The Second Love

Chapter 169 Just Like Always

The knock caused both of us to stop what we were doing. He raised his eyebrow and asked, “You just arrived yesterday, and you already seduced someone?” I grabbed a pillow and stuffed it in his face. “You're the one that's going around seducing people, not me. It should be Xenia and Jennie at the door. We agreed yesterday to go shopping today. You should get the door and tell them that I'll see them in a while.” Looking down at my state of undress, it was obvious we couldn't let anyone in. Dominic didn't say a word in response. Instead, he got up and went for the door. Wrapping myself up in the blanket, I figured I would not be able to join them on their trekking trip anymore, mostly because Dominic's arm hadn't recovered. Otherwise, I would have dragged him along with us.In fact, he was a lot more experienced in it than I was. Staring at the bunch of stuff on the couch, I began to regret spending so much money the day before. Just when I was lamenting my shrinking wallet, I heard Xenia yelling, “Liliana, we'll wait for you in our room. You guys... Haha! You can take your time.” What? What does she mean by taking our time? Suddenly, it dawned on me. Dominic Hartnell! Damn it! The sight of him must have caused them to say that. In fact, their imagination must be running wild now. Even when I thought about it myself, I cringed at how much it felt like a trashy romantic film. By then, Dominic had come back to my side and stopped teasing me. Instead, he even handed me my clothes. “Since when did you become so close to them?”While putting my clothes on, I replied, “We're not that close. I just ran into them by coincidence yesterday. In fact, they even helped me get this room.” “Did you buy all this stuff? Are you planning on going trekking alone?” When I followed the trail of his gaze, I could feel my heart ache again. I replied in resignation, “That was the plan, but instead of going alone, I was going to join Xenia and her friends. However, I guess it's not going to happen now.” Dominic sounded shocked. “How can someone like you who isn't physically fit go trekking? Are you trying to kill your friends or yourself?” I was pissed by his words. Putting on my jacket, I jumped off the bed barefooted and confronted Dominic. “What do you mean? Are you looking down on me? Why can't I go trekking?” Dominic burst into hearty laughter. “It seems that you have forgotten your past experience. It was bad enough that you sabotaged me last time. So please don't go on sabotaging others.” Just when I wanted to retort, I realized that he was right. Knowing me inside out, he rightly pointed out that I was terrible at outdoor activities. Nevertheless, I snapped back at him defiantly, “Sheesh, I don't want to discuss this with you. Besides, I'm not planning to go.” I sighed. Looks like everything that I have bought will be going to waste. Dominic put his arms around me as we sat down on the couch. “Why not? Haven't you already bought your gear?” I was surprised at how quickly he changed his mind. Just a moment ago, he was persuading me not to hold anyone back by going. “Because you're here. Furthermore, you don't want me to go, do you?” Dominic replied as a matter-of-factly, “Of course, it's not a good idea for you to go alone. However, I am coming with you this time.” I glanced at his arm which was still in an arm sling. “Forget it. Your arm hasn't recovered yet. What happens if you get hurt? Besides, I decided to go on a whim. It's not like I'm really interested.” In truth, I still felt like going. However, now that Dominic was here, I didn't want him to injure himself a second time. “I'll inform Xenia about it and give them a treat tonight. Yesterday, both of them spent a lot of time accompanying me shopping.” After giving it some thought, I added, “Are you in a hurry to return? If not, why don't we stay for two days since we're already here?” Dominic nodded and smiled at me affectionately. “Whatever you say.” I swooned when I felt the familiarity of his response. Back then, this was how he always pampered me. “Dominic, I realized that I'm starting to like you a little like how I did in the past.” Raising his eyebrows, he sounded slightly upset when he said, “Just a little? And you only like me? Aren't you supposed to love me wholeheartedly?” Briefly stunned, I tsk-tsked at him. “How shameless can you be?” Letting out a mischievous smile, he gently bit my lips. “Who's the shameless one now? You'd better be careful, or else I'll make sure you won't be able to crawl out of bed.” Gulping by reflex, I pacified him, “Me, I'm the shameless one. Haha.” “Looks like you know what's good for you.” When I realized he was off my case, I wiped the cold sweat off my brow. Damn it, that was really frightening. “Anyway, I bought some food. Do you want to eat something first?” “Yes.” I was famished. When Dominic brought over the food, I saw that there were some sandwiches. However, they were already cold. After taking a few bites, I didn't feel like finishing them. “They're no longer delicious when cold. Let's go meet up with Xenia before going out to get a light bite. After that, we'll give them a treat in the evening. How about that?” “Sure. As you wish.” I couldn't help but smile, as it felt just like the old days. Dominic would never say no to me when he treated me nicely. Holding hands, both of us went to see Xenia and Jennie. After I told them that I couldn't go trekking with them, they didn't make a fuss and even invited me to join them next time. When I asked them to come along with us to town, both of them declined as they didn't want to be the third wheel. Despite feeling embarrassed, I was still delighted by the fact that others now saw Dominic and me as a couple. Hence, we set a time and place for our meal before exchanging contacts. After that, Dominic and I headed out. The simple act of holding hands with Dominic while strolling down the quiet historical streets brought joy to my heart. Back then, Dominic and I promised that we would get married after graduation. After that, we would wake up in each other's arms, kiss each other at sunrise, stroll against the backdrop of a sunset, and hold each other to sleep underneath the moonlight. Every single day we were alive, we would spend it with each other. By the time we could celebrate our sixtieth wedding anniversary, we would no longer have any regrets. Although our journey was interrupted, perhaps it's still not too late for us to get back on track. With that thought in mind, I couldn't help but giggle to myself. Dominic then tapped me lightly on my head. “Silly girl, what are you laughing about?”
