He Cheated. I Rose.
When Oralia opened her eyes, she was in Chloe's arms. She noticed a thin red mark near Chloe's eye—it looked like it had been bleeding. Her throat tightened, and tears rushed out. "You're hurt," she choked out. "I'm fine. What about you?" Chloe's voice was calm, more concerned about Oralia. Oralia didn't answer. Instead, she buried her face against Chloe and sobbed heavily. Watching her, Chloe was reminded of another time, years earlier, when she'd saved Oralia. Back then, the girl had held onto her just like this—clinging tight, refusing to let go. Maybe this time had really scared her. And how were the others doing? "Are you okay?!" "Oralia!"Staff hurried over. The set was quickly secured, and the on-site medics moved in. Someone had called 911 the moment things went wrong. Oralia was unharmed. Chloe had a few scrapes on her face, hands and elbows. Carolyn was fine, too. Emily, who'd pulled her free, had deeper cuts on her hand, but the doctor bandaged them up—nothing serious. Several crew members had been hurt during the rescue; others were just shaken. The medics moved through the group, treating whoever needed help. In the rest area, Oralia guided Chloe to a seat. She stayed so close she might as well have been her shadow. "Are you sure you're okay, baby? Let me help you apply medicine to your hand," Oralia said, her eyes still wet. "Really, I'm fine. Sit down—they've stopped filming for today," Chloe replied, gently pulling her down beside her. After the accident, Edwin had rushed over. Brian took charge, ordering the crew to find out what caused the chaos. "Are you alright?" Carolyn came over, her expression concerned. "We're okay," Oralia said shortly. Noticing Carolyn wasn't hurt, she added politely, "What about you?" "I'm fine. Emily got a few scrapes. The doctor's looking at her now." Carolyn sat nearby. With the incident over, everyone had gathered near a makeshift first-aid tent. Staff moved in and out, checking on people. Oralia gave a soft "Hmm" in reply. Her focus never left Chloe. As long as Chloe was safe, nothing else mattered much. Eugene walked in, his energy still high. After a quick look at Carolyn and Oralia, his eyes settled on Chloe. "Turns out the staff member mixed honey into the horses' feed this morning. Bees picked up the scent and spooked the animals—that's what started it," he explained.A quiet sigh of relief went through the tent. "I don't even know how it happened," a crew member said, his face full of regret. "That honey was for my kid. I forgot to take it home last night. Who'd have thought it'd get mixed into the horse feed?" He followed the police as they continued their inspection, still blaming himself. Chloe watched the officers leave, then turned back. "Thank goodness no one was badly hurt. That was terrifying," Carolyn said, a hand over her heart. She glanced at Oralia. "I'm so glad you two are safe." Hearing that, Oralia grew anxious again. "Baby, please let me take you to the hospital. I won't feel right until a doctor checks you over." "It's nothing," Chloe said gently. "But I'll keep worrying. If you got hurt badly because of me, I'd never forgive myself." Oralia took Chloe's hand and pressed it to her cheek—a tender, intimate gesture.Eugene's eyebrows lifted slightly. Landon's teasing words suddenly echoed in his mind. Chloe looked at Oralia, so lost in guilt, and sighed softly. She wasn't hurt—if she had been, would she be sitting here so calmly? She reached out and ruffled Oralia's hair, comforting her like a child. "It's okay, really. I'm not hurt." Hiss... Chloe's expression shifted. The sound...? Hiss... Oralia was still murmuring apologies—she never should've asked Chloe to visit the set; it was all her fault. She didn't notice what had slipped into the tent behind her. But Chloe heard it. A snake had crept in unseen—its body a bright leaf-green, its head triangular, its scales dotted with specks of bloody red.Its color blended into the grass, so no one had spotted it. Only the sound gave it away. Now the snake was coiled just behind Oralia. As Oralia shifted in her seat, it rose, half its body lifting, ready to strike. "Oralia!" In one swift motion, Chloe pulled Oralia hard against her. Before Oralia could react, she was already in Chloe's arms.
