He Cheated. I Rose.

Chapter 247 The Price of a Life

Chloe's voice dropped, cold and sharp, filling the room with tension. Carolyn's heart jumped. She put on a fragile, pitiful look. "Chloe, I don't get what you're saying." "Don't get it? That's fine. We can sit. Talk it through. We're still sisters, right?" Chloe walked in slowly, pulled a chair over, and sat down. Seeing Chloe block the door, Carolyn's mind went blank. All she wanted was to get out. The snake had bitten her. She needed that antidote now—or she'd die. "Chloe, a snake bit me. I need a doctor," Carolyn said, grabbing her phone to make a call. "A doctor's too slow. This is the real antidote—made for that snake. Pretty sure it's what you need," Chloe said, rolling the small vial between her fingers. Carolyn stared at the bottle, jaw tight. "Chloe, I've been bitten. Can you give me the antidote?" Chloe looked at her, a light smile on her lips. "So, are you willing to admit it? You went to every length to kill me, and even threw the fan who's been supporting you under the bus?" Carolyn's eyes went wide. She couldn't believe it. Did Chloe already know everything? No way. Emily had just been taken away. Even if she accused her of pulling this off, there was no proof. Chloe was bluffing—trying to scare a confession out of her. She couldn't take the bait. "Chloe, I know you've always hated me because Dad loved me more. But the police already figured it out—Emily did it because she's obsessed with Oralia. And now you're putting this on me? That's just cruel." Carolyn's voice trembled, thick with feigned hurt, her eyes glistening like she might cry. "Everyone saw—I was the first one injured." Chloe's lips curved into a cold smile, her eyes sharp as she stared back. "You even plotted against yourself to pin this on someone else. That takes skill." She tilted her head slightly, tone dripping with sarcasm. "For this, I gotta give you a thumbs-up—seriously. You're a piece of work." Carolyn called a crew member. No answer. Panic rose in her chest as she watched Chloe sitting there, calm. She tried to call Brian next. She'd been bitten. The clock was ticking, and she didn't know how much time she had. She had to get out of here to get help. But Brian's phone was off. Why? Why couldn't she reach anyone? Desperation clawed at her throat, raw and urgent. "Help! Somebody! I've been bitten by a snake!" Carolyn screamed as loud as she could. In that room, a shout like that should have brought people running. But no one came. Had Chloe paid off everyone outside? "Chloe, what do you want?" Carolyn glared, furious."Carolyn, I told you before—however you cause drama is your business. The Lewis family means nothing to me. But you keep showing up, causing trouble and picking fights. That's where you went wrong." Chloe's gaze turned cold. "Coming after me is one thing. Targeting Oralia? Before you did all this, did you ever think about what would happen if it backfired?" Carolyn stood her ground, forcing herself to stay calm. "Chloe, you're a shareholder now. I'm just a small actress. If you want me guilty, I might as well confess to murder, right? If that's how it is, why do we even need police?" Chloe smiled coldly. "If you'd just admitted it, I would've given you the antidote. But you keep digging your own grave. Getting bitten today? That's karma biting back." Hearing that, Carolyn looked at the wound. It had turned bluish-purple. The venom was spreading. She needed the antidote. She had to call her mother. Or Henry. "Chloe, you're basically killing me. You're using the antidote to force me. Whatever you make me say—even if I say it—it's forced." She couldn't even get through to her mom. Seeing that her phone couldn't dial out at all, Carolyn was furious. "Carolyn, once you miss a chance, it's gone. I'm not giving you another." Chloe tapped her phone, and a recording started to play. "Relax. Do what I told you. The snake will go for the target first." "The money's paid. Remember—we never met, and you don't know me." A man's voice and a woman's voice came through. The woman's voice was clearly Carolyn's. Carolyn shivered. How did Chloe have a recording of her call? How was that possible? "He asked for 500 thousand. You talked him down to 100 thousand. You drive a hard bargain." Chloe stopped playing with the vial. "But I'm curious—how much is your life worth?" She glanced at the antidote. "Since you don't want it, I'll hand it over to the police."
