The Cherished Pet of Nine Beast Husbands

Chapter 478 The Fashionista

"And I'd be even less worthy of her love." After saying that, he stood up quickly and spoke to Calum. "Calum, thank you for your concern. You know that on the battlefield, no matter how dangerous it's been, I've never once backed down. And when it comes to my feelings, I won't back down either." Calum was momentarily speechless. Had he worried for nothing? Lucien didn't look at Calum again. He took a slow, deep breath, then lowered his gaze to the clothes on his body. When he had been fighting Calum earlier, he hadn't paid attention. Only now did he realize that his clothes had been blasted full of holes by their powers. Even a wandering rogue dressed better than this. In the past, he would've gone back like this on purpose, and Emma would definitely feel sorry for him. But now, she'd done more than enough for him. He didn't want her to worry or ache for him anymore. With that thought in mind, Lucien quickly took out a set of clothes he had long prepared from his storage band and changed into them. It was a pitch-black robe, the fabric flowing like liquid night, threaded with faint strands of gold—noble, elegant, and untouchable. He stripped off the ragged, ruined clothes and put on the brand-new black-and-gold robe. The moment he did, his entire presence shifted. The slightly slumped, guilt-ridden figure straightened, supported by the perfectly tailored garment. He stood tall and upright, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, radiating both restraint and grace. The deep black set off the cold pallor of his features, while the flowing gold lightened the shadows in his eyes, adding an air of dignity that could not be challenged. Even Calum was stunned. "You came to fight, but you brought a spare change of clothes?" Lucien adjusted his cuffs and lifted his gaze, glancing at the equally miserable rags hanging off Calum."Of course I did. If I went back looking this torn up, Emma would worry." He paused briefly before adding, "I'm not going to shamelessly pick a fight with you, then run back looking pitiful just to make Emma feel sorry for me." Calum replied, "Are you calling me shameless, then?" Looking at the brand-new, luxurious black robe on Lucien, then comparing it to the rags on his own body, Calum's fists tightened. The veins at his temple twitched again and again. "What's in that sick mind of yours? You came here to fight and even brought a fresh set of clothes?" Was he sick or something? Calum simply couldn't understand it. What normal person would finish a fight and then think about changing clothes? No sane male would think that way. Facing Calum's frustration, Lucien merely stared at him. "As soldiers, we run into unexpected situations all the time. Isn't it normal to keep a few spare outfits in your storage band?" What was so hard to understand about that? Calum stayed silent, unable to refute. Seeing Calum go quiet for a long while, Lucien raised an eyebrow. "Did you not bring a spare change of clothes, Marshal?" That didn't seem like Calum's style. Calum pressed his lips together and lifted his hand, waving it in front of Lucien as he explained, "I left in a hurry today. I forgot to bring my storage band." In truth, he hadn't forgotten it at all. His original plan had been to fight Lucien, then go back covered in injuries. When Emma saw him like that, she'd feel sorry for him. Then, she'd tend to his wounds with her own hands and comfort him… But now, Lucien's words about not shamelessly going back on purpose to look pitiful had completely foiled those plans.Since Lucien had already changed his clothes, if Calum returned looking like this, Emma would see through him immediately. That wouldn't work. Looking at Calum's empty finger, Lucien smiled. "You forgot, huh? That's fine. I've got some clothes here. You can have them." Dream on! Calum hadn't forgotten at all. He simply wanted to go back, looking all pitiful in front of Emma. Lucien took out a set of clothes from his storage band and handed them to Calum. It was an almost brand-new, dull gray combat uniform. In other words, it was ugly as hell. Calum seriously suspected that Lucien was doing this on purpose. There had to be more than two sets of clothes in his ring, yet he had picked the ugliest one for him. But he had no choice. With a dark expression, he took the clothes and changed into them. Once they had both changed, Lucien immediately grabbed Calum's wrist, and in the next instant, the two of them vanished from the place. The moment they returned, both of their lightcores chimed at the same time. It was a voice message from Marcus. Dozens of them, in fact. Something urgent must have happened. Lucien didn't dare waste any time and immediately opened up the messages. Calum did the same, quickly tapping on the device.
