Theresa, the Doomsday Queen

Chapter 683 Cutting Away the Rotten Part

He had already made up his mind. He would have both Lily and Clara. Now was the apocalypse. There were no laws and no old morals. As a camp leader, he could take both without it being a big deal. Lily was so sensible. She would understand. At least, that was what he thought. However, his words received no response. "Where is Lily!" Harrance glared at his subordinate, who looked like he was constipated, and repeated himself in dissatisfaction. "Mr. Campbell, Ms. Barnes went with Blazing Sun Camp." "What!" Harrance leapt up and stormed out of the room. As he ran outside, a fighter jet flew directly overhead and headed far to the east. "And Ms. Barnes said she will never see you again in this life." At that moment, Harrance's heart shattered completely. He watched the fighter jet streak across the sky and ran along the ground after it, all the way to the easternmost city wall. But there was no way he could catch up with the jet. By the time he got to the top of the eastern wall, the jet was gone and only a tiny black dot remained in the distance. Harrance stared at it in disbelief. A sudden wave of loss and fear hit him all at once. It was the apocalypse. He had no helicopter and not enough fuel to drive all the way east to find Lily. Outside, zombies roamed in every direction. Never seen again. She is really gone.He had truly lost Lily Barnes. The woman he had loved for fifteen years. He was completely terrified. He was completely panicked. "Lily!" "Come back!" "I'm sorry!" Lily did not shed another tear. She sat quietly in Theresa's helicopter and beside her was Calvin. He had followed because he could not tolerate Clara's audacious rise. The East Sea Camp's leader was Harrance, that was undeniable. He was the strongest, but the camp would collapse without Lily. However, Harrance's earlier behavior on the city wall had been utterly disappointing. He had ignored Lily for Clara and left her to face everyone's judgment after his betrayal. Honestly, it was completely irresponsible. A lot of people had lost respect for him too. Lily was the deputy camp leader and respected by everyone. Clara meant nothing in comparison. Both morally and practically, it was wrong to leave Lily behind and take Clara with him. Once Lily left, Calvin had followed. Others had thought about it too, but they were not familiar with Theresa, nor willing to abandon their own camp for another. They did not dare. After this, Harrance's prestige at his own camp had taken a hit. "Lily, just cry it if you want to," Calvin said. Lily shook her head, her face calm and detached as usual. "What's there to cry about? Grandma always said if an apple rots, just cut away the bad part. The rest is still good." Theresa watched Lily and her eyes lit up. She admired Lily's ability, but she admired her decisiveness even more. She knew it would not be easy to let go of fifteen years of love, but Lily had the courage to decisively remove the source of her pain. If she forgave Harrance's betrayal, she would live in misery and humiliation. She would serve him at the camp while enduring him living with Clara. Did I really ruin my life? Why let it drag me down? If something was rotten, cut it early. Life wasn't guaranteed to be smooth. "Exactly. Our alliance is full of good men," Theresa said with a teasing smile. "Come to my camp and take your pick. Anyone who marries you will be the lucky one." Lily's face, usually tense and silent, relaxed. "Ms. Hall, I think you're right. But I don't want to be someone else's luck. I want to be my own." Theresa's smile widened at that. By noon, the helicopter returned to the Blazing Sun Alliance. Lily and Calvin were exhausted. In the later stages of the flight, they had fallen asleep completely. They stayed asleep until the helicopter landed and missed the view of the Blazing Sun Alliance from above. The others on the plane were just as exhausted. The entire trip had drained them completely.
