The Cherished Pet of Nine Beast Husbands

Chapter 477 Beating Himself Over It

He remembered how Emma had sent him home. On the way back, his condition had flared up. In order to keep Emma from finding out, he had his subordinates take him straight to Aurelia instead. He even told them to keep it a secret from Emma. After all, once the illness took hold, the only way to survive would be to use Emma's blood to undergo Pyreborn. He did not want to do that. He didn't want Emma to get hurt, not even for him. What happened after that, though? He couldn't remember a thing. How did he end up recovering? And the power he now had to suppress Calum's overwhelming ability… Where did that come from? There was only one answer, and he didn't even need to think hard about it. Even if he couldn't remember clearly, Lucien already knew the truth. Emma had used her own blood to save him. Yet, what had he done in return? He had stolen her from the castle and treated her like that… "Are you okay?" Seeing that Lucien looked distraught, Calum walked over and patted his shoulder. "I've already proven it, and I can't beat you now. Let's stop. If we keep going, we'll tear apart this entire sector." Since he already had his answers, there was no point in continuing the fight. He wanted to hurry home to Emma. Lucien looked up at Calum. The feather-shaped mark between his brows was a deep, blood-red color. He spoke with difficulty. "Tell me… When my condition acted up, was it Emma who exchanged blood with me?" "You remember?" Calum looked at him in surprise, then grinned. "Yeah. You're one lucky guy. Emma was really good to you. When she found out you were in danger, she barely even hesitated before deciding to exchange blood with you. Just watching it made me jealous." After Lucien had given Emma his lightcore, Emma told them he'd forgotten everything about Pyreborn.Calum hadn't expected that one fight with Lucien would actually make him remember. If he'd known, he should've fought him sooner. "So, that's how it was." Lucien closed his eyes in pain, and his tears fell onto the starstone beneath him. Calum's words were like a blade, stabbing his heart over and over again. He could imagine how anxious and terrified Emma must have been when she learned of his condition, and how she made that decision without a moment's hesitation. He had always been so careful, so determined to shield Emma under his wings, to keep her from even the slightest harm, yet in the end, the one who had hurt her the most was him. He had forced her to use her own precious blood to bring back the life that should have already ended. How painful must that have been? How dangerous and agonizing must the blood exchange have been? Just thinking about it made Lucien's heart feel as though an invisible hand had clamped down on it, squeezing so hard he could barely breathe.Emma had done so much for him. After he recovered, what had he done in return? Not only had he failed to truly thank her or cherish her, but he had let his ridiculous jealousy and possessiveness take over. He had kidnapped her and trapped the woman by his side. He was a complete, unforgivable b*stard. "Lucien, don't be so hard on yourself." Seeing how tormented he looked, Calum stepped forward and gave him a heavy slap on the shoulder, trying to snap him out of it. "Since you've remembered, then hurry back to Emma. Why are you putting on such an act? She didn't do all that just so you could sit here and drown in self-pity." Calum's words were blunt and harsh, but he was genuinely concerned. He was afraid Lucien would spiral and crash under the weight of his guilt. Lucien didn't speak. He remembered everything that happened after his condition flared up. The surge of memories and emotions made his shoulders shake violently, his fists clenched so tightly that his knuckles turned white.Watching him like this, Calum only grew more worried. He crouched down so they were eye to eye, and his voice softened. "I know you're hurting right now, and you feel like you've let her down. But what's done is done. The worst thing you can do now is keep punishing yourself here." He paused. "Don't forget, Emma is still waiting for you. She didn't just give you her blood. She almost exposed her biggest secret because of you. She wouldn't want to see you like this. "If you're a real man, then stop running. Pull yourself together and take responsibility for what you should do, instead of hiding in regret like a coward." "I won't run." Lucien slowly lifted his head and looked at Calum. "If I can't find the strength to face what she's done for me, and chose to hide in regret like a coward, I wouldn't be able to respect myself."
