If It's Not Me
"I knew you were here! Open the gate, or I'm going to tear it down like I just said!" Xavier's eyes were filled with anger the moment he saw Daniel. With the metal pipe in his hand, he pointed it at Daniel and bellowed like a madman. At the same time, his henchmen right behind him also began to react with an uproar, filling the atmosphere with a loud metal clunking sound as they hit the gate harder and harder. On the other hand, Daniel only stood behind the gate and stared at them in an emotionless manner, his soulless eyes making him seem as if he couldn't feel anything. "What's wrong? Are you scared?" Xavier began to mock Daniel arrogantly when he didn't see him respond. In the meantime, Fern and Nancy, who were hiding in the orphanage, were peeking through the gap in the door, but both of them appeared to react differently to the intense situation that was going on outside. Worried, Nancy asked, "Fern, are you sure he can handle it?" "Who cares? He volunteered to go out there. I didn't force him to do that." Fern seemed unconcerned about Daniel's safety, as if she had completely forgotten that she had just made a deal with him to return his wallet should he manage to take care of the intense situation out there. "This is all your fault. You stole that man's money, and now you're making him take care of your mess. What am I supposed to do with you, Fern?" Nancy helplessly expressed her frustration toward Fern's immature actions. "He is not a good guy, Ms. Black. He is Daniel Hardon, the criminal who appeared on the news!" Fern tried to explain herself. When Nancy heard that, she knitted her eyebrows and shifted her eyes to Daniel. The next second, she looked back at Fern and berated her. "So what? That was a long time ago. Let me tell you something, girl! You need to show some manners and stop calling him a criminal!" "Fine." Fern eventually grew tired of arguing with Nancy, thinking she was just finding fault with her for no good reason. At that moment, the thugs continued to press on with their intimidation while Daniel stood there and showed no signs of opening the gate or talking to them. Instead, he reached for his phone a few moments later and made a call. "Hello, where are you?" His voice sounded calm. Meanwhile, Xavier and his men, who had just heard what Daniel said over the phone, laughed out loud sarcastically. Then, with a haughty expression on his face, Xavier said, "Now, you're calling for help. It looks like somebody is scared now! Let me tell you something. For the mistake you just made by beating me up, I'm going to make sure you're lying flat when everything ends, no matter who is coming to save you!" The man chuckled coldly. "Five minutes. Northside Orphanage." Daniel hung up the call as soon as he finished his words. "Who do you think is going to fall for your bluff?! You don't scare me. You just said five minutes, didn't you? Alright then, I'm going to give you exactly five minutes." Xavier grunted coldly and added, "If your help doesn't arrive by then, I'm going to level this goddamn orphanage!" As Daniel continued to remain silent, Fern began to find him more and more unreliable. She then said, "Fine, Ms. Black. I think I should get out of here now because this guy doesn't seem like he can take care of the situation." "No way!" Nancy insisted. "What is he going to do if you're gone? That man is only in danger because of you. Now, distract those thugs and lure them away from the back door. You're fast, aren't you? So, I'm sure you have no trouble losing them." "Why should I save him, Ms. Black?" Fern was unwilling to step in. "Are you going to help him or not?!" Nancy glared at Fern with her eyes wide open. Intimidated by Nancy, Fern reluctantly shrugged her shoulders and responded, "Alright. Alright, I'll do it." Despite her reply, she started to have a bad impression of Daniel, thinking he was just a wise guy who was trying to act tough. I thought he knew what he was doing, but guess what? I'm still expected to give him a hand. What a loser! Just when Fern was about to walk away, she suddenly heard a loud honk approaching them closer and closer from a distance.
