The Second Love

Chapter 318 Are They At Odds?

I pointed towards the door and said to Shannon, "Hey, look over there, it's Benjamin Chance." "What a coincidence..." Before Shannon could finish her sentence, she accidentally knocked her coffee cup onto the table, startling me. "Hey, be careful. Luckily, the coffee was cold." I handed her several tissues while helping to clean up the spilled coffee on the table. Shannon seemed flustered as she hastily wiped the coffee stains off her hands and stood up. "Liliana Zanetti, let's not eat here. Let's go." I looked at her in confusion, not understanding the situation. "What's wrong? Why don't we eat here? Didn't you strongly recommend this place yesterday, saying the food was delicious?" Shannon hurriedly walked around the table and grabbed my wrist. "Oh, let's go to another place. There's another restaurant that's also delicious. Let's go, hurry up." I was even more puzzled by her strange behavior. What did she mean? Nevertheless, I went along with her and stood up with my bag. Muttering to myself, "Fine, let's go then. This is so confusing." Just as we turned around, we coincidentally bumped into Benjamin Chance, who was already walking towards us. I hadn't seen him in a while, so it was a pleasant surprise to run into him. I greeted him happily. "Hey, what a coincidence to see the great lawyer here. Are you here for the risotto too?" Benjamin Chance looked at me and Shannon with a meaningful gaze and nodded, "Yes, I heard someone recommend this place, so I came to try it." "Since we've bumped into each other, let's eat together. After all, I'm alone." Upon hearing his words, I instinctively wanted to agree, but before I could respond, Shannon, who was standing next to me, directly rejected him. And her words had a strong sense of hostility in my ears. "No need for that. If you want to eat, eat by yourself! Move aside, we're leaving!" Benjamin Chance's smile instantly disappeared, and his face turned as dark as ink. I looked back and forth between the two of them, feeling puzzled. What's going on with these two? How did they end up at odds? I remember Shannon and Benjamin Chance getting along well before. "Shannon Harper, do you have to be like this? It's just eating risotto," Benjamin Chance's voice was cold. But Shannon completely ignored Benjamin Chance and pushed him away, pulling me along. She was walking fast, and I was having trouble keeping up. I grabbed her arm and called out, "Shannon, slow down, I can't keep up." At that moment, Benjamin Chance caught up from behind and stood in front of us. "Shannon Harper!" "Get out of the way! Don't you know that a good dog doesn't block the road?" I looked at the escalating tension between the two of them and became more and more confused. What on earth was happening between them? Did Benjamin Chance do something to upset Shannon? But I didn't have time to think about it now. I needed to calm them down first.I squeezed myself between the two of them, pushing them apart, playing the peacemaker. "Um... let's not argue, you guys are friends, right? Let's talk it out." "Well, Benjamin Chance, Shannon and I have something to do later, so we won't have risotto today. We'll make plans for another time." "Shannon, let's go. I just remembered that I need to buy something. Let's go shopping first." I waved at Benjamin Chance while holding onto Shannon's arm, and we walked away. Fortunately, Benjamin Chance didn't do anything else this time, nor did he come to stop us. Shannon and I smoothly left the risotto restaurant. But after we left the restaurant, Shannon didn't say a word and had a very unpleasant expression on her face. Seeing her like this, I didn't dare to ask her about Benjamin Chance, afraid of triggering her anger. After thinking for a moment, I decided to change the subject. "Um... Shannon, I know a sushi place nearby that's really good. Let's go eat sushi." "I can't eat, I have no appetite! And you, a pregnant woman, shouldn't eat sushi or any raw food." As soon as Shannon spoke, I could feel her anger. It was clear that she hadn't calmed down yet. I quickly smiled and explained, "I won't eat sushi. They also have delicious udon noodles there. I'll have noodles, and you can have sushi." But Shannon shook her head and said with a fierce look, "I won't eat! I have no interest in anything, even if it's dragon meat!" "Liliana Zanetti, I'll take you home. I'm not in the mood anymore." I didn't want to let Shannon go alone at this moment, so I grabbed her and acted cute, saying, "Oh, I want to eat noodles. Let's go, it's already late. You can't let a pregnant woman go home on an empty stomach, can you?" "Let me finish eating before I go back. Come on, it's just up ahead, not far at all." Despite Shannon's reluctance and unfamiliarity, she eventually agreed with me. The restaurant I mentioned, I had been there with Dominic Hartnell before I got pregnant, and the food was really good. Plus, it was really close to where we were now, just one intersection away. We didn't even need to take a taxi, we could walk there and it would only take ten minutes. Familiar with the route, I led Shannon to the Japanese restaurant. After we sat down, I didn't ask for her opinion, I just ordered the dishes. During the wait for the food, I started thinking about Shannon and Benjamin Chance. But at that moment, my phone vibrated again. When I took it out, I was surprised to see that it was a WeChat message from Benjamin Chance. Without showing any reaction, I glanced at Shannon, who was lost in thought and completely unaware of me. Only then did I open the WeChat message. Benjamin Chance: Take good care of her and take her to eat risotto. I was a little dumbfounded, raised an eyebrow, feeling like there was a lot of information in that message. Me: Benjamin Chance, did you say it the wrong way around? Shouldn't it be her taking care of me and taking me to eat risotto? Benjamin Chance: You both eat together, take good care of her. Me: Benjamin Chance, what happened between you and Shannon? Something was off, very off! There was clearly something going on between them. But it seemed like Benjamin Chance was interested while Shannon didn't seem to care for him. After sending that WeChat message, I waited for a while, but Benjamin Chance didn't reply. I had no choice but to put my phone back in my bag and look at Shannon again. I just didn't know what she was thinking. She had been in a daze the whole time. I gestured in front of her, yet she remained unresponsive, prompting me to tap on the table. At that moment, Shannon suddenly regained her focus, and I detected a trace of panic in her eyes.
