Everything Stolen, I Left to Become CEO

Chapter 95 Whose Girlfriend Is She?

Brandon, having been around, instantly understood. His eyes lit up. "Ah, I see! So you two are a pair!" Zora lowered her head, a shy smile playing on her lips as she couldn't help but glance at Zane. Zane didn't correct him. He was tacitly agreeing. "Well then, that won't do! You'll have to drink double!" Brandon beamed and stood to pour him a brimming glass. Zane didn't refuse, accepting it all. He looked every bit the gallant lover stepping up for his partner. Cindy sneered quietly, full of disdain, "Showing off your love? Hope you crash and burn." Darcy pressed her lips together, finding it ridiculous.Just moments ago, this man was clenching his teeth, demanding she return. Now he was shielding another woman from drinks, all tenderness and care. When did Zane develop multiple personalities? But she couldn't help remembering the past. When she used to entertain clients, no matter how unreasonable they were, Zane had never shielded her from drinks like this. All he ever gave was a weightless, "Good job." Ha. And I stuck by a man like that for seven years? I must have been blind. As she refocused, Brandon was filling her glass again. Darcy was about to raise it when the door suddenly swung open. She looked up and saw Jethro standing tall in the doorway. Brandon recovered and hurriedly stood. "Mr. Blackwood! What brings you here?"Jethro smiled, "Just happened to be meeting a client in the next room. Heard your voice and thought I'd say hello." Brandon was flattered. This was a major figure from Aethelburg, coming over just to greet him? What a pleasant surprise. "Mr. Blackwood, let me propose a toast." Without another word, Brandon raised a glass towards Jethro. Brandon drank first. Jethro smiled, then also tilted his head back and finished his drink. Not only that, his long arm reached for the liquor bottle on the table and poured two more glasses. "These two, I'll finish as well." After drinking them, his lips curved in a smile as he said to Brandon, "Since I've drunk these, my subordinate shouldn't have to drink anymore, right?" Darcy was stunned. His subordinate... Is Jethro shielding me from the drinks? She clenched her hands self-consciously. Brandon also paused, looking at Darcy, then at Jethro, and instantly understood. What's with everyone bringing their lovers on business trips? "Don't worry, Mr. Blackwood. I get the picture," Brandon said with a knowing smile. Darcy's heart raced. She knew Brandon had misunderstood, but she couldn't explain. Explaining would undermine Jethro and probably get her doused with more drinks. So, she played dumb until the heat in her cheeks became impossible to ignore. "Hey, Darcy, your face is so red!" Cindy reached over and touched Darcy's cheek, startling her. Darcy snapped back to reality and realized Jethro had already left. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her heartbeat.Cindy winked at her. With perfect understanding, Darcy said casually, "My face just flushes easily when I drink." Cindy gasped dramatically. "Oh, I've heard that's a sign the liver isn't detoxifying well. In severe cases, it can even lead to shock!" At these words, Brandon's hands trembled in alarm. Without another word, he immediately had his secretary call a car to take them back to the hotel. Only after Darcy and Cindy had left did Brandon wipe the cold sweat from his brow. He sat down, took a sip of his drink, patted his chest, and said to the remaining two in the room, "That scared me! I almost made Mr. Blackwood's girlfriend seriously ill!" Clink— The sound of a glass shattering in someone's grip came. They looked over. Shattered fragments scattered. Zane's palm was bleeding profusely. Brandon was horrified. "Mr. Vance, what—" "She is not Jethro's girlfriend!" Zane ground out through clenched teeth. Then, cradling his bleeding hand, he stood up and stormed out. Zora sat at the table, her face ashen. It had been unpleasant ever since Jethro entered and made that ambiguous statement. Now, seeing Zane lose his mind over Darcy, she was furious enough to scream. But for the sake of the deal, she forced a smile. "Apologies, Mr. Cole. We have to leave. See you tomorrow." The private room was left with only Brandon and his secretary, looking at each other in bewilderment. Brandon pondered Zane's parting words and couldn't resist gossiping with his secretary. "What do you think the relationship is between those four?" The secretary was also confused. You're asking me? Back at the hotel, both Darcy and Cindy felt a bit lightheaded. The liquor Brandon had chosen tonight was strong. Even though they could hold their liquor, they couldn't avoid a tipsy haze. After lying down for a while, Darcy got up to shower. After the shower, she felt much more refreshed. But then she realized, with embarrassment, that she had forgotten to bring her pajamas in. "Cindy? Cindy, are you there? Could you hand me the pajamas on the bed?" No response from outside. Darcy suspected Cindy had fallen asleep. She was about to brave opening the door when a hand reached in with the pajamas. Without much thought, Darcy put them on. As she opened the door, she said, "Oh, you were there. I thought you'd fallen asleep."
