Pampered By Billionaires After Betrayal

Chapter 418 God Knows

Bella was stunned. The girl standing before her didn’t look exactly like Emily Carter, but there was something about her – the aura, the expression – that was very much like Emily. Bella smiled apologetically, "You’re very thoughtful. Meggie talks about Emily all the time. Just now, she was holding my hand, saying Emily would come to visit her today. You may not look like her exactly, but with your similar demeanor, it might be enough to make the Meggie happy, especially since she can't see very well these days." Bella then slowly walked over and bowed deeply to Emily, sighing, "Miss, Meggie has longed to see Emily again, but Emily left us too soon... Could you, please, visit her more often? She doesn’t have much time left, and I think seeing someone like you makes her genuinely happy." Emily's face quickly turned pale, "Is Meggie’s health really that bad?" Bella sighed, her eyes moistening, "When Emily passed, it hit Meggie hard. Emily was such a good soul, she was even expecting a child. Meggie had already bought gifts for the baby, hoping to bless him with a life full of health and happiness. When Emily died, her baby was already seven months along. It was fully formed... but... it’s all gone now." Hearing mention of the baby, Emily's body shook. Vincent quickly steadied her, providing a solid support, and then turned to Bella, "Bella, let’s not dwell on the past. If Meggie hears this, it’ll just make her sad again." Bella gave a sad smile, dabbing at her tears, "I wouldn’t mention it in front of her, of course. But outside like this, where she can't hear... Vincent, what should I call this young lady?" "She is Emily." Emily shook Bella's hand gently, speaking softly, "You can call me Emily from now on, Bella." Bella was overjoyed, holding Emily's hand tightly, "That’s wonderful. You even sound like her. Thank you." Vincent spoke up, "Let’s go see Meggie." "Of course, come this way." Bella led the way with Emily following close behind, Vincent trailing slightly behind them. Vincent reached out as if to put his arm around Emily again, but she quickened her steps, evading his hand. Bella, turning back at just that moment, saw the gesture and gave a resigned smile, "There's no need to rush. You can pretend to be affectionate when we get in front of Meggie."Emily said nothing, just giving a small nod. The Norman family estate hadn’t changed one bit. It was winter now, and the ivy on the attic had turned a deep shade of red, seemingly thicker than three years ago. The bamboo grove, however, looked much the same. They climbed up to the attic, the stairs creaking underfoot, showing signs of age, even some decay. "This staircase should be reinforced," Emily muttered quietly, "It wouldn’t do for it to collapse with Bella going up and down." Bella laughed, "You always were so attentive. It’s still sturdy enough, though." At the top of the attic, Bella suddenly looked surprised, "Oh, Meggie, you’re out of bed?" A familiar elderly voice came from inside, "I may be old, but I’m not confused. Emily is coming to visit me today. I need to look presentable. I don’t want her worrying about me." Emily's eyes suddenly stung. She took a deep breath. A large hand settled on her waist, warm and reassuring, "Let’s go in." Meggie wore a bright red cardigan, sitting in a chair in the living room. Her hair had turned completely white, and both her head and hands shook uncontrollably. How could she have aged so much in just three years? "Grandma..." Emily called softly, "I’ve come to see you." Meggie’s eyes lit up, tossing aside her cane as she struggled to stand, "Oh, Emily! Emily, you’re finally here! Why haven’t you come sooner? I’ve missed you so much, I dream of you every single night." Emily couldn't hold back her tears, the drops rolling freely down her face, "That’s my fault. I’ll visit often from now on." "Why are you crying?" Meggie fumbled in her pocket for a handkerchief, wiping Emily’s tears. "Did Vincent make you upset? Don't be afraid, tell me, and I’ll teach him a lesson." Her vision blurred by tears, Emily shook her head, "No, I’m crying because I’m happy to see you, Grandma." Meggie laughed heartily, turning to Bella with a triumphant glint in her eye, "See? I told you Emily would come see me today." Bella, wiping her own tears, nodded in agreement. Meggie held Emily’s hand, guiding her to sit beside her on the couch, sighing, "They told me you were gone, but I didn’t believe them. I asked God countless times, and He told me you were alive, doing well. So I didn’t believe a word they said. You’re too good for Him to take you away. Look, here you are now, isn’t that right, Bella?" Bella, eyes still wet, nodded fervently, "Yes, you’re right." "It wasn't just me saying it," Meggie continued, smiling, "It’s what God told me. He also told me that Emily and Vincent will live happily together and have five children, three boys, and twin girls. Speaking of which, I need to prepare more gifts. Bella, remind me tomorrow to buy more for the children we’ll have in the future, in case I forget." "I'll make sure of it, ma’am." Meggie gave Vincent a stern look, "And you, Vincent! Your wife is crying, and you don’t even comfort her." Vincent walked over, wrapping his arms around Emily from behind, "I’m comforting her now, Grandma." "You silly boy," Meggie sighed, "It’s wonderful seeing you two like this. I feel my wishes have finally come true..." "Grandma, please don’t say such gloomy things," Vincent pleaded, "You’ll live for many more years." Meggie extended her hands, showing how much they shook, "I'm ninety-six years old now, just a few short years from a hundred! But that’s okay; I’ve lived long enough. As long as you both are happy, even if I go to meet your grandfather, I’ll be at peace."
