Mr. Mysterious's Spontaneous Bride

Chapter 12 Packing

Brown leather shoes came into view first, but the familiar face left Ivy and Lilith in disbelief. "Isn't that Jasson Brown, the one who came to my clinic last night?" Ivy asked in surprise. "Hello, everyone, I am Jasson Brown, Mr. Cato Alter's acting attorney," he said earnestly on TV, wiggling the index finger that was wrapped like a mummy. "Today, I will fully represent Mr. Cato Alter in attending the Alter Group's annual shareholder meeting and execute his resolutions." "How boring," Lilith sneered. "Cato Alter must be very ugly, or he wouldn't be afraid to show himself." Ivy, however, understood Cato Alter's actions. If she were in his place, she would have taken these abnormal measures to protect herself after suffering so much harm. "Your Smith family also has significant business in the city, so you'll have the opportunity to meet him sooner or later," she comforted Lilith softly as they walked out of the clinic. When they got into the car, Ivy's college mentor, Professor Smith, called. After a few pleasantries, Professor Smith asked Ivy, "Will you be coming to the university alumni gathering tomorrow night?" Ivy had initially considered declining, but Professor Smith was her benefactor, and she had no standing or reason to refuse, so she agreed. "I'm sure it's Kevin! He wanted me to invite you last night, and after I refused, he shamelessly approached Professor Smith!" Lilith slammed her fist into the steering wheel and cursed Kevin through gritted teeth. "Why didn't I notice how selfish he was before? He doesn't care about your feelings at all!" Ivy was Professor Smith's outstanding student, and she had been his primary focus during her college years. "If you don't want to go, you don't have to. We can invite Professor Smith for dinner another day to make amends," she said. Ivy lifted her hand, showing the ring on her finger, and comforted Lilith with a smile. "I let go of my feelings for him a long time ago, from the moment I initiated the breakup. It's okay." Seeing her calm demeanor, Lilith fell silent for a moment before compromising, "Well, then I'll go with you, and I'll protect you." "Great." After agreeing on a meeting time with Lilith for the following day, Ivy returned to her original home to pack her things for the move. When she arrived, she found that Shawn was already there, but due to his leg injury, he was responsible for handling lighter items. When Ivy saw that Mr. Luke had also come, she felt apologetic and said, "I'm truly sorry for bothering you with the move." "Please, just call me Luke, Mrs. Tate," the personal assistant said with an overwhelmed expression. "Mr. Tate is a consultant hired by DT Investment, and I was sent by the company to assist him, both in work and daily life." "Consultant?" Ivy glanced sideways at Shawn, puzzled. No wonder Grandma Winston said he had a part-time job at DT Investment. Being a consultant indeed wouldn't require daily reporting to the office. "Yes, an investment consultant. I occasionally attend meetings at the company to provide advice on investment projects," Shawn replied casually. Ivy simply responded with a nod and didn't ask any more questions. "Tomorrow night, I'm going to attend a college classmate gathering at the Garden Hotel..." Ivy hadn't initially planned to mention it, but after giving it some thought and realizing that they were now married, she decided it was necessary to inform him for mutual comfort. "I'll be back late." Upon hearing this, Shawn's eyes briefly revealed a trace of unnoticeable surprise, which disappeared within a few seconds. "Alright." "Ivy, you and Shawn should pack up your things from your room, and Luke will assist outside," Mrs. Jones directed as she noticed the three of them standing around. "Yes," Ivy replied before turning and leading Shawn into her room. She wasn't one to spend much time at home, mainly due to her constant white coat-wearing work attire. As a result, she had very few casual outfits, most of which consisted of simple plaid shirts and jeans. However, she had numerous medical books and tools in her room. When Shawn entered, he momentarily believed he had walked into a medical museum. He casually picked up a book and was about to flip through it when Ivy instructed him, "Shawn, you should let Luke pack up the things in the closet." Shawn paused and his expression darkened. The closet contained items that were not only clothing but also personal belongings. Handing them over to a stranger, even one working as a personal assistant, seemed to neglect his feelings as her husband. Seeing him remain stationary for an extended period, Ivy assumed he was uncomfortable and asked, "What's wrong?" Upon hearing her, Shawn's face darkened even further. "Nothing," he replied in a deep voice. He maneuvered his wheelchair to the closet, exhibiting some anger. Then, he roughly opened the closet door. A life-sized skeleton suddenly sprang out of the closet and fell heavily into Shawn's arms. "Uh!" Even though Shawn had witnessed all sorts of grand scenarios, he was still startled. What kind of person puts a life-sized skeleton in a closet? "Are you okay?" Worried that he might be hurt, Ivy rushed over to check. "I'm sorry, I like to study these things at home, especially because I'm an orthopedic surgeon. I have to keep up with the latest knowledge." Seeing that he was unharmed, she apologized with a sheepish smile. Even for a medical professional like Shawn, it was rather unexpected to find a large skeleton in a closet. He couldn't help but think, "What kind of thought process does this woman have?" No one stores a full-sized skeleton in their closet, right? "Where are your clothes?" he asked. "Here," Ivy pointed to a few pieces of clothing on a low table. Seeing Shawn's darkening expression, she explained with a chuckle, "I usually spend my time at the clinic, so I rarely get to wear my own clothes. I have a lot of casual clothes, but it's more of a burden." ***
