Grief, Betrayals, and a Core of Blaze
Baron finished speaking and lowered his head, feigning profound sadness. Susie, seeing Baron in this state, immediately felt she had been too harsh. She tugged at Baron's sleeve and quickly said, "I'm sorry, Daddy. I didn't know. Don't be sad. You still have us! At the very least, we won't fight you for Mommy anymore." "Sister!" Sean tried to stop Susie from saying the last sentence, but it was too late. Baron instantly raised his head, looking at Susie with shining eyes, and held out his pinky finger. "Promise me! Let’s hook pinkies and hang ourselves, and don’t change for a hundred years." Susie was stunned by Baron’s quick change in expression. Sean, completely exasperated, rolled his eyes at Baron and said, "Daddy, aren’t you being a bit too shameless?" "Then was what Tangtang just said a lie to me?" Baron’s expression grew sad again. Susie saw this and quickly extended her pinky finger. "Don’t be sad, Daddy. I’ll hook pinkies with you." Sean was once again speechless. Natalie woke up and, not seeing the children, came out to look. She didn't expect to see Baron tricking the children the moment she opened the door. Her lips curved into a slight smile. She leaned lazily against the doorframe, watching Baron successfully manipulate Susie—who couldn't bear to see him sad and quickly took the bait—while Sean rolled his eyes in scorn and disgust, nearly looking at the ceiling. She felt a sense of peace and simple happiness. She was willing to use everything to preserve this peaceful and simple happiness. Sean was the first to notice Natalie. "Mommy! You’re awake?" Sean immediately got up and ran toward Natalie. Natalie quickly crouched down and caught her son. The little child was soft and sweet, smelling lovely and feeling cuddly in her arms. Natalie felt her entire heart filled up. "Mommy thinks you might have grown a little taller." Natalie stroked her son’s hair, her eyes incredibly gentle. Susie saw this and tried to get up and run to Natalie but was caught by Baron’s arm. "Didn’t you just say you were going to give Mommy to me?" Baron’s wronged and pathetic look truly made it impossible for Susie to refuse. "Daddy~" Susie felt a hint of regret. Sean saw the scene and rolled his eyes again. "Mommy, please control Daddy. His shamelessness has exceeded my comprehension. And don’t you think he’s bullying Susie?" Sean’s words made Natalie chuckle softly. She carried her son over to Baron and, reaching out, pulled Susie into her arms as well. "Don’t listen to your Daddy. I just love hugging you and your brother. You are both so soft and smell so good." Natalie finished speaking and kissed her daughter on the cheek. Susie's little face immediately flushed, but her eyes were sparkling with happiness. Baron, also without shame, leaned his head forward. "Honey, I want a kiss too." "No! Go away!" Natalie pushed Baron’s head away. Baron exaggeratedly fell onto the sofa, letting out a loud wail. "Ah! I am just a little weed that no one cares about! Oh, little cabbage, turning yellow in the field, three years old, without a mom…" Natalie’s lips twitched slightly. Susie, being a sensitive little girl, heard Baron and immediately teared up. She climbed off Natalie's lap, ran over, took Baron’s hand, and said, "Don’t cry, Daddy. I like you. I really, really like you." "Wuwu, you are the best." Baron instantly pulled Susie into his embrace, whimpering falsely. Natalie could barely watch. However, seeing a man who was so powerful outside the home return and playfully tease his children like this, Natalie felt he was suddenly enveloped in a golden halo, making him seem even taller. This scene was something she had only ever dreamed of achieving when she was a child. In this moment, Natalie was absolutely certain that Baron was an extremely devoted father!Baron felt Natalie's intense gaze. He stuck his tongue out at her, looking playfully mischievous. Sean was about to say something, but Natalie covered his mouth. "How about Mommy plays with you for a while?" As soon as Natalie said this, Sean’s eyes immediately lit up. "Great! Great! Mommy, what game should we play?" "How about Eagle Catching the Chicks?" When Natalie was a child, the thing she envied most was seeing other parents play this game with their children. Although it was a bit childish, it was something Natalie had never dared to imagine doing. Susie quickly turned around. "Really? Mommy! Who’s the eagle?" "Your Daddy is the eagle, Mommy is the mother hen, and you two will be my little chicks behind me, alright?"
