The Second Love
Ms. Smith, who was standing right next to me, gestured to me with her eyes. I understood that she was trying to get me to leave. In my head, I agreed with her as well. However, Dominic said, “Didn't you want to meet me, Camille? You don't have to care what others think. Just tell me what's on your mind.” Ms. Smith held me back the moment Dominic finished his sentence. I guessed she was curious to see how Camille would react. I wasn't sure about the rest, but Camille's mental state seemed a little strange. It was as if she had been brought under control. She was no longer asking for me. Instead, she turned around and started talking to Dominic again. However, the conversation kept revolving around the same subject. She wanted Dominic to promise he would marry her and design her wedding gown himself.Dominic was still rather patient at that point. He continued to comfort Camille. However, he never acknowledged her demands. Things were a little tense at the moment. Through a little gap, I could see Camille standing right at the edge. I was scared that she would fall at any time. Minute after minute, her patience wore thin as Dominic refused to give her a direct answer. She brought up my name again, and it seemed like she couldn't hold back this time. She kept asking why I hadn't shown up and even repetitively asked if anyone had approached me or if I had declined her calls. This had to end. Both Ms. Smith and I looked into each other's eyes, and we took a massive leap forward. “Camille Madison, I'm here. What did you want to say to me?” Camille was agitated the moment she saw me. She even begged me to come close to her. This is odd. Why does she want me over? Does she want to speak to me personally? No, I don't want to! Ms. Smith, who was standing behind me, warned me not to get too close. Dominic pulled me directly next to him and suggested, “Will you let me come over, Camille?” Upon hearing that, my heart was racing so fast that it threatened to expunge itself from my orifices. Neither of us can move without the other. Who knows if Camille might suddenly go insane? In the midst of chaos, I hugged Dominic's arms with my hands and told him, “What are you talking about? You can't go over there!” As soon as I spoke, Camille lost it before Dominic could even respond. In her loud and harsh voice, she roared, “Liliana, you little b*tch! Let go of Dom now! He's mine! You have no right to touch him!” I was startled, so I instinctively let go of Dominic. Nevertheless, Camille remained agitated. My actions had triggered her greatly. I panicked as I was worried about her. Only Dominic could calm her down in this situation. “Dominic, quick. Promise her that you will marry her and make her a wedding dress. J-Just tell her you're going to give her the most lavish, romantic, and memorable wedding of her life.” My priority was to save Camille. I wasn't paying attention to Dominic. The only thing I could hear was his frigid voice saying, “I won't marry her.” I was immediately enraged. I pinched his waist mercilessly while panicking. “Are you crazy? She's nearly out of her mind. Can't you just fake it for a while? Say it quickly! I don't know about you, but if she jumps, I'll feel guilty for the rest of my life!” I could see why Camille would go to such lengths. Perhaps she was afraid that the marriage contract would be terminated. Otherwise, there would be no reason for her to keep bringing up the marriage. True enough, Camille gradually calmed down after Dominic unwillingly agreed to marry her. Well, at least she was less maniacal after that. Before I could even take a breath, she started asking for me again. My mind was tense. I was afraid I couldn't stand it any longer if she told me to go over. Thankfully, she didn't do so. She was simply laughing hysterically and bragging about how Dominic no longer wanted me and picked her instead. I had no idea what to do. Should I be depressed? Should I agree with her? Ms. Smith was observant enough to realize that I was disturbed. She whispered into my ear, telling me to let Camille say anything she wanted. She went on to say that if I could keep Camille's attention a little longer, the cops would be there to rescue her soon. Ever since arriving at the rooftop, I was terrified that we wouldn't be able to save her. When I heard that help was on the way, I felt a huge sense of relief wash over me. “Have you moved on, Liliana? Only I will be Dom's bride. You're just a pawn in his game.” I dared not to pause for even a second. I immediately nodded, implying that Dominic was hers. At that moment, I noticed a head arising from behind Camille. From the look of his shoulder, the person was wearing a green shirt. Thankfully, help had arrived. We were eventually able to call it a day. I felt safer at this time. Camille's life was clearly in good hands. Moreover, Dominic and I successfully persuaded Camille. Even her demeanor had changed dramatically. Who knows, we might be able to persuade her even more in order to bring her down. In that instant, Camille made a new demand. She insisted on holding Dominic's hand. My unsettling heart began to race once more. If they were to hold hands, wouldn't he have to approach her? I wanted to hold Dominic back. However, remembering Camille's reaction when I held him before, I decided not to do it again. Since I couldn't physically touch him, I could only make eye contact with him to indicate my objection. Dominic was initially unconvinced. Also, I could tell by his look that he had a clear idea of what to do in this particular situation. I couldn't hear what Mr. Johnson said to Dominic. Still, Dominic nodded and agreed after hearing from Mr. Johnson, who was standing next to him.I became anxious right away. “No. You can't go over there. It's far too dangerous.” Dominic did not look back at me, though he heard what I said. “Don't worry. I'll go over there and grab her. There are cops behind me. I'll be okay.” I looked around again. Sure enough, there were cops everywhere. However, no one could guarantee that accidents would not occur. All I knew was that I couldn't stop what would follow next. After they exchanged eye contact, Ms. Smith and Mr. Johnson reached out to me and pulled me over. She comforted me and told me everything would be all right. Dominic began to slowly approach Camille while I was trembling with fear. They seemed to be moving closer and closer to each other. Dominic only had to extend his arm to grab Camille. An accident occurred at this exact minute. Camille slipped, and she plummeted swiftly down the building. With Dominic clutching her hands, he fell along too. I lost control and screamed, “Dominic!”
