He Cheated. I Rose.

Chapter 245 The Perfect Scapegoat

A flash of panic crossed her face, but she quickly composed herself. "Mr. Merrow, what's going on?" Carolyn stepped forward, forcing calm into her voice. Brian looked at her briefly. "The horses going crazy earlier—it was deliberate. The police are here to investigate." "Deliberate?" Carolyn gasped dramatically, raising a hand to her mouth. "How could that happen? We need to find who did this. My hand still hurts from the fall!" She lifted her sleeve slightly to show her elbow. Though it looked perfectly fine, she insisted it had been aching ever since she fell. Soon, the entire crew gathered on set. Brian explained quickly—someone had spooked the horses intentionally. Since the set was closed to outsiders, the culprit had to be among them."If the person comes forward now, I'll handle this quietly," he said, his voice firm. "If we have to find you ourselves, it'll be different." A wave of murmurs spread through the crowd. No one had expected such darkness behind the chaos. People glanced around, uneasy at the thought the culprit might be standing among them. When no one moved, Brian turned to the nearby officers. "Officers, it's your turn now." After a brief introduction, the police began their work. Surveillance on set was limited—mostly indoor cameras. The incident had happened outside, with no footage available. As officers collected evidence, people exchanged nervous looks. With over a hundred people working on the production, who would do something so cruel? Emily had just finished cleaning up when she heard people whispering about the horses being spooked on purpose. She froze, shocked that someone would do such a thing."We found something," an officer announced after reviewing footage. He showed Brian a still image. "Who is this in the break area?" Brian studied the photo, frowned, then looked toward the corner—directly at Emily. "It's her," he said, pointing right at her. Emily stared, stunned. "Me?" she asked, completely baffled. The officers compared her to the images, confirmed it was a match, and one stepped toward her. "Ms. Emily Tan, you're suspected of intentional harm. Please come with us for questioning." Emily's mind went blank. "I... intentional harm? What did I do?" "We believe you're connected to the horse incident and the snake attack," the officer said, placing photos in front of her. They showed her in the dining area preparing something, and another clip of her in the stables adding substance to the feed.In the footage, her movements appeared quick. "The bees were only part of it. The real cause was an irritant in the feed, plus certain spices in the food that attract venomous snakes. Anyone who had eaten could have been targeted," the officer stated grimly. "Ms. Tan, you totally knew those things attract snakes, but you still went and used them. Did you consider the consequences?" He reached for handcuffs. "I..." Emily stood frozen. The crew stared at her in disbelief. Emily was Carolyn's biggest fan. She wasn't even official staff—just someone who'd followed Carolyn to the set. How could she be behind this? Voices rose as people discussed the shock. Panicking, Emily cried out, "I didn't do it! Those were normal spices. Why would I hurt anyone? Besides... Carolyn was the first one hurt by the horses. Why would I ever harm her?" "Because this was never about Carolyn." Chloe's calm voice cut through the noise. "It was always meant for Oralia." Emily's eyes widened. She stared toward Chloe, her thoughts spinning wildly. "Emily, how could you do this?" Emily turned at the voice, stunned. Carolyn stood behind her, wearing an expression of pure disbelief. In that moment, Emily went completely still. The look in Carolyn's eyes was full of disgust. What... had she done wrong? "Emily, you always said you liked Oralia. How could you hurt her?" Carolyn rushed forward and grabbed her arm, emotions spilling over. "Do you realize intentional harm can land you in prison?"
