The noise was like a blast of thunder rumbling in their ears, sending everyone in shock. Xavier felt as though a monstrous beast was staring at him. His legs quivered, and he lost what little courage he had left. Finally, he replied stiffly, "I-It's Selena… It's Selena Murphy that sent me." The expression on Janice's face changed when she heard what Xavier said. So, she's the one behind all this? Is this all because I slapped her? Is that the reason she sent someone to kill me?This woman's evil, all right. Then, he had a sudden realization. Tigre was not here, and Daniel was just one man. If Xavier killed Daniel here and now, Tigre would never know who was behind the murder. Besides, as long as he dealt with Janice according to Selena's instructions, he would have to leave Goldshore as soon as he got paid. These were some of the thoughts tumbling around in Xavier's mind. Thus, he grew bold once more as he shouted, "F*ck, he's only one guy. What the hell are you scared of? Tigre isn't here. We just have to kill both of them. Then, we can eat and drink whatever we want. Tigre will never find us!" His words swept through his gang of minions like a breeze. The fear on their faces melted away as their beady eyes were filled with greed. They stared at Daniel and Janice intensely as if the two of them were a pile of gold. The twenty or so thugs stopped retreating. Instead, they gripped their weapons tightly as they began closing in on them. Daniel looked at them expressionlessly as he suddenly spoke, "Look away." Janice froze at his words, but she clenched her teeth as she said, "Daniel, how about we just forget about all this?" She wasn't worried for him. After all, she knew very well what he was capable of. He could deal with these people in his sleep. She was scared that Daniel would once again commit murder to protect her. She didn't want him to go to jail for her sake. Daniel turned to look at her before saying calmly, "I won't let anyone bully you." Boom! Janice trembled at his words. It was as though those were magical words that touched the deepest recesses of her heart. Her heart fluttered as she stared into Daniel's cold and resolute eyes. Her eyes began to redden at his actions. There was a lump in her throat. Yet, she couldn't help but feel a warm sense of security draped over her. Janice might have been the head of a company, but she was still a woman. The past five years had been long and lonely. After she severed her ties with her family, she had no relatives in Goldshore, and she was forced to raise Denise alone. There were many times when she found herself wishing there was someone to help and protect her. She secretly hoped that a prince on a white steed would one day come to her rescue. However, as the days trickled by, she began to wonder if God had forgotten about her. She had resigned herself to her fate, but all this changed when she met Daniel. A fissure began to disturb the surface of her long-frozen heart. Gradually, the crack grew more prominent and deeper. At this moment, the ice that had encased her heart shattered utterly.Janice stared at Daniel with intense focus. She found it difficult to breathe, as if she had just made some major decision. So, she nodded curtly in agreement. "Very well." As those words fell from her lips, she covered Denise's eyes, hunkered down in the car, and closed her eyes tightly. Daniel stared back at the thugs' greedy faces, and his eyes gradually turned bitterly cold. Xavier barked, "Chop him up! Then drag that chick out of the car and get rid of her. We'll soon be rich!" His instructions were like a heady potion. All twenty of his minions grew more excited at his orders. Finally, somebody's voice rang across the scene, "Get him!" The thugs immediately brandished their weapons as they lunged forward. Daniel did not move a muscle from the spot he was standing. The punks were closing in; they swung their weapons wildly as they were about to smash into him.The cruel grin on Xavier's face stretched wider at the sight. So what if you have Tigre's protection? I'll skip town once I kill you. Nobody will be able to find me then! Suddenly, a flash of cold light appeared out of thin air.
