Everything Stolen, I Left to Become CEO

Chapter 42 The Last Day

Dr. Moss is really impressive. Everyone's admiration for Zora had grown even more. If Darcy hadn't shown up today, many would have forgotten she even still worked there. Darcy sensed the strange atmosphere but ignored it. It was her last day, after all. She walked straight to the HR manager, Lucy Lynch. "Lucy, could you please print me an offboarding form and prepare my termination certificate? Thank you." Lucy was stunned. "O-offboarding form? Darcy, why are you resigning?" Lucy was a veteran employee and, being older than Darcy, had known Darcy for a long time. Darcy didn't explain. She just smiled, "Yeah. Mr. Vance and I have discussed it." What? Mr. Vance agreed? It dawned on Lucy then, remembering the rumors flying around the office about Zane and Zora. She couldn't help but look at Darcy with pity. Men are trash. You stick with them through thick and thin, and the moment someone new comes along, they forget all about you! But Lucy was just an employee. If Zane had agreed, it wasn't her place to say anything. She printed the offboarding form and handed it to Darcy. "Fill this out and bring it back before you leave. I'll have your certificate ready." Darcy took the form back to her desk. Several sales colleagues she got along with gathered around. "Darcy! You're back from leave?!" Faye, her assistant, exclaimed, running over happily. Darcy gave a faint smile. "Yeah, I'm back." Faye suddenly found herself speechless. There was so much she wanted to say but didn't dare. Her gaze drifted past Darcy to the independent office behind her. A nameplate on the door read, "Vice President: Zora Moss."Darcy had seen it already. It didn't surprise her much. At this point, even if she found out Zora was the company's CEO, she wouldn't bat an eye. Zane had kept Zora in his heart for over a decade. Now that they were together, he'd probably give her the moon and stars if he could. "I already know," Darcy said, patting Faye's shoulder. Then she looked at the other colleagues. "I'm here today to process my resignation." Everyone stared, dumbfounded. Faye was the first to protest, "Darcy, why are you letting that bitch win? Leaving now is just handing over everything you worked for all these years!" "Yeah, Ms. Gale, don't be naive. She's trying to push you out on purpose," another colleague chimed in. Darcy was genuinely touched. To have people speak up for her on her last day... at least her years here hadn't been for nothing. But the truth was, if her relationship with Zane wasn't part of the equation, she might have fought. Once feelings got involved, some battles just weren't worth fighting anymore. She admitted it, even now, she hadn't completely let go of Zane. But time would take care of that. Let it be. I'm just tired of all this. She didn't want to say more. "Thank you, everyone. But my mind is made up. I'm leaving today." Faye's lips trembled, tears welling in her eyes. "Darcy... let's have lunch together. A goodbye lunch." It was a tradition in their department. When a colleague left, they'd all go out for one last meal. But Darcy had to get back to Stratagem Tech to write code in the afternoon. She didn't have time. Faye looked heartbroken."It's okay. I'm not leaving Aethelburg. We can meet up some other time," Darcy said, patting Faye's head to comfort her. They all knew the truth, though. "Some other time" was just a polite phrase. There probably wouldn't be another time. A somber mood settled over the sales department. Suddenly, someone whispered, "Dr. Moss is here." Darcy's hand stilled. She hadn't planned on seeing Zora. Her work handover was simple—just client files. She'd already organized everything on a USB drive. The person taking over just needed to confirm receipt. But since Zora was here, a brief, polite greeting was unavoidable. Darcy took a deep breath and stood up. But Zora didn't appear. Someone scratched their head awkwardly. "Dr. Moss went upstairs... to Mr. Vance's office."Faye rolled her eyes so hard it was audible. "She's either in Mr. Vance's office or on her way to. If anyone says there's nothing going on between them, they're lying!" A male colleague put a finger to his lips. "Shh! You dare say that? Have you forgotten what happened to Julia and Jake?" Darcy frowned. She had hired Julia and Jake. She hadn't seen them today and assumed they were out with clients. They'd left? She couldn't help asking, "What happened to them?" The male colleague leaned in and whispered, "Julia and Jake couldn't stand that woman parachuting in as our boss. They challenged her. Then Mr. Vance fired them. He even said he'd blacklist them from the whole industry. It's awful." Darcy's frown deepened. Since when did Zane become such a tyrant? A bitter taste filled her mouth. So Zane does know how to favor a woman. He just never wanted to favor me!Darcy sat at her desk for another half an hour, but there was still no sign of Zora.
