Theresa, the Doomsday Queen

Chapter 660 The Arrival of Reinforcements

The gaunt zombie opened its gaping maw and lunged straight at a female combatant in front of it. She was a fire-based ability user. Her powers had already been completely drained. So drained, in fact, that when the zombie charged, she didn't even have the strength to dodge. All she could do was watch, wide-eyed, as the grotesque, horrifying creature threw open its bloodied jaws and lunged at her. Then— Bang! The zombie, moments away from landing on her, was blown apart by a shot to the head. The female fighter's eyes widened as a warplane appeared overhead. Bang! Bang! A torrent of firepower poured down from a helicopter hovering above. Fully armed soldiers dangled from both sides, shouldering an array of weapons and sweeping the horde below with relentless gunfire. Bang! A single-man missile struck the pyramid of zombies at the northwest corner with pinpoint accuracy. The pile exploded from the center. Limbs and corpses flew through the air as the sturdy zombie tower collapsed with a crash, sending countless zombies tumbling from the top. The massive noise drew the attention of other nearby zombies. "Graaaar—!" "Raaaar—!" Zombies from other directions threw themselves forward recklessly, indifferent to death. The helicopter hovering above swung around and headed a kilometer away from the camp. As it flew, it dropped bombs relentlessly. Boom after boom echoed across the area, the explosions and falling ordnance drawing the zombies toward a plain a kilometer away. From atop the wall, the female fighter who had almost been knocked down shouted urgently, "Quick! Pour the gasoline while we've got the chance!" As soon as she finished, people stationed at every corner of the wall sprang into action, tilting the limited fuel they had, letting it spill down toward the horde below. Boom! Flames rained down from above. Two-thirds of the horde had been drawn away, leaving just a third of the zombies, who quickly found themselves engulfed in a raging inferno. The catapults on the walls continued loading and hurling massive stones. Everyone seized the opportunity to deliver a final blow to the remaining zombies. By the time the helicopter returned from a kilometer away, the zombie horde outside the walls had already been reduced to a mix of fire and shattered corpses. Only the initial ten percent of zombies stubbornly remained, pressing against the walls. But this small number was no longer a serious threat to East Sea Camp. Everyone on the walls felt utterly exhausted. At the sight of the zombie siege below had finally been broken, they collapsed one by one onto the battlements. Not even a finger could move. They had been fighting the horde for over five hours. This was the largest zombie siege they had ever faced in all these years. What had started as just a few hundred zombies suddenly turned into a relentless wave. The horde came in tides, growing larger and larger—hundreds, then thousands, and eventually over ten thousand.East Sea Camp had just over two thousand people, surrounded by more than ten thousand zombies. To make matters worse, their camp leader was absent. Deputy Camp Leader Lily ordered everyone capable of fighting to step up and resist. No one dared hide. There was nowhere to hide. If the zombies broke through the walls, everyone would die. After the battle, the survivors lay scattered and disheveled along the walls. Their hearts pounded violently, as if they might burst out of their throats, dry and smoking from the exertion. At that moment, the survivors heard the familiar rat-a-tat-tat of helicopter blades. A black helicopter approached steadily, flying directly toward their camp. It was the same helicopter that had just broken the zombie siege, giving them their greatest lifeline. The helicopter slowly descended and came to a hover. First to disembark was a squad of heavily equipped operatives, wrapped from head to toe in gear that left no skin exposed. They wore high-security black helmets and combat suits made of materials the survivors had never seen before. Every one of them carried a full load of weapons—submachine guns, sniper rifles, single-man missiles... After they landed, a young woman appeared last. Her combat suit was different from the others, and she wore a down jacket over it. Instead of a helmet, she had on a warm, woolen cap. The moment she stepped out, all eyes turned to her. At the northwest corner, the exhausted female fighter slowly got to her feet after seeing her, limping step by step toward them. "I'm Lily Barnes, Deputy Camp Leader of East Sea Camp. May I ask... You are...?" Theresa's gaze fell on the woman in front of her. "Blazing Sun Alliance, Theresa Hall." The moment they heard her name, the eyes of everyone around lit up.
