He Cheated. I Rose.

Chapter 304 Price of Freedom

Arthur watched the weeping woman and spoke calmly, "Jennifer, get up and take a seat. Let's talk properly." Jennifer bit her lip, then obediently rose and settled gently on the sofa across from him. They sat facing each other in silence for a long moment. It was then that Jennifer noticed the documents on the table—a legal agreement and a blank check. She looked up at Arthur, confusion written across her face. "Arthur, what is all this?" Arthur met her gaze steadily. "Jennifer, I know I owe you. You saved my life once—that's a debt I can't ignore." "Arthur, what are you trying to say? I don't understand," Jennifer's voice trembled, thick with tears, as if she were terrified of what was coming. "These documents transfer a ten percent stake in Myers Group. I've already signed them. Once you add your signature, you'll become a shareholder." Arthur's eyes shifted to the blank check. "If that's not enough, here's another option—a blank check. Fill in any amount, and I'll honor it. No matter how much." Jennifer studied Arthur's resolute expression and gave a bitter smile. "You're trying to make me leave for good, aren't you?" "If that's how you see it, I won't deny it." Arthur lowered his voice. "Jennifer, whatever your feelings for me are, you can't keep targeting Chloe for such shallow reasons. What you've been doing is wrong." She let out a hollow laugh. "What's the point of saying all this now?" "Chloe has never cared about our relationship. She despises us—and yet you keep harassing her, framing and slandering her over and over. How could you do that, Jennifer? What do you gain from it?" Arthur laughed at himself. "Honestly, I disgust myself now." Remembering what Chloe had told him before, Arthur felt it was all his fault. He hadn't cherished what he had when he had it, and now he was drowning in regret. He deserved this. Chloe had cut ties with them completely, yet they kept dragging her back into their mess. They were the ones in the wrong. He had given Jennifer so much. He'd even convinced himself he should marry her—after all, she wanted it, and she had saved his life. If not for her, he wouldn't be alive. If that was what she wanted, he thought he should comply. But after these past few weeks, Arthur realized that going through with it would only bring deeper regret. He was willing to compensate Jennifer however he could, no matter the cost. He wouldn't hesitate to give up the entire Myers Group if that was what it took. He had already lost what mattered most. Now, he had nothing left to ask for. The only thing he wanted was to atone—to hope that someday Chloe might forgive him. Even if he could only watch her from a distance, never to be close again, that would be enough. "Arthur, do you really think I want to be with you for your money?" Jennifer let out a scornful laugh. "Do you think I would lower myself like that?" "Jennifer, given how things stand between us, do you really believe there could be any genuine feeling left if we stayed together?" Arthur's voice remained steady. "Why don't we both handle this with a little dignity?" "Dignity?" Jennifer burst into harsh, unrestrained laughter that echoed through the hotel suite. "Since when did you care about dignity? If you had any, why did you get divorced in the first place?" Her body shook slightly from the force of her laughter. "Arthur, so you admit you're disgusting now! I wasn't sure you realized," Jennifer sneered. "You knew Chloe hated me, yet you still indulged me and focused all your attention on me. Now you regret it and want her forgiveness—you're even willing to damage the company for her. How noble. Where was this devotion before?" Arthur remained silent. "You think this makes you look devoted, but really, you're the most pathetic of all. You want to have your cake and eat it too. What a grand performance of love. You'd be a laughingstock if people knew. And that self-righteous mother of yours—even if Chloe forgave you and came back, would you kick your own mother out? Because she and Chloe can't stand each other. You'd have to choose one." Arthur said nothing. "Arthur, I look down on you. Take back your so-called generosity. I don't want any of it." Jennifer snatched the documents and the check from the table and threw them directly in Arthur's face. He didn't flinch, letting the papers strike him and flutter to the floor. "I did those terrible things, Arthur. I admit it. I hate Chloe because she had you all those years. I was jealous—resentful—it drove me mad," Jennifer said coldly. "Isn't it obvious? I just wanted you all to myself."
