The Second Love
I felt a chill down my spine as I looked at the darkened screen of my phone. It was evident that Dominic was furious. He was waiting for me to get there to punish me. Should I not go, then?Well, I could do that, but it's not like I could hide from him forever. If I don't go there tonight, he would definitely come over and grab me himself. That would be even worse. With that thought in mind, I mourned for myself for a few seconds before deciding to beg Dominic for mercy once I saw him. I had no choice but to try and appease him. My child, please give me your support and cheer me on. “Nicholas, I'll get off here.” Dominic was now in a bad temper, so I could not let him see Nicholas sending me there. Otherwise, it would be a disaster if the two of them met.“Where are you going? Let me go with you,” Nicholas said. I knew Nicholas would not let me go easily. However, just as I was about to refuse him, he continued, “If you don't want me to go with you, we can return to the hotel.” “Nicholas...” I was frustrated and shocked at the same time. Of all the times I had known him, I had never seen him so forceful and direct. “Liliana, I'm just worried about you,” Nicholas said with a concerned tone just when I was still deciding on what to say. Seeing that he was concerned about me, I could not bring myself to flat out refuse him. Nonetheless, I was aware that if he and Dominic were to meet, it would be as disastrous as Earth colliding into Mars. Furthermore, I was not that weak. It was not as if I was planning to walk there. I was going to hail a cab, so Nicholas had nothing to worry about. Or, could it be that Nicholas is worried about me meeting Dominic? Even so, his worry was unfounded. No matter how angry Dominic was, he would never hit me. I was confident about that. “There's nothing to worry about. Dominic will not hurt me, so you don't have to go with me. Besides, it would be bad if both of you start fighting,” I argued. In actuality, I wanted to add that I would consider myself lucky if they only argue with each other. I was afraid that they would beat each other up. Their last fistfight was still replaying in my mind. However, Nicholas still refused to budge. The car continued to speed down the road, so there was nothing much I could do about it. I could not just jump out of the car, after all, as that would be crazy. I had never seen Nicholas so stubborn before this, so I ran out of ideas. Furthermore, Nicholas said that if I refused to tell him where I was going, we would be heading straight to our hotel once the car reached the viaduct. If that happened, I would not be able to arrive at Regal Hotel to meet with Dominic in half an hour. In the end, I had no choice but to compromise. “Fine, I need to go to Regal Hotel,” I said. I had never been to Yaleview, so I did not know where the hotel was. Thus, I had no idea whether it was far. All I hoped was that even if we could not reach there in half an hour, I would not be too late. I kept checking the time as the car sped down the road. Dominic did not call again. Finally, the car arrived at the Regal Hotel entrance. I believed that we were right on time. I grabbed the car door handle and said, “I'll get off first. Thank you for sending me here. You can leave now and go back with Jake.” “Wait a moment,” Nicholas said. I paused and looked at him, puzzled. He reached into the backseat and grabbed a black travel bag. Then, he opened the travel bag and dug out a black cap and a pair of sunglasses. The sunglasses were large enough to cover half of his face. Why is he taking out his disguise? Does he want to follow me into the hotel and meet Dominic? “What are you-” I said. “Let's go. I'll send you in.” Nicholas opened the door and got out of the car. Before I could react, he grabbed me by my wrist and pulled me out of the car. “Nicholas, what are you doing? Stop fooling around,” I protested. I was on the verge of panic and desperately wished that my shoes had hooks so that I could anchor myself to the ground. That way, Nicholas would not be able to drag me with him. “Can you walk properly? I'm wearing a cap and sunglasses, and it's nighttime, so people won't be able to recognize me,” Nicholas explained. For the first time in my life, I had the urge to beat him unconscious. How could he think that he won't be recognized? In actuality, his disguise made him even more conspicuous and suspicious. He failed to consider that no one in their right mind would wear sunglasses at night. After all, there was no way one could see wearing sunglasses at night. Furthermore, his disguise was equivalent to announcing to the world that he was someone famous trying to hide his identity. Nonetheless, I did not dare fight him because I needed to be careful about my pregnancy. At the same time, I did not want to attract even more attention by struggling against him. In the end, I could not stop Nicholas. I could only keep glancing behind me, hoping that Jake would suddenly appear to stop him. What puzzled me was that Jake did not appear. Usually, he would be the first to stop Nicholas from doing something like this. Since there was no one to help me, I could only rely on myself. Unfortunately, the moment I looked in front again, I saw Dominic walking out from the hotel's revolving door with a sullen expression. Damn it. The more I fear something, the more likely it happen. My goodness, Dominic can't even wait for a minute? He's standing at the door waiting for me. As I saw him come near, my heart began to beat faster, threatening to jump out of my chest. Soon, Nicholas and I came face to face with Dominic at the hotel entrance. Dominic's gaze was sharp as a knife, making me uncomfortable. “Dominic...” I smiled pleasantly, hoping to appease him. “Come here,” Dominic commanded. I instinctively wanted to go to him when I heard his stern voice. However, something stopped me.Unfortunately, Nicholas was still holding my hand and refused to let go. I could not resist glancing around discreetly. Luckily, there was no one else at the entrance. “Nicholas, you should leave,” I said. However, Nicholas ignored me and said to Dominic, “Want to grab a drink?” What the heck? Why do you want to drink now? Is it so that you two can fight later? There's no way Dominic will agree. Both of you hate each other. Why would he want to drink with you? That was what I thought. Strangely, that was not what happened because Dominic actually agreed to have a drink with Nicholas. I realized that I had to stop them. Dominic and Nicholas must not go for a drink together. “Nicholas, you have a movie shoot early tomorrow morning, so you should go back early to rest. Dominic, I would like to speak to you. Let's go,” I interrupted them. Both Dominic and Nicholas turned to look at me. Dominic gave me a card and said, “Go to the room and wait for me.” At the same time, Nicholas also gave me a card. “You must be tired after a busy day, so get a room for yourself and rest early.” I was shocked by their response and nearly threw their cards away. Damn it. It seems that Dominic and Nicholas are determined to fight. My thoughts were a mess at that moment.
