He Cheated. I Rose.

Chapter 246 The Viper's Payback

Emily stood frozen. "Oralia has always been so kind to everyone, and you..." A single tear rolled down Carolyn's cheek. She seemed on the verge of breaking down. "Why would I ever hurt Oralia? I've always admired her." Emily tried to stick up for herself, her voice trembling. But the evidence clearly showed her adding specific spices while cooking. Those spices could indeed attract venomous snakes. But someone else had given them to her. Carolyn had asked her to prepare treats for the crew, so she'd put her heart into it. How could she have known they were dangerous? "Emily, I brought you here because you said you wanted to see Oralia," Carolyn said, her voice shaking. "But now you've hurt her. This is my fault. I'm so sorry, everyone." She bowed deeply to the crowd. When she straightened up, tears streamed down her face.Emily stood motionless, in complete shock. The officers didn't hesitate—they stepped forward and locked handcuffs around her wrists. "Come with us to the station for questioning." Emily tried to struggle, but two officers firmly escorted her away. The mood on set was a bit off—everyone had a gloomy look on their faces. Brian spoke up. "It's handled. Take an hour break, then we resume filming." People slowly returned to their rest areas. Oralia pulled Chloe back to their lounge, still shaken. They were just filming like normal—never thought it'd get dragged into a deliberate assault thing. As Carolyn watched Emily being taken away, a cold gleam flashed in her eyes. She'd expected this outcome. From the moment Emily arrived on set, everyone knew she was Oralia's obsessed fan who'd used Carolyn's name to get close. That obsession had apparently twisted into something dangerous. With this setup, Emily had no way to prove her innocence. Because... Emily had handled all those items herself. Separately, they were harmless. Combined, they became a snake attractant. Add some stimulants to the mix... and the trap was set. Even under investigation, nothing would lead back to Carolyn. She was just the person who brought Emily here. At most, she'd play the guilty friend. Emily had been so easy to manipulate. When Carolyn first hinted she needed help, Emily looked shocked. So Carolyn changed tactics—better to let the fool do everything herself. If both Oralia and Chloe had been taken out, Carolyn would've sent Emily a thank-you card. Too bad. Emily had messed up and dragged herself down instead. What an idiot. Back in her dressing room, Carolyn sat at the vanity."Emily, do my hair," she ordered out of habit. Then the mirror reminded her—Emily was probably at the police station by now. Whether she'd ever come out again depended on her luck. Not that it mattered. Even if Emily claimed she knew nothing, the police had solid evidence. Carolyn hadn't done anything wrong. She'd just asked Emily to make snacks for everyone. How was that a crime? She reached for her vanity case to fix her hair herself. The moment her fingers touched it, something sharp bit her. "Ah!" She snatched her hand back. Fresh, tiny teeth marks dotted her fingertip, a trickle of blood already welling up. From the corner of her eye, she caught a vivid flash of emerald—there, coiled tightly beside her vanity case, was a small green snake. One look, and her eyes blew wide with terror, her breath catching in her throat. It was the exact same species that had attacked Oralia and Chloe earlier.Damn it. How did a snake get in here? Her gaze darted wildly across the vanity, and it landed on a bottle of citrus-scented room spray—the very same one she'd secretly spritzed on Oralia's clothes days before. Why was it here? She was sure she'd thrown it away. That scent—mixed with whatever they'd eaten and drunk earlier—had created a powerful snake attractant, strong enough to draw them in from who knows where. But she hadn't drunk anything today. So why was there a snake now? Staring at the bite on her finger, panic set in. This species was venomous. She needed treatment immediately. She dropped everything and frantically searched through a nearby case. She'd arranged for this snake—of course she'd prepared an antidote. But no matter where she looked, she couldn't find it."Damn it! Where is it?" she snapped. "Looking for this?" A voice came from the doorway. Carolyn's heart jumped. She turned and saw Chloe standing there, holding a small green vial. Seeing Chloe, Carolyn froze. The item in Chloe's hand was her antidote. When had Chloe taken it? And why show up now? "What are you doing here?" Panic surged through Carolyn, but she forced her voice to stay calm. "Carolyn, you're quite the actress. Keep at it and you might make it to the global stage. But what a waste..." Chloe sighed softly, then her eyes turned cold. "You're using that talent for all the wrong things. You think a few cheap tricks give you the right to hurt people? Who gave you that kind of courage?"
