Everything Stolen, I Left to Become CEO
She stepped out, her hands freezing mid-motion as she adjusted her clothes. Those shoes, those trousers... Her head snapped up in shock. It was Jethro! Darcy hurriedly crossed her arms over her chest. She wasn't wearing anything underneath! "My apologies. I entered without permission," Jethro said, turning around like a gentleman, though his eyes flickered for a moment. Darcy's face was on fire. "It's... It's fine. Thank you for bringing the pajamas." It was unbearably awkward. She lowered her gaze and moved forward, but whether from dizziness or sheer nervousness, she stumbled over flat ground and the carpet. "Careful." Jethro reacted swiftly, catching her around the waist. He was tall. From his position holding her from behind, he had a clear view down the front of her... Jethro's ears burned. He immediately averted his eyes. Darcy wanted to cry. She wished she could sink through the floor. She closed her eyes, her voice trembling. "Th-thank you." Then she fled like a scared rabbit into the inner suite, put on a robe, and came back out. Cindy pushed the door open from the outside. "Hey, Jethro, you're here?" Seeing the hangover soup on the table, Cindy's eyes lit up. "You're the best! "Darcy, this one's for you." So Jethro had come to bring them hangover soup. Darcy picked up the bowl and drank quietly, not saying a word. Cindy chattered away beside her brother.First, she complained about how Zora had claimed her computer was broken during the presentation today, suspecting it was intentional. Then she griped about how awful Brandon had been, pushing drinks on them. Jethro nodded along from time to time, but he wasn't really listening. He couldn't help glancing at the woman silently drinking her soup. Inappropriate images kept popping into his mind. "Hey! Are you even listening?" Cindy complained. "You're spacing out while I'm talking now? Hmph!" Jethro cleared his throat, his fist pressed to his lips. "I should go." "Hey, Jethro, why are your ears and the back of your neck so red? Oh my gosh, are you having an allergic reaction?!" Cindy's voice suddenly rose. Darcy also looked over, concerned. Was it because of those two glasses of wine he drank for her? "I'm fine. Don't worry." After saying that, Jethro glanced at Darcy and left. Cindy rubbed her chin thoughtfully. "I feel like my brother was acting really weird tonight. Darcy, don't you think?" Darcy immediately lowered her head to her soup. "He seemed fine to me. You're overthinking it." Am I? Cindy felt something was off. That night, Darcy had an absurd dream. She dreamed she married Jethro. After the wedding, they lay on a wedding bed. Jethro leaned over her, hands on either side, coming closer and closer... Darcy jolted awake. She patted her chest. How absurd! Picking up her phone, she rubbed her eyes. It was 5 AM.She tried to go back to sleep but couldn't. Giving up, she got up, washed up, and took out a practice test. Soon, she had finished two sets. Her accuracy rate was pretty high. Checking the time, she had half an hour left. She pulled out a math test. And then— She got stuck on the very first major problem! Darcy groaned in frustration, grabbing her hair. "Darcy, what are you doing?" Cindy walked out from the inner room, stood behind her, took one look, and her eyes widened. She exclaimed, "Wow, oh wow, oh wow!" But she could see Darcy was stuck on a difficult problem. "Ask my brother. He's a math whiz," Cindy suggested. Darcy was stunned.Right. Prof. Reed did say I could ask Jethro if I didn't understand. But remembering last night— Darcy patted her rapidly warming cheeks. "No need to bother him. We should get ready." After getting ready, they went to the hotel's first-floor restaurant for breakfast. The breakfast buffet had many options. Darcy chose a few local specialties. Carrying her plate to find Cindy, she suddenly saw Jethro sitting across from her. Darcy paused mid-step, then forced herself to walk over. "Good morning, Mr. Blackwood." After the greeting, she quickly lowered her eyes, not daring to look at the man opposite her again. Jethro was much the same, his gaze lowered, unusually quiet. Only the clueless Cindy chattered away, one moment reaching for a pastry from Darcy's plate, the next asking her brother if the coffee was good, as busy as a bee. As they were finishing breakfast, Cindy remembered the unsolved math problem from the morning and said casually, "Jethro, when you have time today, could you help Darcy with a math problem?" She nudged Darcy's elbow. "Don't be shy. My brother is really good at this." Darcy rubbed her forehead weakly, trying to refuse. "Actually, I—" "Sure." Darcy was stunned. He agreed just like that? Jethro checked his phone calendar. "I'll have time after 8 PM." "Great, it's settled then." Cindy nodded. "Come to our room tonight."
