If It's Not Me
The more Janice thought about it, the more she was touched, and the look in her eyes when she gazed at Daniel became increasingly tender. Even Daniel himself didn't expect that the lie he casually blurted would boost Janice's impression of him more. "Thank you. I'm lucky enough to have encountered you," she said with a soft voice. When he heard her, he responded, "I want to thank you, too, for fulfilling my dream of becoming a father." Once again, Daniel clinked glasses with her. However, the clinking sound of the wine glasses this time was more than just wine glasses touching each other. It also signified the fortification of the intangible relationship between the two. Time passed, and the night was gradually getting late as the two chatted. As they enjoyed each other's company, they had unknowingly finished a bottle of red wine between them. Janice's fair and soft cheeks were flushed like a tomato due to her imbibing alcohol, making one wish to take a bite when they saw it.In fact, even her delicate-looking body was discretely clinging to Daniel. At this moment, he could sense the scent and softness coming from his side. "Daniel," Janice murmured. Then, with her words sounding a little unclear, she muttered again, "What would you do if you couldn't save me tonight?" Before the sound of her voice had died away, Daniel narrowed his eyes slightly—a killing intent that seemed to have come from hell burned vigorously in his eyes. Shortly after, he declared solemnly, "I will eliminate the Murphy Family." The moment those words escaped his lips, his body exuded a bone-chilling sense of coldness. Even Janice, who was beside him, reflexively shivered for a moment and sobered up slightly. After she caught what he had said, she pursed her lips even more and stared closely at his icy appearance. The tenderness in her pair of beautiful orbs could almost melt Daniel. Through his firm tone when he said he would deal with the Murphy Family, she could tell that he wasn't lying. She was genuinely moved by Daniel's actions and words at this juncture. Indeed, no woman would be untouched when a man wasn't afraid to take action for her sake, even in the face of a more influential and affluent family. Janice was no exception to the rule. "Thank you." Janice's voice trembled a little. After she thanked him, she abruptly threw her arms around Daniel's neck and buried her face in his neck. Her actions caused Daniel to tense. As he suddenly felt the soft yet warm body in his embrace, he was slightly at a loss as to what to do. This is our first time having such intimate contact! For a moment, Daniel panicked. He didn't know where he should place his hand and didn't know how to push Janice away. Finally, Janice, who was in his arms, suddenly started sobbing in a low voice. "I-I was so scared at that time. I was ready… to end my life. I-If you didn't come for me, I-I really have no… idea what to do. T-Thank you." As he listened to the sniffles of the woman in his arms, the panic on Daniel's face instantly froze, and a hint of distress appeared in his eyes. He sighed inwardly, didn't hesitate to reach out to hug Janice in a warm embrace, patted her back gently, and comforted her softly. "It's okay. I won't let anything happen to you and Denise with me around." Like a dose of cardiotonic, Daniel's charmingly magnetic and hoarse voice was deeply infused into the softness in the deepest part of Janice's heart, giving her an incomparably strong sense of security. And this was exactly what she needed most in the past five years. "Thank you," Janice uttered while sobbing. Then, she strengthened the force of her grip and tightened her arms around Daniel's neck more, pulling their bodies together in a highly intimate manner. The current distance between them was so close that Daniel could feel the warm breath that constantly brushed against the skin of his neck, and it felt like he was both in heaven and hell. Since he was a man full of youthful vigor, he would be lying if he said that he wasn't enamored. Alas, what Janice was about to say next completely doused him like a tub of cold water.
