The Second Love

Chapter 228 Superficial World

I raised my hand as I waved the grilled sandwich in hand. “Why are you thanking me? I should be the one thanking you instead for this grilled sandwich.” Nicholas smiled at me. “You're welcome. Enjoy your meal. I have to go and get ready now.” Watching his retreating figure, I was puzzled. What did he mean by that? It didn't take me long to shift my attention back to the grilled sandwich. After a while, the director was shouting for the crew to get ready for filming. It was no wonder that Nicholas was a top actor. Although he had just recovered from his illness, the filming still wrapped up successfully for that day. I wasn't that familiar with the professional terms they used, but at least I could tell that there were barely any retakes required. Just by looking at the director's sweet smile, it was enough to conclude that the filming was a success. Spring was the best season for filming. Everything was lively, and the weather was just nice. Yaleview had always been a city blooming with flowers, and it was the perfect background combined with the visuals. I got even more motivated and inspired to draw. Time flew by when I was this invested in work. Soon, I had been spending almost a week with the film crew already. After finishing the draft for that day, I glanced at the date and suddenly got reminded that Dad and Mom would be going on a trip the next day. This was their first time going on a group trip, and they were heading overseas. I figured it would be better for me to call them. Unexpectedly, after the call was connected, Mom ended the call in a hurry. She told me that she was busy packing, and she wanted to buy some stuff. I could tell that she had a lot on her plate preparing for the trip.I reckoned that she didn't want me to disturb her, so I placed my phone back into my pocket and decided to call them later that night. After packing up my drawing tools, I planned to ask the film crew's logistics support if they needed my help with anything. In fact, I seemed to be the most carefree member of the film crew. I didn't have to act, and I didn't have to take care of anything else either. Once I was done with my drawing, I would be left with nothing else to do. I didn't want to draw any suspicions by finding Nicholas, especially when I know his schedules were always packed. Thus, I tend to hang around the film crew once I was free. I would make sure to not cause them any trouble, and if they needed me to help with anything, I was always more than willing to lend a helping hand. It was a win-win situation for me anyway. Otherwise, I would be gaining a lot of weight by just sitting around and eating.Although I wanted to help, there weren't many opportunities for me to do so. After several attempts in different roles, I found myself to be a pretty decent logistics support. There were four members in the film crew in charge of the logistics support, two guys and two girls. They were always overwhelmed with work, and my volunteering to help them had lessened their burden a lot. All four of them were easygoing people, and they were around my age as well. As such, it didn't take us long to get close. They were newcomers to the film crew. Perhaps it had been too long since the speculations started about my relationship with Nicholas, the four of them believed me when I told them I was the errand girl in the film crew. Heading over to them, I saw that they were packing the supplies they just bought. Thus, I greeted them with a smile and started helping them out. After a while, the guys walked away to get themselves busy with other stuff, leaving me behind with the girls. I was sitting on a small stool as I categorized the supplies accordingly while also listening to Delilah and Serenity's conversation. Delilah Rowland and Serenity Riley were both college graduates. They were also shippers of Nicholas and Scarlett. During our earlier conversations before this, they expressed how lucky they felt to be with their idols in this job. They were both excited to be this close to their idols. Since then, I noticed they would always be talking about Nicholas and Scarlett together. At the moment, they were discussing the perfect time to ask for Nicholas' signature. But I guessed they were still too shy to make the first move. To me, it was just a simple matter. Without thinking about it, I blurted out, “Don't worry about it. I'll get the signature for you two by tomorrow.” In response, they turned around and looked at me with their eyes widened. Almost immediately, they ran toward me and crouched down beside me like two obedient puppies. “Lili, are you for real? Will you really get us the signature? You're not joking, are you?” I laughed upon hearing that. “Of course, I'm not joking. Just wait for tomorrow, I'll get his signature for sure.” They exchanged a look. Serenity looked doubtful. “Lili, it's not that we don't want to believe your words. But Nicholas' manager is a very stern person. We tried several times before this, and he always chased us away. We didn't even get to see Nicholas, let alone getting his signature.” I chuckled. I guess Jake was being overprotective, huh? “He's just anxious about his artist. Anyway, aren't you tired of seeing Nicholas and Scarlett since you come to work every day?” Delilah immediately shook her head. “Never. I can never get tired of looking at them. Besides, it's not like we get to see them up close.”“Lili, let's focus on the main topic. Did you really mean it when you said you'll get us his signature? Can we also ask for Scarlett's signature?” I can get Nicholas' signature for sure, but Scarlett... I think it won't be a problem. She might not like me, but she'll definitely do it to score some brownie points from Nicholas. Anyway, it's just a signature. It isn't that big of a deal. Perhaps it was my confidence that influenced them, they even promised to treat me to a meal if I got the signatures. What a superficial world we're living in! A free lunch comes just like this. The girls were in such a hurry to get the signatures that before I could finish with the stuff I was doing, they were already urging me to come up with the plan. I knew I couldn't convince them otherwise, so I stood up from my small stool. Perhaps I had been sitting for too long, and the small stool was a little too short than usual, but right after I stood up, my head started spinning.Under their shocked gazes, I fell backward.
