Everything Stolen, I Left to Become CEO

Chapter 387 The Confession

Rhett took in her panic. He held up a photo of Draven in front of Annie. "Ms. Roby, do you know this man?" Annie instinctively shook her head, her voice sharp and piercing. "No! I don't know him!" Rhett said, "Is that so? Yet you share the same surname. And there is a witness who saw you both entering and leaving the same hotel." He then showed her the prepared surveillance footage. Annie avoided looking at it, vehemently denying it. "We might have gone to the same hotel, but I don't know him! As for the same surname, that's normal. There are so many people with that surname in the country. Maybe several people with that surname stayed at that hotel. Why aren't you suspecting them, Officer Foster?" The others were already shocked upon hearing the victim shared Annie's surname. Was this Draven a relative of Annie's?Several staff who had worked at the estate for decades and were familiar with Annie remembered her father claiming to be an only child. So, where did this relative with the same surname come from? Jasper still chose to believe Annie, insisting, "No way! It must be Draven framing her! Officer Foster, look at Annie! She's so small, so weak! How could she possibly kill a grown man?!" Rhett looked at him as if he were a fool. "Many murderers appear weak and unremarkable. It doesn't negate their cruelty." He turned calmly back to Annie. "Ms. Roby, it's alright. We have other evidence." He gestured to a subordinate, who brought over a digital voice recorder. Rhett pressed play. Draven's weak, recorded voice filled the room. "My name is Draven Roby. I am the younger brother of the late Joel, and Annie's biological uncle. I want to report a crime. I accuse Annie of attempted murder. Here's what happened... After I fell into the concrete mixer pit, fortunately, someone rescued me and took me to the hospital. Both my legs are ruined, but at least my life was saved. That bitch Annie, she's completely deranged! She even dared to kill her own uncle! You must sentence her to death!..." Annie's face turned deathly pale. Her heart plummeted to the depths. Draven really... really wasn't dead! Someone saved him! But that place was so remote! Who would go there?! Strangely, when she heard his voice, she should've spiraled. Instead, a weird calm washed over her. Perhaps, knowing escape was impossible, she no longer wanted to struggle. Maybe fate, like a giant hand, had already locked her in place long ago, and there was truly no escape. Annie tilted her head back, tears slowly trickling from the corners of her eyes, drop by drop, landing on the back of Jasper's hand.Seeing her like this, Jasper felt worse than if he'd been stabbed, wishing he could bear the punishment for her. "Annie, don't worry! As long as you didn't do it, no one can frame you! I'll always stand by you!" Annie gave a tragic smile, tears now rolling down faster, like broken strings of pearls. "Thank you, Jasper. Thanks for believing me." She turned her head, meeting Rhett's gaze. Even now, her face was filled with stubborn defiance. "Who saved him?" Jasper's heart clenched hard. He slowly realized the hidden meaning in Annie's question and couldn't help but take two steps back. Annie lifted her chin slightly, her eyes bloodshot, her voice hoarse and desperate. "Tell me! Who saved him?! That scum doesn't deserve to live in this world! He deserves to rot in the deepest hell! My life, my dad's life—he ruined everything! Everything!" Everyone present was startled.Arthur couldn't support himself any longer, his body swaying backward—thankfully, Jethro moved fast and caught him. "Take my grandpa upstairs to rest," Jethro instructed the butler. But Arthur waved a hand. "It's fine. I'm alright." He wanted to see why his great-grandson's mother had wanted to kill. Rhett pressed his lips together, seemingly contemplating whether to tell Annie. "It was my people who saved him." Jethro stepped forward, lazy and unhurried. Annie slowly raised her head, disbelief, shock, and bitter self-mockery swirling in her eyes. After a long moment, she ground out through clenched teeth, "You had me followed?" Jethro nodded. "Yes." "Since when?" "From the moment you said you were carrying my child."Annie began to laugh through her tears, her behavior somewhat deranged. "So you never believed me from the very beginning!" Her tone suddenly turned sinister. "But it doesn't matter. It's just attempted murder. I won't be in for long. Besides, my son is already part of the Blackwood family. My greatest wish is fulfilled." Jethro gave a cold laugh. "You're wrong. It's not just attempted murder. You bear the burden of three lives." Annie's spine stiffened, a cold sweat breaking out. "What do you mean?" Jethro's voice was calm and cruel. "Draven confessed everything. The kidnapping of my dad and my uncle all those years ago—it was all your idea. Your dad, Joel, only got involved in kidnapping and extortion with Draven because you planned it."
