Theresa, the Doomsday Queen

Chapter 707 Covering for Them

Hearing this, Theresa suddenly understood everything. "I should've known. They make it sound like human evolution, but it's all bullsh*t. They just want to make themselves stronger!" "That's right. The people at the top of the Starborn Order are all insane," the man in the white coat replied. "Everyone is addicted to the power brought by the zombie virus. They call it a new civilization crushing the old one, but in the end, it's all about turning themselves into the strongest beings." "Are they not afraid of turning into zombies?" she asked. "They want god-like power." Theresa's gaze turned even colder. How outrageous of them! Killing them a hundred thousand times wouldn't be enough to ease her hatred. Just then, she heard urgent footsteps outside the door. "Theresa!" Sage's voice sounded from outside. The room's surveillance had been cut off by the Torchbearers, and the image of Theresa sitting inside the room froze on the screen. Even someone as careless as Sage finally realized something was wrong after ten minutes. He rushed over to check on her. When Theresa saw Sage arrive, she glanced at the other three people in the room. "Get to the bathroom, quick!" She shoved the men and their equipment into the bathroom. She even turned on the shower to let the sound of running water fill the room. Seconds later, Sage burst into her room with a group of people behind him. "Theresa!" he yelled while rushing in, only to see the living area empty. He only heard the sound of rushing water coming from the bathroom. Without hesitation, he headed straight for it. Just as he reached for the doorknob, the door swung open. Theresa wrapped herself with a bath towel and stepped out, still wearing her shower cap."What's going on?" Theresa stood there with her arms crossed over her chest. Seeing her, Sage finally let out a sigh of relief. "Are you okay?" "What could possibly be wrong with me?" "The surveillance in your room went down, so I came to check." Theresa replied lazily, "I see. So when are you leaving?" "Are you sure nothing's going on in here?" Sage's mental ability sharpened. He could sense that there were still other people present. "Since you're here, I have a few things I really need to tell you, Mr. Sage. Otherwise, I might not get the chance," she said sweetly. Caught off guard by the sudden change in her tone, Sage lost focus. "Why don't we head somewhere nice and have a talk? Let's go to your place. There are too many cameras here." Theresa batted her eyelashes at him. Sage thought about it while looking at her. "Come on, I'll be evolving in another two days. I have plenty of things to tell you, Mr. Sage." The man didn't know what to say. "Well, don't you need to dress up?" "What for? Let's just go." Theresa strode out of the bathroom and grabbed him by the hand, pulling him along. The tips of Sage's ears suddenly turned red. As if under a spell, he followed her out, leading the large group behind him away from her room as well. After all of them had left, the three men quietly made their way out of Theresa's room. "She seems trustworthy," one of the men in white said. "Also, she's got impressive strength." "She might actually fulfill the Torchbearers' wish," the leader of the three said in a low voice, his gaze solemn. They exchanged looks before quickly leaving the area. Meanwhile, Sage's room was on the underground level. His layout was similar to Theresa's, whereby he had a spacious living area, a bedroom, a bathroom, and a balcony. But instead of a garden view, he faced a vast, dark ocean. After entering, Theresa looked around the room. Once she was sure there were no surveillance cameras, she casually dropped onto the couch. There was food, drinks, and a TV remote on the table—far better than what she had in her own place. She turned on the TV and helped herself to both the food and entertainment. Sage stood behind while observing her. "Didn't you say you had something to tell me?" "Oh." Theresa turned to look at him. "It's a long story. I don't even know where to start." "Take your time." Sage pulled a whole pack of cold beer out of the fridge and walked over to her. "I've got all night." Theresa yawned. "Now that I think about it, I should just go back and sleep. I'll tell you tomorrow." "Tell me before you leave." Sage pressed down on her shoulder. "Unless you were lying to me just now, I'll review all the surveillance footage from today and find out exactly what you were up to." Theresa remained silent. For the sake of covering for her comrades, she figured she'd better make something up.
