If It's Not Me

Chapter 41 Another Favor

In fact, Daniel could have just roughened up those thugs by himself if he had wanted to take the matter into his hands. However, for the sake of the orphanage, he had to think of a long-term solution that could keep those thugs away from the orphanage when he was away. Therefore, he called Tigre and decided to settle the issue with his help, hoping to scare Xavier, as well as the other thugs, off with the latter's reputation. While he wasn't doing that for Fern, he was doing that for the children who were about the same age as Denise. As Xavier could sense the indifferent aura from Daniel, he was completely embarrassed and humbled, his face darkened and covered in sweat. The next second, Tigre angrily turned his attention to Xavier, as if he was an angry beast that was about to kill its prey at any moment. Frightened by Tigre's menacing reaction, Xavier nearly went weak in his knees as he struggled to even say a single word. "So, it's you who messed with Mr. Hardon?!" Tigre asked coldly, his voice sounding as if he was from hell himself. When Xavier heard Tigre's question, he was tongue-tied, his voice shaking. "M-Mr. Tigre, I… I didn't know that he was one of your men." Xavier looked like he was about to cry while explaining himself. Noticing the frightening expressions from those men behind Tigre, he was scared that he would die at their hands there and then. Upon glaring at Xavier coldly, Tigre glimpsed Daniel. "Take care of this, would you?" Daniel turned around and headed back to the orphanage, whereupon he knocked on the wooden door. While Nancy opened the door fearfully, Tigre instantly understood Daniel's instruction and nonchalantly said, "Take them." "No, Mr. Tigre! Please hear me out." Xavier begged for mercy tearfully but to no avail as Tigre proceeded to have him and his men captured. Upon entering the orphanage, Daniel stepped forward just as Nancy and Fern stepped back fearfully. The next moment, the man smiled and asked, "Now that the issue has been addressed, can I have my wallet back?" Seeing the smile on Daniel's face, the two ladies froze because they couldn't believe Daniel was the same person they saw out there. "Y-Yes, of course." Nancy nodded repeatedly and nudged Fern with her elbow before she looked back at the man with a smile. "Thank you so much for helping us, Sir. If it hadn't been for you, we wouldn't have known what to do." "Don't mention it. It's no big deal," Daniel replied. While Fern stood still with her fists clenched in a preoccupied manner, Nancy secretly whispered to the former and said, "Come on, what are you waiting for? Give him back his wallet." "If you do me one more favor, I'll give you back your wallet," Fern said, stepping forward as she gritted her teeth. "Fern!" Nancy interrupted Fern and turned to Daniel. "I'm sorry, Mr. Hardon. She is just messing around. I'll make her return the wallet to you right away." She then began to frisk Fern but failed to find Daniel's wallet. "I hid the wallet." Fern clenched her jaw, staring at Daniel even though she was scared of him. Having hidden the man's wallet, she was trying to force him into helping her, or she wouldn't return his wallet. "Are you threatening me?" Daniel stared at Fern with his eyes wide open. Sensing Daniel's eerily cold aura, Nancy patted Fern hard and reprimanded her. "Are you out of your mind, girl?! Give him back his wallet!" Nevertheless, Fern ignored Nancy and gazed at Daniel, breathing heavily and nervously. "There is a picture in that wallet."
