their original path, and a dissenting faction slowly grew. Herold united these people under an alliance called the Torchbearers. It was a group that tried to leave a spark of hope for humanity, secretly resisting the Starborn Order. The fact that Theresa had been able to fight the Starborn Order for so long also had something to do with them. Otherwise, given how crazy and powerful they were, the group would have eliminated her ages ago. "Why did they want to kill me, though?" "Because they thought you were going to side with the Starborn Order," Herold explained. "You're too strong. If you become the Zombie King, no one would be able to stop you. That's why they acted on their own." Theresa was speechless. It turned out they were on the same side. Herold's end seemed to be monitored. "I can't say any more, but I'll be at the headquarters tomorrow. Wait for me, alright? Those three can be trusted." Theresa remained silent. She looked at the three men on the ground she'd almost beaten to death, then helped them up. "You could've said something earlier. If you had, I wouldn't have hit you that hard." The three of them stayed silent. Still, Theresa gave each of them an Emergency Pill. The one who had been beaten the worst got two, and she applied some pain relief gel to his injuries. It was a product of the system and far from ordinary. Before long, the three guys who had been on the verge of death were brought back around. After regaining consciousness, they looked at Theresa with mixed feelings. "Staring at me like that won't help. It's your own fault for being weak and dumb, trying to assassinate someone when you're not even strong enough."The three of them were speechless. After a moment of silence, the leader in the white coat spoke first. "Are you really not going to help the Starborn Order?" Theresa looked at him. "Help them? I'm going to help send them straight to hell! Until every last anti-human monster is wiped out, I will never stop!" Hearing this, all three of them relaxed. They looked at her warmly and somewhat apologetic at the same time. "We were too reckless earlier." "There's no need to apologize, comrades. How many people are in your organization altogether?" The man in the white coat looked at Theresa. "Five in total." Theresa fell silent. Only five, and that included Herold. It was a pitiful number. She couldn't even be bothered to ask who the last person, the one planted inside the enemy, was. Theresa merely asked, "Have you ever made a plan to destroy the Starborn Order?" All three of them nodded at the same time. "What is it?" "We're going to kill their king." Theresa was appalled. "The Starborn Order's main focus is on creating the strongest Zombie King. Their plan is to first produce one, then extract all the information from its gleamstone before applying that ultimate power to themselves," the leader explained.
