If It's Not Me

Chapter 64 Visiting Janice

"Not at the moment. I've gotten William to look into it. As you would like to keep your identity hidden, I could only borrow his identity to do this," Phantom reported. When Daniel heard that she didn't ask for his opinion before getting William to help and that she had decided things by herself, he frowned slightly but said nothing in the end. After all, William worked for Daniel's grandfather, and he did not want to get involved with that grandfather of his at all, if possible. Before this, Daniel had used his identity as Hades to deal with William, which was how he managed to get the endorsement contract for Janice. After he gave further instructions, he hung up the call. Just as he was about to leave, his phone rang again. He initially thought that it was from Phantom, who had forgotten to report some things to him. Unexpectedly, it turned out to be a call from Janice. That surprised him. It's almost past midnight. Why is she calling me? After a moment of thought, he picked it up."Hey. What's up?" Janice's hurried voice sounded as soon as Daniel answered the call. "Hey, Daniel. C-Could you come over? I have a feeling that someone is outside." He was stunned when he heard her stammered request. He had arranged for Phantom to protect Janice and her daughter. With Phantom there, it was impossible for anyone to hurt the mother-daughter duo within the borders of Goldshore. But he did not question further and said, "Okay. I'll head there right now." Then, he ended the call and hurried to their neighborhood. Soon, he arrived. Phantom appeared from the darkness, surprised at Daniel's return as she asked, "My lord, what brings you back here?" "Did anything happen?" He asked in a solemn voice. "No. I have been here the whole time. I have also brought another four phantom guards to the team, and they are hiding in different spots. We will report to you immediately if anything seems strange," she replied promptly. "Okay." He nodded, then strode past her and ascended the stairs. When he arrived at the door, he knocked. Soon, he heard the soft sound of footsteps. "Who is it?" Janice asked tensely, seeming anxious. "It's me." As soon as Daniel finished his words, the door immediately opened. The sight of Janice's appearance stunned him. Although she was in her pajamas, her delicate features looked weary, her forehead was dotted with cold sweat, and terror was evident in her eyes. Once she saw him, she finally let out a breath of relief before saying apologetically, "I'm sorry for asking you to come over this late at night. Please come in." Daniel immediately noticed that something was off the moment he entered her room. All the curtains were drawn, covering all the windows. She even covered the TV screen with newspapers. Not only that, everything that could create a reflection in the room had been covered. Daniel understood what was going on instantly. Janice was suffering from PTSD. Simply put, she was traumatized by tonight's incident. Although she did not react much earlier, it still frightened her very much . "Take a seat." After she motioned for him to sit, she served him a glass of water before taking a seat opposite him. "I-I'm really sorry. I wanted to sleep earlier, but I kept hearing knocks on my door. And it sounded like something was broken. I'm a little afraid, so…" Janice trailed off and pursed her lips, not wanting to continue. Daniel became even more certain about his guess when he heard her stammered explanations and comforted her, "It's okay. I'll sleep on the couch tonight. You don't need to worry. I'm here now, and everything will be okay." When she heard this, her gaze toward him became even gentler as she said softly, "I'm sorry. It-It's all because—" "It's okay. Go to bed." Daniel smiled, trying to help Janice relax. However, the latter shook her head. Her cheeks slightly flushed as she said, "I'm not sleepy anymore. Would you like some wine?" Then, she quickly added, "Wine helps me sleep better." After she said that, a gleam flashed across her beautiful eyes while she stared at him expectantly.
