Mr. Mysterious's Spontaneous Bride
Ivy waited until Mr. Luke came to pick up Shawn before setting out for Morningside Café. However, what she didn't know was that Shawn had instructed his assistant to drive there in advance. "Has Sanders wait there?" "Yes." His assistant already knew what to do and added, "Let Sanders serve as the executive assistant to Mrs. Tate from now on." "Agreed." Shawn accepted his suggestion, and they soon arrived at the café. This time, unlike before, he went straight to the private room upstairs. His assistant had chosen a spot that provided a clear view of the entire first floor, so when Ivy arrived, he saw Sanders raising his head to make eye contact with her. Seeing that Sanders was impeccably dressed in a suit but had a slightly rascally look on his face, Ivy felt something was amiss. After eating for a while, she approached Sanders. "Are you Mr. Cato Alter?" "Miss, do you have business with our President?" Sanders responded naturally, as he had received instructions earlier. "Even the DT staff don't know our President's whereabouts. How did you find out? Who told you?" Seeing that the other person was Cato Alter's subordinate, Ivy quickly clarified, "Please don't misunderstand. I'm Dr. Ivy Jones from County Clinic. I've heard that CEO Alter likes to come here, so I came to try my luck." "I see, Dr. Jones." Sanders was quick to change his tone and said, "Our President is upstairs in a meeting. What can I do for you?" Ivy recounted everything that had happened today and added, "I hope to explain the situation to President before the news comes out. I hope he won't vent his anger on Director Malcom and other colleagues at County Clinic." "Your request is noted. Please wait, and I'll go ask him." Sanders stood up and went upstairs. He entered the private room and returned in less than five minutes. "Ms. Jones, President Alter said he won't blame anyone for this matter." Ivy suddenly raised her head. "Can I..." "Unless necessary, he hates meeting people," Sanders quickly extinguished Ivy's intention to meet him and added, "You'd better get back. He said you should focus on how to maximize the benefits of our cooperation instead of worrying about how the news will be reported. He is an investor, and he values profit." At this point, Sanders cast a satisfied look upstairs, as if seeking approval from Shawn's assistant. How was that? I performed well, didn't I? "I understand." Ivy realized that she wouldn't be able to meet Cato Alter tonight and decided not to dwell on it. She quietly turned to leave. Once he was sure she had left, Shawn's assistant emerged from the private room and nodded at Sanders. "Mr. Tate, shall I take you back?" His assistant suggested. "I had already left earlier. If my wife returns and doesn't find me at home, she might get suspicious." Thinking about this, Shawn's assistant immediately drove Shawn back to their house. "Seems like Mrs. Tate hasn't returned yet," his assistant observed the lights upstairs, and a weight lifted from his heart. After his assistant had dropped Shawn at their house, he left. A little while later, Ivy returned. "Why aren't you asleep?" Ivy was surprised to see Shawn sitting in the living room. "It's very late; you should get some rest." Shawn didn't answer directly but asked, "Is the matter resolved?" "It's not completely resolved, but it's under control," Ivy replied. She hadn't received a direct response from Cato Alter, but based on what his assistant had said, it seemed that regardless of how the news would be reported the next day, DT Investments would not hold County Clinic accountable. "Why do you say that?" Shawn inquired. Ivy shrugged and gently pushed Shawn toward the bedroom. "In any case, your surgery won't be affected. Get some sleep; I'll freshen up and then return to work. I need to finalize your surgical plan as soon as possible!" She headed to the kitchen and took out a packet of instant noodles. Shawn frowned as he checked the time. He felt that Ivy was somewhat overly enthusiastic about her work. It was already 1 a.m, and she still didn't want to sleep? No wonder she's so frail; she's eating instant noodles. With this in mind, Shawn said in a deep voice, "It's already 1 a.m. If you're not sleepy yet, I can stay up with you." Ivy paused and unconsciously blurted out, "No, it's okay. I'm not tired." Shawn hadn’t met women who were more stubborn than him before he married Ivy. He offered her two options, "Either we work together or we sleep together. You choose." Ivy was momentarily at a loss for words. “You!” Ivy started to say something, but her words faded away as she met Shawn's eyes. It was the first time she had seen her flash-married husband being so assertive, and it left her feeling a little uneasy. She wanted to argue with him but couldn't find the mood. Ultimately, he was doing it for her. If the roles were reversed, she would do the same for him. With a deep sigh, Ivy said, "Then go to sleep. You go in first, and I'll follow in a bit." After she said this, she put the instant noodles down, walked to the bathroom, and started freshening up. After finishing her preparations, Ivy returned to the bedroom. There was only a faint, warm light, and Shawn was already lying on the bed, breathing evenly, as though he had entered the realm of dreams. Ivy lay down beside him, trying to fall asleep but couldn't. She was preoccupied with the events of the day, and no matter how much she tossed and turned, sleep eluded her. Just as she was about to attempt sleep for the hundredth time, her body suddenly felt lighter, and she found herself wrapped in Shawn's embrace. His chest was warm and comforting, and it made her drowsy. "Go to sleep," Shawn said in a deep, hoarse voice, though he was feeling quite helpless inside. He had been the one to keep others awake with his presence, and this was the first time he had been disturbed by someone else. However, it was Ivy, and she was his wife. He couldn't be angry with her. "Okay," Ivy yawned. Wrapped in the warmth of his embrace, she dozed off. .... Ivy was awakened by her alarm clock. She sat up abruptly in bed and checked her phone. To her shock, it was already 10 a.m."Oh no!" Ivy exclaimed, and in her haste, she checked her phone for missed calls. She had over a hundred missed calls, all from colleagues at County Clinic. It seemed that the news had already had a very negative impact, and she anticipated that Director Malcom was about to give her a hard time. Ivy knew she couldn't avoid this, so she sat down on the bed, took a few minutes to calm her racing thoughts, and then made the call to Director Malcom. "Dr. Jones, hahaha..." Director Malcom's laughter was deafening, and Ivy instinctively moved her phone a little farther from her ear. "Director, I'm on my way back to the clinic to handle the situation," Ivy guessed that there was a crowd gathered at the clinic, ready to watch the spectacle, and waiting to see her family's misfortunes exposed. Regardless of the circumstances, she had to appease Director Malcom and later investigate DT Investments' stance on the matter. "Dr. Jones, don't rush. Have a good rest," Director Malcom held back Ivy from bolting out of the room, "The news is out, and it's all praise for our clinic. There's also great admiration for your selflessness, and of course, there's sympathy for you. Dr. Jones, you're a celebrity now. You're the star doctor of County Clinic! I have to thank you. With you as our living advertisement, we'll never lack staff in the future, and our resources will get better and better! Dr. Jones, you're the fortune of our County Clinic." Director Malcom praised her excitedly, but Ivy felt like she was in a dream. During the lull in Director Malcom's speech, Ivy swiped through the trending topics online. It was full of praise for her, with just a few negative comments about her family's behavior. She hadn't expected the situation to unfold in such a dramatic fashion. "DT Investment must have been behind this. With the capabilities of someone like Cato Alter, he could easily arrange it. Thinking this, Ivy decided not to dwell on it. She resolved to dedicate herself even more to her cooperation with DT Investment and planned to send Cato Alter a thank-you email later. She also thought that perhaps someday she could thank him in person. Just as she was contemplating this, she received a message from Shawn: "Mom went to visit relatives in our hometown early this morning. She left you some foodson the table; remember to eat them." The mention of foods triggered hunger in Ivy's stomach, and she realized she was indeed quite hungry. She quickly responded with a message: "Okay. I'm sorry for keeping you up last night and causing you to lose sleep." Without a word, Shawn responded by tapping on the empty coffee cups that stood in front of his office desk. ***
