Grief, Betrayals, and a Core of Blaze
The moment Natalie finished speaking, the two children shrieked with excitement. "Fantastic!" They quickly shed their coats and instantly bolted toward the courtyard outside. Natalie smiled, looking at the pure joy on their faces. Baron watched her, and it was as if he were seeing past the present Natalie to the poor, unloved child she had been. He got up and walked over to Natalie, whispering, "Come on, Mother Hen. Just warning you, I won’t be taking it easy." "Hmph! Just try it! There’s no way I’m letting you catch my kids!" Natalie marched confidently out to the yard. When the children saw Natalie arrive, they immediately clung to her clothes. Baron, seeing they were still getting ready, suddenly let out a whoop and charged. "Ah! Mommy, run!" "Mommy, save us!" The children’s laughter was clear and sharp as they played the chase game, ringing out with joy. Natalie quickly moved to block Baron, dodging left and right, thoroughly enjoying the game. Ruby and Waylon also heard the clear laughter outside and came to the floor-to-ceiling window, where they witnessed the beautiful family scene. The last light of the sunset fell upon them, making the couple upstairs feel a sudden rush of yearning and envy. "Do you think if Natalie hadn't been switched at birth and had grown up with us, this is what our family of four would look like?" Ruby’s eyes were filled with guilt and affection for Natalie. Waylon sighed and said, "The past will eventually be dealt with. We must look forward. We will do everything we can to be good to her and the children to slowly make up for it. Your main priority now is to cooperate with Baron and rebuild your health. Only when you’re well can you help Natalie with the kids." "I will. I was the one who was foolish before and gave evil people an opening. From now on, for the sake of the children, I will never let my spirits flag again." Waylon felt immense relief seeing Ruby in this state. Natalie didn't know Ruby and Waylon were watching them play upstairs. She was completely caught up in the fun, acting like a child herself—guarding the kids, dodging Baron’s sneak attacks, and listening to the children’s shouts and instructions from behind. She was having the time of her life. A thin layer of sweat broke out on her face, making her look incredibly youthful and happy. Listening to her and the children’s laughter, Baron’s heart swelled with happiness. The family played for quite a while until the butler announced that dinner was served, and they finally stopped. The children were reluctant to end the game, and Natalie was thrilled, her eyes bright with excitement. Baron quickly grabbed a towel and handed it to Natalie. "Go take a shower first. I’ll handle the kids." "Okay." Natalie’s eyes were curved in a smile, reflecting only Baron. Baron absolutely adored this side of Natalie. Sean went with Baron to shower. Ruby also came downstairs, took Susie, and led her to bathe.Waylon looked at Baron's current gentle demeanor and chuckled, "Who would ever believe that the Godfather of Murica acts this way around his wife and children?" "Dad, please don’t tease me. Who would ever believe that the Chairman of the Stone Group gets his ear pinched by his wife at home?" Baron’s response immediately made Waylon cough. Flynn arrived right on time as well. "What are you all talking about?" "We’re talking about catching a ghost tonight." Baron’s abrupt statement surprised both Waylon and Flynn. "Catching a ghost? What ghost are you talking about?" Waylon looked at his son’s puzzled face and suddenly understood. "You found a lead?" Baron nodded. "Something like that. We’ll discuss it after Natalie comes down and we’ve finished dinner. We still have time." Waylon agreed that Baron’s timing was right. A family should always be together and honest. Nothing should be hidden, or the outcome could be like his own past, where he hurt his wife and allowed his youngest daughter to be manipulated and lost for over twenty years. "Fine. Go take a shower. We’ll talk after we eat." Waylon settled the matter. Hearing him, everyone went off to prepare. No long after, Natalie came downstairs in casual clothes.Ruby also came down with her child. The men had been slightly quicker than the women. The family gathered at the dining table, and the butler began serving the meal. The two children were quite hungry and ate quickly from playing so enthusiastically with Natalie and Baron. When Natalie and Baron tried to serve the children, they didn't even get a chance. Waylon and Ruby were like devoted servants, constantly placing food on the children’s plates. Their loving expressions were impossible to contain. Seeing this, Baron stopped fussing over the children and instead brought Natalie’s favorite dishes directly to her.
