Chapter 386 The Arrest

Rhett thought for a moment, then nodded. "Alright." Arthur turned to the guests. In the span of just a few minutes, everyone felt Arthur had aged considerably. His eyes were cloudy and confused, his voice frail. Though curiosity burned, they understood this was likely a Blackwood family matter. As outsiders, it was best to leave. Guests began filing out one after another. The last to leave were the Knights. Cedric stepped forward to offer comfort. "Mr. Blackwood, take care of yourself." Arthur nodded. "My deepest apologies for today's inadequate hospitality. Please forgive the oversight." As the four Knights walked out, Zephyr was suddenly called back."Zephyr, you stay." Jethro's voice rang out. Jeremy frowned, a sudden, ominous premonition stirring within him. A Blackwood family matter—what right does Zephyr have to be involved? Jethro patted Zephyr's shoulder, lowering his voice. "Stay. Be a witness for me." Though puzzled, Cedric, considering Jethro's close relationship with his younger son, thought no more of it and left with his family. Once the main hall was cleared, the remaining group moved towards the rear hall. Arthur's steps were unsteady. He suddenly stopped, looked around anxiously, and asked, "Where is Jett?" Jethro replied, "I had Jasper take him upstairs to rest." Arthur's expression softened slightly. "Finally acting a bit like a father." Jethro said nothing, merely coming over to support him. "Take it easy."In the rear hall, Annie had been restless when she heard about the police. The news exploded in her mind like a bomb. She stood frozen for over ten seconds before she could process it. Were the police here for her? No, impossible. The place where Draven died was extremely secluded. That road had no cameras. No one could have discovered it was her. Besides, Draven had no relatives or friends here in Aethelburg except for her. Forget half a month—if he vanished for ten years, no one would notice, let alone call the cops. Annie slowly calmed down, exhaling a long breath. Don't panic. This has nothing to do with me. I'm scaring myself. Those dignitaries in the main hall walked a fine line every day; it was normal for some of them to have a few cases on their backs. She moved to the side door of the rear hall, ready to escape from there if things went wrong. She knew this door led directly to the estate's service exit. But she had overestimated herself. From the moment she realized what was happening to being subdued by the police officers who entered, it took only five seconds. It was as precise as if the police had known exactly where she was hiding. Annie almost forgot to struggle, standing there dazed and utterly defeated. When the group entered, they saw her like this. A flicker of hope crossed Annie's eyes. She cried out, "Jethro! Save me! They've got the wrong person! It wasn't me! It wasn't me!" Jethro looked at her, his gaze icy and piercing. Annie trembled almost imperceptibly, despair flaring in her eyes. He doesn't believe me?!Everyone present, besides Jethro and the police, was also stunned. The suspect is Annie? The birth mother of Jett? How is that possible? She looks so fragile. How could she be a suspect? Even Arthur, who disliked Annie, quickly turned to Rhett. "Could there be a mistake?" Rhett's gaze was sharp as a hawk's. "We'll know once we question her at the station." Arthur pressed, "What case is it?" Rhett replied, "One—oh, no, two homicide cases." A collective gasp echoed in the room. Two homicides! Who could have imagined that the outwardly delicate Annie could be linked to two murders? At that moment, Jasper hurried in, breathless. "There must be a mistake! How could Annie be involved in a murder case?"He rushed to Annie's side, stroking her pale cheek, comforting her, "Annie, don't be afraid. Even if no one else believes you, I do. It definitely wasn't you." The onlookers were shocked again, exchanging glances, hardly daring to breathe. Ms. Roby's child is Mr. Jethro Blackwood's, but Mr. Jasper Blackwood is being so intimate with her. This... Arthur saw stars, roaring in anger, "Jasper! What are you doing?!" Jasper turned, his face filled with determination. "Grandpa, you don't need to remind me. I know exactly what I'm doing." He then looked at Rhett. "Officer Foster, you must be mistaken. Annie could never be a murderer. Someone is deliberately framing her." Rhett glanced at him coolly. "That remains to be seen, Mr. Blackwood." "Then tell us the name of the complainant and the victim!""The complainant, who is also the victim, is named... Draven Roby." At that name, Annie's eyes widened, her whole body trembling. Draven isn't dead? No, impossible! He fell into such a deep pit! How could he have survived?
