Mr. Mysterious's Spontaneous Bride

Chapter 21 Questioning Shawn

The manager smiled and instructed the staff behind to set the wine glasses and fine wine on the table. "Mr. Tate also said that you should all have a great time. Your class reunion tonight is on the house!" Ivy was dumbfounded. "Which Mr. Tate is it?" a curious classmate asked the hotel manager. The manager who was actually not aware of who Mr. Tate was, was following instructions from Luke, the executive assistant of Cato Alter. So it was clear that Mr. Tate held a significant position. Thinking of this, the manager smiled and explained, "He's Mr. Tate from DT Investment Group." The atmosphere in the private room suddenly became ambiguous, and people exchanged glances, speculating that Ivy had struck it lucky and married into a wealthy family. "Ivy, this is incredible. You're a rich lady now! Aren't you being too low-key?" one classmate exclaimed in surprise. "Ivy was very low-key in college. She didn't even want to vie for the title of campus beauty. If she were more high-profile, Tanya would have had to concede the title of campus beauty to her," another classmate reminisced. "Ivy, the Garden Hotel is under DT Investment Group. Is it possible that your husband holds an important position within the group?" someone speculated. Classmates began guessing the identity and background of this Mr. Tate, and even Lilith couldn't help but ask Ivy, "Ivy, the manager seemed so servile. The way he referred to Mr. Tate indicates that he's quite influential. Your husband is..." Ivy furrowed her brows and couldn't help reviewing the details of her time with Shawn, but she couldn't find any connections to a wealthy family. Could it be that Shawn, to bolster her image, was pretending to be wealthy at this event? Taking a deep breath, Ivy decided that the next time she saw him, she would criticize him for this pretentious behavior. So, she pointed at Kevin and said, "Mr. Alter from the Alter Group will be footing the bill tonight. Let's not compete for the honor with him. So, tonight's dinner will be on Mr. Alter." "Um...," the manager glanced at Kevin awkwardly. Kevin cleared his throat, saying, "Put it on my tab.""Okay," the manager replied and left. Ivy and Lilith had already left. By the time Kevin came after them, there was no trace of Ivy. "Kevin..." Tanya panted and followed him. She noticed Kevin was lost in thought, looking in the direction where they had disappeared, and she felt a surge of jealousy. She put on an appearance of being understanding, "Kevin, now that you've returned, there will be plenty of opportunities to see her in the future. There's no rush for now." Kevin, upon hearing her, thought it made sense. Three years ago, he was still young and dared not challenge his father's authority, so he had agreed to Ivy's proposal to break up. Now that he was returning after completing his studies and about to take over the Alter Group, he believed there were ample opportunities to mend his relationship with Ivy. Thinking this, he regained his confidence. Kevin didn't care whether Ivy had gotten married or the background of her partner, he was convinced that as long as he pursued her again, she would come back. ‘What's a high-ranking executive compared to me, the heir of Alter Group?’ he thought confidently. He was determined to win Ivy back and make amends for the suffering she had endured for him over the past three years. "Kevin, my dad is involved in a project at a small hospital with high potential. Even experts in the field, including Professor Smith, think it has a bright future." As Kevin was contemplating how to approach Ivy again, Tanya's words caught his attention. His eyes lit up. Ivy was working at a clinic now, right? So, he would arrange for Alter Group to cooperate with the clinic. This way, he could maintain a working relationship with Ivy and continue building their relationship. "Yes!" he nodded excitedly. "You're absolutely right. We should cooperate. This is a great opportunity." "Kevin, you agree with what I said, right?" Tanya's face beamed with joy. Before she came, her father had instructed her to bring up this topic with Kevin, and she was worried he might reject it. She didn't expect Kevin to agree so readily. ‘Did he find out that Ivy got married and realized there's no hope for them to get back together, so he decided to test my reaction?’ Tanya couldn't help but think. She started to fantasize about her future life as a member of the Alter family, a wealthy heiress.Just when she was lost in her daydreams, Kevin suddenly spoke up, "Tanya, I have an urgent matter to attend to. I'll leave first, and we can talk later." He summoned the Alter family's driver and left without waiting for Tanya to respond. Back in her office, Ivy opened her chat box and noticed that Kevin had sent her numerous friend requests. Without much thought, she ignored them. She then called Shawn. Shawn had just finished a dinner at St. Patrick’s Hotel and was sitting in the chauffeured car, feeling a bit tipsy. He looked at Ivy's incoming call and suddenly felt light and happy all over. Was she calling to thank him? With such thoughts in mind, he answered Ivy's call. "Hello," his voice was a bit muffled, but his expression softened. "Shawn, why did you pay for me?" Ivy began her call by questioning him. "What?" Shawn raised his eyebrows, and her tone was accusatory. "I just wanted your classmates to think that you're doing well." At this moment, he regretted keeping his identity as the founder of DT Investment Group a secret and portraying himself as an ordinary worker. He wanted to create the image of a white-collar worker to hide his wealth and fame. Ivy paused for a moment, understanding his intention was for her well-being. She softened her tone and explained, "I don't have a close relationship with those classmates, except for my best friend and Professor Smith. They are all just acquaintances, and there's no need to spend our hard-earned money to impress them. I don't rely on them. We need to save our money for our daily life, as well as buy your medication, supplements for your leg, and regular rehabilitation sessions for your leg," she continued. Listening to Ivy earnestly planning for their future, Shawn's eyes sparkled with a hint of emotion, and a faint smile graced his lips. "Alright, I promise you, I won't let this happen again in the future." "Even if we have to entertain, we can't pretend to be something we're not," Ivy added firmly. Shawn's throat tightened once more. Why would he pretend to be something he's not? "I didn't..." he began, but Ivy interrupted him. "Then why did you act like a high-ranking hotel executive and show off, making them think I married into a wealthy family and became a rich housewife?" Ivy asked helplessly.***
