Chapter 236 Chloe's Leap

Carolyn's horse suddenly went wild—completely out of control. She pulled hard on the reins, but it was no use. The animal charged forward, ignoring everyone. "Carolyn!" someone shouted. The male lead saw what was happening. Right away, he unbuckled his safety rig. He kicked his horse into a full gallop, racing to head off Carolyn's runaway mount. Oralia noticed too. She quickly unclipped her own gear and rode forward to lend a hand. Carolyn's safety wire was still hanging on her. If she went any further, she would be pulled back by resistance and directly fall off the galloping horse. Falling at such a speed would get her hurt, maybe even killed. Brian's voice cut through the noise. "Stop that horse—now!" Chloe watched it all, her expression tight. The horse was spooked."I can't slow it down!" another voice cried out. It was Oralia. She tugged hard at the reins, but the more she pulled, the faster her own horse ran. Soon both horses were out of control, throwing the set into chaos. Crew members ran toward them, but the animals were too panicked to stop. One staff member got knocked down by a kick. "Bees! There's a swarm of bees!" the male lead yelled. He reined his horse in hard, not daring to go farther. He yanked his horse under control fast. Under him, the animal shook its head wildly as bees buzzed around its face. A quick-thinking crew member grabbed the bridle and swatted the insects away. But further out, Oralia and Carolyn were still in trouble. Their horses kept bolting. The moment Chloe heard Oralia's voice, she didn't stop to think—she just ran. Eugene didn't even see her move until she was already yards ahead.Robert watched, his nerves on edge. Oralia urged her horse forward, fighting to stay on course, trying to get closer to Carolyn. But Carolyn's horse was too fast. The wire had already slipped from the crew's grip. If it snagged, she'd be thrown. "Stop it!" a voice shouted. A staff member threw himself in front of the horse, but it swerved at the last second and charged in a new direction. Carolyn screamed as the horse turned sharply. The motion was too sudden—she lost her balance and was flung sideways. "Carolyn!" Emily dashed forward, reaching out, but she was too late. Her fingers brushed empty air. Gritting her teeth, she threw herself beneath Carolyn, using her own body to break the fall. They hit the ground together, tumbling roughly over the grass before finally coming to a stop. Emily had taken the full impact. Her face was scratched, her arms and ribs aching badly. "Carolyn... are you okay?" Emily asked. Without a second thought for her own pain, she looked at Carolyn with urgent and anxious concern. But Carolyn didn't even glance at her. She pushed herself up, frantic. The crew rushed over, unhooking her wire and checking for injuries. "Where's Oralia? Is she all right?" Carolyn asked, her voice tight with worry. Out on the field, Oralia's horse was still racing toward the edge of the set. If it crossed into the open area, there'd be no stopping it. Just as it looked like the horse would break through, two figures sprinted into view—one right after the other. A moment later, people recognized them: Chloe, with Eugene close behind. Then, to everyone's disbelief, Chloe stepped directly into the path of the oncoming horse. In seconds—five, maybe less—it would slam right into her. A collision at that speed could be fatal. "Move! Get out of the way!" Oralia screamed, yanking the reins, trying to slow the horse. But her struggle only made it run harder. "Get back!" she cried again, her voice breaking. Chloe didn't flinch. Her face was calm. At the very last moment, as the horse thundered toward her, she spun aside, grabbed the reins, and used the momentum to pull herself up—smooth and swift—landing securely behind Oralia. Oralia stared, shocked. Then she felt a strong arm wrap around her waist. "This might hurt. Don't be scared," Chloe's voice came, low and steady. Before Oralia could respond, Chloe rolled them both off the horse. They hit the grassy slope and tumbled together, rolling several times before coming to a stop. They got off the horse safely, and the horse that was running at full speed was now in the grasp of another person. With a sharp whinny, the animal finally stilled. Only then did everyone see clearly—Eugene had brought it to a stop.
