Theresa, the Doomsday Queen

Chapter 705 Another Shot?

Observing the surveillance in the room and the presence of everyone in front of her, she calmly extended her hand. After the syringe was injected, the people in white coats behind her rolled over an ability-testing device. "Please put your hands here." Theresa glanced at the device in front of her and placed both hands on it. Before long, the familiar light lit up. Compared to before, the brightness was far weaker. Seeing this, the people in white coats seemed satisfied. They removed the casing used for the syringe, then turned to leave with the testing device in tow. Sage looked at her. "There will be more tomorrow and the day after." "I know." Theresa nodded at him. She felt her mental manipulation abilities starting to weaken. Soon, night came, and Theresa's other powers gradually faded as well. However, her enhanced strength and speed, half-zombie physique, and domain system remained. After all, those weren't abilities. Her half-zombie physique was pretty self-explanatory. Her system was part of the domain, and not tied to her ability. Her speed and strength stemmed from intense early training, further boosted by the system. Only a portion of strength and speed Theresa accumulated through abilities were somewhat restricted, but it had little impact on her. Still, she was at the peak of human capability. As Theresa sensed the changes in her body, there was a sudden knock on the door. Knock. Knock. At once, she sensed the surveillance in her room flicker. Even with her mind powers exhausted, her long-trained instincts told her something was wrong with the camera in her room. The very next second, the door was pushed open. Three individuals in white coats she had seen during the day appeared before her once again. "It's time for your next injection." The trio wheeled in the cart and immediately shut the door upon entering the room. Theresa looked at them, her eyebrows slightly raised. "Didn't you say it was tomorrow?" "You have one more tonight," they replied, not bothering to explain any further. One of them picked up the syringe and moved to prep Theresa. She dodged. "Where's Sage?" "Decision Maker Ten is busy," the man answered curtly. "Please cooperate with us." Cooperate? Over her dead body. "I need Sage here. If he doesn't come, I'm not taking it." Hearing Theresa's words, the man holding the syringe seemed anxious. "Decision Maker Ten is not here. We're in charge now." Every bit of his reaction was noticed by the sharp-minded Theresa. She became even more certain that there was something wrong with him. "You just said Decision Maker Ten is busy. Now, you're saying he's not here. So where exactly is he? If you can't get him, I'll look for him myself." As she spoke, Theresa stood up. The moment she got to her feet, the man in front of her leaped into action, raising the syringe at lightning speed and lunging at her. Theresa had been injected with an ability-suppressing agent during the day, and her powers were weakened. Without them, people were pitifully fragile. The trio attacked at the same time, but they were stunned the next moment. Theresa, standing before them, turned into a dark blur, moving at extreme speed as she dodged their attack. Suddenly, every one of them took a vicious kick to the chest. The impact was like being hit by a speeding car. Their chests felt as if their bones had shattered, their hearts trembling in panic as all three of them were sent flying like kites, slamming heavily into the wall. As expected of a Level 9 strength-based ability user! All three of them stared at her with wide, disbelieving eyes as Theresa calmly took the syringe from them and walked over, twirling it playfully in her hand. What was going on? Did the ability-suppressing agent not work on her? How was that possible? "Who sent you? Did Decision Maker One decide to finish me off early?" Theresa spun the syringe between her fingers and walked toward them with a cheerful smile. The leader looked at her, his eyes flashing with intense killing intent. His throat moved slightly as he opened his mouth, about to bite the poison hidden inside his mouth and take his life. Seeing this, Theresa drove her fist straight into his mouth. With a loud crack, his jaw was knocked out of place. The two behind him realized the mission had failed and also tried to kill themselves. Theresa reacted instantly, throwing a punch at each of them. With a dull thud, both of their jaws were knocked crooked as well. But at that moment, Theresa realized these three didn't seem to be Decision Maker One's men. If he wanted to make a move and turn her into a zombie sooner, there was no reason for them to end their lives if the mission failed. It would've made sense to call for backup instead.
