Pampered By Billionaires After Betrayal
Meggie seemed especially cheerful today, constantly asking Bella to go instruct the kitchen to prepare Emily’s favorite dishes. "Oh, and make sure they prepare a pot of duck soup, with ginseng, astragalus, and goji berries. It's great for women, both nourishing and beautifying," Meggie said, examining Emily's face closely, looking a little sad. "Why have you lost weight again?" Emily kept her gentle smile, comforting her, "I was dieting." "No more dieting, young lady," Meggie scolded gently. "The most important thing is to be healthy. Beauty is only skin deep, but your health is what truly matters. Look, you’ve lost weight and you look different, but I can still recognize you because your heart has always been pure and warm. Don’t think I’m just an old fool." Bella hesitated, but in the end, she said nothing and quickly went downstairs to instruct the kitchen. Half an hour later, a large table full of dishes was brought up. Bella was getting old, so the food was now being delivered by several young maids. Emily helped carry some dishes to the table, but the maids quickly waved her off, insisting they could handle it. Vincent took Emily's hand in his, holding it tightly, "Let them handle it. You need to rest." Emily shook her head, "I’m not tired." "How could you not be tired? You worked all day. I heard from Ken that you solved all the previous issues that were pending. You must have spent a lot of time working on them in private, right?" Vincent asked. Emily looked away, her tone serious, "This is my job. Of course, I’m going to give it my all. Once the project is over, I will..." "Emily, do you still plan on leaving?" Vincent asked softly. "I studied in the UK, and I work there. Of course, I need to go back." "I’m not trying to stop you. I thought about it, and you’re right; you have the right to choose your own life. I can't force you to stay. I just want to ask if you could stay a bit longer, for Meggie's sake. Her health isn't good." Seeing Emily seemed to have brightened Meggie's spirits—her complexion looked better, her energy had clearly improved. Emily bit her lip, unsure how to respond. "I’m the one who wronged you," Vincent continued. "You can punish me however you want, but Meggie misses you..." Not far away, Meggie saw them still standing there and quickly waved her hand, "What are you two doing over there? Come on, it’s time to eat!" Vincent gently ushered her forward, "Let's go. Let's have dinner." The maids tidied up and quietly left the room, while Bella stayed to help take care of Meggie. Emily took the bowl from Bella's hands, "I’ll do it." "But..." Bella glanced at Vincent, as if seeking his approval. When Vincent gave her a slight nod, Bella finally handed over the utensils, "Meggie's stomach has been sensitive lately. She shouldn't eat anything raw or too spicy, and given her high blood pressure, she should have as little meat as possible." "I know," Emily replied softly. "Don't worry, I’ve got it." Meggie smiled warmly, "Yes, our Emily knows all about nutrition. Oh, Dylan came by last night with a recipe Emily gave him, and I’ve been drinking that tea since this morning—it made me feel so much better! Emily is really something." Vincent raised an eyebrow, looking at her, "You gave that to Dylan?" "Yes," Emily nodded. "I gave it to Steven to pass on to Dylan. I didn’t think he’d bring it over so quickly." "Dylan didn’t tell me," Vincent smiled lightly. "Seems like Dylan's learning to keep secrets now." Emily stayed silent. It wasn't hard to guess why Dylan had done it. He probably feared that if Vincent knew she’d written the recipe, it might upset him. Emily had chosen to give the recipe to Vincent’s assistant's assistant rather than hand it to him herself. So Dylan had handled it quietly. "Don’t be hard on him. Dylan's been loyal to you for so many years. His abilities and dedication are unmatched." Vincent nodded, "I know." Meggie smiled brightly, "Bella, look at them. Aren’t they wonderful together? So sweet, speaking so gently to one another. By the way, how about we arrange a proper wedding for you two? We never got the chance before, and I really want to see Emily in a wedding dress. You’d be the most beautiful bride in the world." Emily stiffened.Vincent spoke on her behalf, "No rush, Grandma. Emily has been very busy lately." "You two may not be in a rush, but I am," Meggie insisted, "I don’t know how much time I have left. I don't know if I’ll get to see Emily in her dress..." Her words struck Emily at her most vulnerable spot. Looking at this kind, loving elderly woman, faced with her final wish, Emily found it nearly impossible to refuse. But there was also Jackson... "Emily, have some duck soup," Meggie said, "Vincent, you have some too. You’ve been recovering for so long, but you haven't taken proper care of yourself. Your voice is still hoarse." Dinner lasted for nearly two hours. Meggie kept serving food onto Emily's plate until it piled up into a small mountain. Emily couldn't bear to refuse her kind gesture and ended up eating until she felt like her stomach might burst. Meggie, however, was old, and the extended dinner left her exhausted. Emily and Vincent helped her back to her room to rest. Meggie held Emily's hand, gently pleading, "Will you visit me often? And about the wedding—please choose a date soon. The sooner, the better. I know my own body, and I really don’t have much time left. This is my only wish." Meggie’s eyes stayed locked on her, filled with hope, refusing to let go until Emily gave an answer. "...Alright," Emily finally said. Meggie let out a sigh of relief, "Thank you." Bella escorted them out, quiet all the way, unsure of what to say. It wasn’t until they were in the car that Bella leaned in at the window, tears streaming, pleading, "Meggie has accepted you as her Emily. Please, I beg of you, grant her this one last wish, please?" She seemed to think Emily's agreement earlier had only been to appease Meggie. "Bella, go back inside," Vincent said. "Miranda has her own choices to make, and we can't demand anything from her." Emily lowered her head, exhaling deeply, and after a pause, she gritted her teeth, "Bella, don't worry. I won’t go back on my promise to Meggie."
