He Cheated. I Rose.

Chapter 303 Hidden Neighbors

She felt relieved that she had purchased the property under another person's name. If it had been under hers, Eugene might have discovered it already. Still, she thought there was no real need to keep hiding it—she would tell him when the right moment came. That way, Eugene wouldn't have to keep dropping them off at a hotel only for them to return separately. It would be simpler just to have him take them straight home. "Mommy, I just checked online. Because of Arthur's statement, Myers Group is facing a lot of public attention. Luckily, his words resonated with people online, so the fallout hasn't been too bad. I'm just not sure whether that's a good thing or not," Robert said. Hearing this, Chloe tightened her grip on the steering wheel. She had expected Arthur to go public about their past marriage—but she hadn't anticipated a full press conference. She originally assumed he would just post something on the company's official social media. Still, limited damage was good. It would make their future competition more interesting. She wondered if Arthur was truly prepared for what came next. ***** Meanwhile, at a boutique hotel outside the city... Jennifer arrived with Jenarth, feeling nervous as she scanned the hallway. The entire top floor was deserted, which only heightened her unease. Secretly, though, part of her was excited. After the press conference, Arthur had called and asked to meet her here. Why a hotel? Had he finally given up on Chloe and decided to treat her better? But Jennifer swatted that thought away in an instant. If Arthur could wipe Chloe off the map that easily, she wouldn't have had to scheme and plot so relentlessly all this time. No—he must have another reason for summoning her. He hadn't discussed the press conference with her in advance. If she had to guess, he probably wanted to end things. But breaking up with her wouldn't be that simple. That was why she had brought Jenarth along. Today, she would make Arthur understand what regret really meant. If he thought he could just walk away, he was dreaming. From now on, there would be no other woman in his life—either he stayed alone, or the only one by his side would be her.Holding Jenarth's hand, Jennifer walked directly toward the only open door at the end of the corridor. Inside, the room was dark. She reached for the light switch, and the living room suddenly brightened, revealing Arthur slumped on the sofa. He looked disheveled, lying there limply like a deflated balloon. His handsome face looked unkempt, with stubble shading his jaw. It was the first time Jennifer had ever seen him so undone. She led Jenarth inside. The boy was the first to speak. "Daddy Arthur?" His voice was small, almost wounded. Hearing him, Arthur lifted his gaze to the mother and son standing before him. Jennifer spoke cautiously, "Arthur, I know I've wronged you, but please don't punish yourself like this. It... It breaks my heart to see you like this." She lowered her head, her voice trembling. Tears welled in her eyes, ready to fall at any moment. "Jennifer, haven't I treated you well?" Arthur's voice was soft, as though it had taken great effort to form the words. "Arthur, I'm sorry," Jennifer said, her voice trembling as she sank to the floor, hands clasped tightly on her thighs, head bowed low. "I know what I did was unforgivable—but it was only because I love you! I was terrified of losing you—that's why I did those terrible things." "Is that so?" Arthur's voice was raw with emotion, sharp yet strained. "Arthur, it's the truth! You know how long I've loved you—how I never dared to hope for more. I come from nothing, and after everything I've been through... that man..." She dissolved into ragged sobs. "I had no choice. None of this was what I wanted." "Mommy, please stand up!" Jenarth whimpered, tears spilling down his cheeks as he reached for her. "If you're on the floor, I'll sit with you too!" He started to drop to his knees beside her. Jennifer's arms shot out, pulling him tightly into her embrace. "Jenarth, you're my only treasure—please don't cry." "Mommy, doesn't anyone love us anymore?" Jenarth murmured. "Do I have to go back to staying in hotels, waiting for you to come back from your gigs every night?" "Jenarth, that's enough," Jennifer said, holding him tighter. "Jenarth, go into the bedroom and watch TV," Arthur said, his tone flat, devoid of its usual warmth. Jenarth looked at Jennifer, confusion in his eyes. "Jenarth, be a good boy. Go into the room. Mom and Arthur need to talk," Jennifer urged softly. Reluctantly, Jenarth let go of her hand, stood up, and walked toward the bedroom, glancing back every few steps. He carefully closed the door behind him. Now, only Arthur and Jennifer remained in the room.
