He Cheated. I Rose.
"What a shame. No matter how hard I try, I just can't seem to get what I truly want," Jennifer said, casting a sidelong glance at Arthur. "Since you find us so unpleasant to look at, and nothing I do captures your attention anymore, Jenarth and I might as well leave this city for good. "Once we're gone, you'll be free to pursue Chloe however you wish. We won't be a problem for you ever again." Arthur remained seated on the sofa in complete silence. No matter what Jennifer said, his expression didn't change—it was as if he had already accepted how this would end. "I suppose we're just... unwanted," Jennifer said, her voice catching as she took a deep breath. She brought a hand to rest gently on her lower abdomen. "I was actually planning to share some good news with you, but it doesn't seem to matter now. Maybe... maybe this baby just wasn't meant to be." With that, she turned as if to head into the bedroom to get Jenarth. "Wait," Arthur said, suddenly standing and grabbing her wrist. "What did you just say?" His grip tightened as he stared at her, confusion and urgency in his eyes. Jennifer kept her back to him and didn't answer. His reaction had already given her the confirmation she needed. Everything was unfolding exactly as she had planned. She could use this pregnancy to bind Arthur to her. Truthfully, nothing had happened between them that night—but he didn't know that. He believed it had, and he carried that guilt. Now, with a baby involved, that guilt would only deepen. "Arthur, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have kept this from you, but now..." Jennifer began to cry, her shoulders trembling. "I don't know what to do. I tried so hard to be the woman you wanted—I hoped you'd see me differently. But in the end... it feels like we're only drifting further apart." "Jennifer, answer me. What baby?" Arthur pressed, his voice tense as he held her wrist firmly. "Arthur, you're hurting me," Jennifer choked out. Realizing he'd been too rough, Arthur immediately released her. "Jennifer, what have you been hiding?" "Arthur, I..." She slowly turned to face him, her lips trembling slightly. "Maybe that night was a mistake, but... I'm pregnant." "What?" Arthur stood frozen, his eyes locked on her in disbelief. Jennifer hung her head, repeating her apologies. "I'm sorry, Arthur. I wanted to tell you on what was supposed to be our wedding day, but I know now that day will never come." Arthur was completely dumbfounded. He stared at Jennifer, still reeling from the bombshell—she was pregnant. "Please, Arthur—this child is the only part of you I'll have. Let me take the baby and leave. I'll disappear from your life. I won't ask for anything. I'll be good—you'll never see me again, I promise." She reached for his hand, her voice pleading. "I'll take Jenarth and go tonight. I don't want anything from you. I just want you to be happy. I'll never come between you and Chloe again." She took a deep breath, as if steeling herself for a painful decision, and turned to leave once more. Arthur reached out and caught her hand. "Jennifer..." A flicker of triumph crossed Jennifer's eyes as her back was turned. "You can stay," Arthur said. She stood still, then asked softly, "What did you say?" "You can stay. Both you and Jenarth can remain with the Myers family," Arthur repeated. "Haven't you always wanted to be the lady of the house? From now on, you will be. Our engagement stands." "Really, Arthur? You're not joking, are you?" Jennifer turned eagerly and grasped his arm. "It's true," Arthur replied, though he gently disentangled himself from her grip and took a step back, putting a subtle distance between them. Jennifer noticed but didn't react. Instead, she allowed herself to bask in the moment. "Arthur, you really won't send me away?" "I'll marry you. I'll speak with my grandfather, and we'll set the date as soon as possible," Arthur said, straightening his suit jacket. "I've booked this suite for you and Jenarth. Stay here tonight. I'm going to pick up my grandfather and bring him back to the manor." Jennifer watched Arthur walk away with resolve, a flash of irritation crossing her eyes. The lady of the Myers family. The engagement. Arthur had given her both—but he had made it clear he would never give her his love. That was the unspoken message behind his words. Jennifer clenched her fists, her gaze turning cold. So, even before the wedding, Arthur was already declaring that theirs would be a loveless marriage? Fine. She had never expected his love anyway. From the very beginning, her goal had been clear—power. To be the lady of the Myers family, to control Myers Group—all of it would be hers one day.
