The Second Love

Chapter 232 Just A Phone Call

From the recent phone calls, Dominic did not indicate any intention of returning home. Hence, I assumed that he was still busy working. I also did not ask him about Camille. I never expected that he would show up all of a sudden, leaving me in a panic mode. He asked me to wait for him to come pick me up at the filming set. “No, don't come over. I'm busy running errands. Why don't you send me the address of the hotel, and I'll go look for you when I'm done?” I was not ready to update him about the baby, so I did not want to tell him that I was on my way to the hospital. Anyhow, Dominic refused. “It's too troublesome. Just tell me where you are, and I'll come over to pick you up.” I felt my head throbbing. Why is this guy such a stubborn nuisance?“But, I still have a lot to do. You've been on a long haul. Don't tire yourself out. So just go on ahead to the hotel and get a good rest. I'll see you in a bit, all right?” After falling silent for ten seconds, Dominic said, “Liliana, are you hiding something? Where are you now? Are you with Nicholas?” His tone was laced with hostility. Subconsciously, I lifted my head and cast a glance at Nicholas. I wanted to reply to Dominic with a firm no. If I admit that I'm with Nicholas, Dominic will surely go ballistic and interrogate me. I'm not sure if I know how to answer that. Before I could utter my response, Nicholas snatched my phone away. “Nicholas!” Shocked to my wits, I glared at him while he placed the phone to his ear. “Mr. Hartnell, we're shooting an outdoor scene right now. It's inconvenient for you to come over. We're really busy, so I'm going to hang up now.” “Nicholas... You...”He turned to me. “The hospital is just right in front of us. Let's go see the doctor first. If you want to see him thereafter, I can drive you there.” I moved the curtains and looked ahead. Indeed, the hospital was in sight. Fine, I'll just let it be. The baby is my priority. Anything else is secondary. Let's go to the doctor first. When the car pulled over at the entrance, Jake and I got off the car. Nicholas reminded me to be careful. He even requested Jake to take care of me, and for us to give him a call if we needed anything. Although Jake had a sharp tongue, he was actually quite a kindhearted person. With all the reminders from Nicholas, Jake held my arm once we got off the car. I told him I could walk by myself, but he insisted. Upon entering the hospital, he ensured that I took a seat before going off to register for me. Fortunately, it was not a weekend. So, there was no crowd. Soon, Jake got a number. When I got to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, I requested Jake to wait outside before going in alone. After asking a series of questions as well as examining my body, the doctor confirmed that I was pregnant. As for the other matters, the advice was similar to what was offered by the doctor at the filming set. I was told that my womb was not very stable yet. It was best I recuperate on the bed for a longer period of time. As long as there was no bleeding for the next three months, the baby would be fine. It's great that I did not have to report at the office daily. I should get a more comfortable chair and also purchase anti-radiation clothing. With that, I should be able to take care of the child well. I had calculated the dates and knew that I was only two weeks short of completing the first trimester. Everything should be fine as long as I'm more careful. I actually feel all right. Nonetheless, I'm more relieved after visiting the doctor. When I left the doctor's office, Jake was on the phone. As soon as he saw me, he hurried over to assist me to my seat without hanging up. I looked at him, baffled. Why are we sitting down? I'm done with the doctor's visit. He ignored me, and left for the doctor's office. I trailed behind him and overheard him asking the doctor about the things that a pregnant lady should and should not eat, including things to take note of. When he was done, I heard him say over the phone, “Okay, I've asked all the questions you've posted to me. You heard them all, right? If there's nothing else, we'll head back now. Yes, I know. She's right here beside me.” Jake passed me his phone. “Here you go.” I picked it up, only to realize that it was Nicholas. Frankly speaking, I was not surprised at all. After all, there was no one else that could tame Jake. “I just wanted to remind you to walk slowly. Let Jake assist you. I'll be in the car waiting.”I froze briefly before replying, “Oh, okay. We're on our way out.” Nicholas was amazing. Despite being absent physically, he made an effort to check in with the doctor via phone call. We're just friends, but Nicholas is already so worried about me. I wonder how will Dominic react when he finds out that I'm pregnant. As I thought about Dominic, I suddenly felt guilty for what I did. He never liked Nicholas lingering around me. And what did I do? Not only am I with Nicholas, he even answered the phone for me! I bet Dominic is hitting the ceiling. He's probably enraged. I had an idea to give him a call. Even if I could not tell him the truth for now, I reckoned I should not let him blaze with anger. Touching my pockets, I realized that my phone was not with me. Therefore, I returned to the car immediately. Right when I was about to ask Nicholas for my phone, he handed it over.As soon as I switched it on, the notification bar showed close to fifty missed calls from Dominic. Wow, the quality of this phone is superb! It doesn't even heat up considering the number of incoming calls. Seeing that massive missed call list, my fear got the better of me. If I call him now, he'll undoubtedly blast my ears with curses and reprimands. Nicholas interrupted my thoughts, “Just forget it if you aren't going to make any phone calls. I'll drive you to the hotel now. Rest early this evening, and don't even think about joining the film crew tomorrow.” “I can't. How can I draw if I'm absent? As for Dominic...” Before I could finish my sentence, the phone screen lit up. Dominic was calling again. Do I pick it up, or do I not? Pouting, I was in a quandary. “Shall I get it for you?” “No way!” It would have been a ridiculous move if Nicholas were to accept the call on my behalf. Urgh! I'll just take it. Let's see what happens. There's nothing to be afraid of since he's on the other side of the line anyway. Taking a deep breath, I clenched my jaws as I answered the call while shutting my eyes subconsciously. “Hello, um... I...” Dominic's icy cold voice sounded in my ear, “I'm waiting for you at Regal Hotel. You have half an hour to get here.” The disconnect tone sounded before I had a chance to complete my sentence.
