The Second Love
“Liliana, are you okay?” Dominic asked worriedly, instantly coming to my side and putting his arms around my waist. However, at that moment, I could no longer suppress my anger as it ate me up. How audacious! I can't believe his mother wants to buy my babies over with money! I pushed him away with all my strength and supported myself against the couch. “Dominic, I don't want to say anything to you right now. I only have one request—tell your mom to leave, now!” Dominic once again reached out and held onto my arm. Then, he turned around and told Milena, “Mom, why don't you leave first? I'll explain it to you later.” “You want me to leave? Am I no longer important to you right now?” “Mom!” His tone turned cold. Milena stood up from the couch abruptly and retorted, “All right, then! It seems that you're the absolute spitting image of your father! I'm nothing to both of you, right? Like father like son, there is no place for me in the Hartnell family anymore.” Dominic was stupefied upon hearing Milena's words and looked at her confusedly. I could not help but snicker in my heart. It looks like she decided to change her attitude since her previous forceful approach didn't work. How interesting. “Mom, what are you talking about? Both Dad and I care about you a lot.” The older woman sneered and sent a look at Dominic and my way before turning to leave. “Mom!” Along with Dominic's cry, a loud bang resonated through the room as the door slammed shut. Soon, the living room quieted down. After that, Dominic furrowed his eyebrows, staring at me for a few moments before speaking. “Let's forget all about that. Have you eaten? I'll cook something for you.”Biting my lip, I flung his hand away. “I'm not hungry. I don't want to eat anything.” “You need to eat even if you're not hungry. You're not only eating for yourself, you know.” The man's facial expression darkened, and his tone turned stern. When I heard his words, Milena's words replayed in my mind over and over again. Immediately, I was consumed by rage and roared, “That's right! I'm not only feeding myself, as I still have two little ones in my womb. Are you also thinking of stealing my babies away and breaking up with me right after? Probably to you, I'm just some tool to give birth to your offspring, someone insignificant.” Dominic's expression hardened, and those beautiful eyes of his lost the usual warmth they had. “I know you're feeling down because of my mother's sudden arrival, so I'm going to pretend that I didn't hear any of that. However, you'd better not say something like that again.” I could no longer suppress the emotions inside of me. Rage, sorrow, grievance, and fear engulfed me whole. Ever since I had gotten pregnant and followed Dominic back home, I strengthened my resolve and never cried since. However, I could no longer stop the brimming tears from streaming down my cheeks. “Does it matter whether I say it or not? Do you know what your mother told me just now? Look at the check on the table. She wants to buy my babies! If the babies turn out to be yours, she'll give me two million and chase me out. If they aren't, then it'll be one million, and I have to leave all the same. Dominic, do you have the same thoughts as her? Are you trying to get rid of the mother and only keep the baby? After you take them away, who will you raise them with? Would it be some b*tch from a prestigious family? I don't want them to call her 'Mom'! If you dare to do this, I'd rather die than let it go your way!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. Her mother's words were like needles stabbing my heart, causing fear to course through me. Upon hearing my words, Dominic stood frozen on the spot. I choked back a sob, finding it difficult to breathe as if a rock was weighing my chest down. Dominic finally snapped back to reality a few seconds later and pulled me into his arms. “That'll never happen, so don't overthink. I want both the babies and you, and nobody will dare to steal any of you away. Didn't you say that you'll believe in me? Therefore, please trust me; I'll never let something like that happen.” Swinging my arms, I kept punching him as I sobbed uncontrollably. However, Dominic did not dodge and only continued to comfort me. After a long time, I finally stopped crying and realized my throat hurt. “Dominic,” I said with my hoarse voice, “if you dare to take my babies away, I'll leave you right now and would never meet you again.” “Nonsense! No one will take them away. I will be with you forever, and we'll raise our children together. You and the twins are the most important people in my life.” His voice was shaky, but his grip on my body was firm as if he wanted to meld my body with his. I buried my head into his chest and stayed silent for a moment, listening to his powerful heartbeat. After a moment, I said, “I'm tired. I want to get some sleep.” Dominic took both of my hands and pulled me out of his embrace. “Okay, but eat something before sleeping. All right?” At that, I nodded in response. However, I did not have much appetite and only ate half a bowl of risotto. “I'll finish eating it after I get up. I honestly don't have the appetite now.” Hearing my words, Dominic did not continue insisting and supported me back to my room. After putting me in bed, he bent down and kissed my lips. “I need to return to the villa later, so I'll have Yvonne come over. She'll perform a checkup on you and accompany you. Be obedient and wait for my return. Promise me not to overthink, okay?”As if in a daze, I stared at him for a moment before nodding my head. Soon after, he stayed by my side until Yvonne came over and checked my vitals. Dominic only left after confirming that I was all right. Then, I told Yvonne to leave me alone as it was hard to fall asleep with someone around. Yvonne did not force me and told me that she would be in the living room if I ever needed her. Finally, I was left alone in the room. Feeling weak, I slowly shut my eyes, and tears rolled down my cheeks uncontrollably. Although I was clinging onto the duvet, I could only feel coldness and fear engulfing me whole.
