The Second Love
No matter how I thought about it, it did not make sense. Shannon and I had been in the living room all this while, so it was unlikely for us to have triggered him. At that moment, Shannon spoke up. “Liliana, it's getting late already; I should probably leave now. I'll come back again to see you and my godchildren.” Upon hearing that, my attention shifted back to her. “Huh? It's not that late. It's barely nine o'clock.” I noticed I was getting more clingy, perhaps due to my pregnancy. Dominic was my victim before this, and since Shannon was here, I was reluctant to let her leave. Shannon stood up from the couch. “Stop being so clingy. You're giving me goosebumps. It's not that late, but you need to rest more now that you're pregnant. I'll take off first. Bye!” Still unwilling to let her go so soon, I grabbed her arm. “Since I need to take a walk too, why don't I just send you off? Dominic, come on. Let's see Shannon off.” He would never agree to let me leave the house if I did not ask him to come along. “Okay.” I had to admit I was surprised that he agreed to it. It was getting difficult for me to head out ever since I got pregnant in which I had to convince him for a long time before he would agree. However, things were different that night. Words could not describe how overjoyed I was. Although it was already spring, the weather was still chilly at night. I had to be careful not to fall sick as I could not take medication while pregnant. Therefore, Dominic put a thick coat on me before we headed out. I did not want to wear the coat, but I knew there was no way I could convince him otherwise. After all, I had tried a few times before this, and the outcome was always the same—I would be forced to stay at home if I refused to obey him.Dominic would always wrap his arm around me when we headed out, afraid that someone would crash into me. However, with Shannon here that night, he did not walk with us. Instead, he followed behind us from a distance. Naturally, she was the one who got hold of me. I was relieved either way. Under the moonlight, Shannon and I were walking together while chatting away. I was so used to Dominic being by my side all this while. Now that he was not, I would always turn around to look at him. Seeing him was the only way to quell my uneasiness. After turning around, again and again, Shannon suddenly pinched my waist. “Are you done yet? Should I just leave you two alone? You've been looking at him ever since we started walking. I'm so done with you and your clinginess.” I laughed dryly. “I'll stop looking at him then.”Shannon gave me the side-eye. “I can't understand you. Just what do you see in Dominic? Why do you have to be with him when there are so many men out there? I don't think he's a decent man, not to mention that his mother is a huge trouble. Have you thought this through? What if you regret this?” Holding her arm, I laughed and replied, “I won't. I don't think I'll be that misfortunate to break up with the same guy three times in a row. Anyway, our messy history happened for a reason too. He's also not willing to give up on me. Otherwise, do you think I'd be that foolish to stick with him just because I'm pregnant?” Shannon was probably speechless with my attitude as she snorted. “You're foolish.” Am I foolish? Maybe a little. But then, is there anyone who can confidently claim that they're not foolish in love? I don't think so. That's why I'm willing to give it a shot this time. After sending Shannon to somewhere where she could get a taxi, she ushered me to go back. Dominic must have thought the same way as he had already walked up to me.Feeling his warmth near me, I naturally leaned toward him, and he wrapped an arm around my waist. We exchanged some small talks before Shannon looked at Dominic. “I hope you won't disappoint Liliana and her trust in you this time. You should know how to cherish her and not break her heart again. Otherwise, you will only lose her, and there's nothing you can do to win her over again.” Standing in between them, I suddenly felt like crying upon hearing that. Dominic tightened his grasp around my waist as he said firmly, “That won't happen.” He did not specifically explain what he meant by “that,” but I knew he was talking about not betraying my trust and also not losing me. After Shannon left in a taxi, Dominic and I started walking back home. He held me steadily in his embrace and kissed me on the lips. “Trust me,” he murmured.I smiled and hugged his waist. “I trust you, always.” Even though I could not be sure if I would regret this in the future, I should give him my complete trust since I had already made a choice. We made out on the street for a while before walking back home. After all, we should know better than to conduct indecent acts in public. However, perhaps my energy was drained from all the chatting and walking that night, I suddenly got hungry. Thus, I pestered him for a plate of pasta at a nearby restaurant before returning home. Ever since that day, I had been living a comfortable life where I was pampered in every way possible. Dominic had to go to work every day, but he would return after lunchtime. When he was away in the morning, a housekeeper he hired would keep me company and make me lunch. The housekeeper would leave once Dominic returned from work. My work in hand had already been allocated accordingly, and Shannon finally decided to let Grace take over “The Wind And Cloud.” I still kept this a secret from my parents and Louis and even had Shannon bring Smokey over. That was because I did not want to affect my parents' mood when they had just gone on another cruise trip and would not return home for at least half a month. Since Louis was back to school already, no one would be able to take care of Smokey if not me. Dominic did not like the idea at first, but he compromised after hearing the research I had done on the internet. Pregnant women could take care of pets, too, as long as the pet was vaccinated. I just had to be more hygienic. I was contented with life until Dominic's mother decided to show up unannounced one day.
