If It's Not Me

Chapter 43 You Really Believe In Me?

Fern lifted her head after hearing Daniel's sudden reply. "You really believe in my words?" "Yes." He nodded. His gaze darkened as he thought about what Fern had just told him. As the Tenth General of Freyna, he could easily distinguish whether she was lying. From her detailed explanation, he knew that what she said was true, and he really cared about the incident that happened to the siblings. The thought of an assassin organization flashed through his mind as he could relate to the incident when the brother made a call to the sister, which was akin to the strategy used by such organizations to train assassins! Throughout the past ten years, when he was at war, he had destroyed numerous assassin organizations. Most of the assassins were orphans who were trained from a young age. They were first brainwashed before being hypnotized into killing people, and from there, they were slowly transformed into cold-blooded killing machines. If he guessed it correctly, the sister was most probably turned into an assassin, which was why her whereabouts were unknown. However, he never expected such secret organizations to officially exist within Goldshore. He was boiling with rage at the thought of it since it was his obligation as a soldier to protect his country and its people. How could he not be mad when someone was kidnapping children and turning them into assassins within his motherland right under his eyes? Initially, he purposely let Fern steal his wallet just to get away from Isa and never expected to find out about these. Evelyn, did you arrange for me to find out about these to save these children? The thought of her made his heart ache. After taking a deep breath to calm himself down, he said, "Don't worry, I'll take care of this." Fern was stunned when she heard his words, and the next moment, tears started welling up in her eyes. "Thank you, thank you for believing in me. Y-You are the only one besides Ms. Black who believed in me." She whimpered. In the past, she had visited the police station and other departments but was treated like a lunatic and kicked out, as none of them believed in her words. She got desperate, seeing that the children would soon be brought away by the staff from the Eaglet Program. Thus, she had no choice but to put her last hope on Daniel. It was out of her expectation that he would believe in her. She broke into tears as she recalled having been wronged in the past. Seeing that, Nancy, who was standing at the side, went up to hug her and gently caressed her head. After a while, Fern pushed Nancy away and took out the wallet from a hidden pocket within her coat and passed it to Daniel. "Thank you for believing in me. I'll return this wallet to you, and I'm sorry for stealing it. Regardless of how this might turn out, I'll still be grateful that you agreed to help me." As Daniel looked at how earnest she was, he didn't accept the wallet but instead said, "You can keep this wallet as proof. There's no pin required for the card in it, so you can use it to buy anything for your friends in the meantime." "This wouldn't do!" she exclaimed because it was out of her expectation that he refused to take his wallet. "You can return it to me once I've resolved the matter." Daniel shook his head and was adamant about his decision. Besides, it was his promise to Evelyn, as he had a feeling that she got Fern to bump into him and sought his help through Fern. Evelyn, I'll rescue these children. He promised her. Just then, the door was flung open, and a huge figure was seen walking in.
