The Second Love
When I saw the insidious look on Dominic's face, I couldn't help but tremble. Recalling the passionate night we had spent, I tightened my grip on my blanket. “Dominic, don't come over. Just stay where you are.” However, since when did he ever listen to me? Maintaining his evil smile, he gradually approached me. “How can I not come over? Given how obvious you're making it, and the fact that we have reconciled, it would be an insult to me if you're not satisfied.” I felt like slapping myself at that moment. Without even thinking, I replied, “Of course not. I'm satisfied. Very satisfied.” The traces of passion he had left on my body were enough to prove my point. Furthermore, if he were to continue for a few more sessions, I wouldn't have even been able to walk. Sitting down by the bed, Dominic extended his hand and pulled me together with the blanket toward him. With a serious tone, he asked, “You're satisfied? Explain to me how satisfied you are.” With my face blushing intensely, I simply felt bewildered. How can he look so serious while asking me such a dirty question? “Quit messing around and stop asking me such frivolous questions.” Looking at me sternly, Dominic quipped, “It's fine if you don't want to tell me now. You can do so later while we're doing it.” I was utterly flabbergasted by his response. Before I could recover from my shock, Dominic already reached out to me and attempted to pull my blanket away. “Come on, Baby!”Amidst my surprise and delight, I forgot to avoid his advances. In fact, I was relishing in bliss. “Dominic, what did you just call me?” Raising his eyebrows, he let out an alluring smile, “Baby.” Baby... It's been a long time since I heard him call me so. Back then, when we were head over heels in love, he loved to call me “Baby.” In the beginning, I felt cringey when I heard it. But once I got used to it, it was music to my ears. In a moment of impulse, I threw my arms around Dominic's neck. “In that case, are we really getting back together?” Visibly agitated, Dominic snapped, “Did you think I was joking?” Pondering a moment, I ignored Dominic's displeasure and asked, “Can I ask you some questions?” Feeling further upset, he snarled, “Didn't you question me enough yesterday?” I retorted, “I barely asked you anything.” The night before, his demeanor shifted from being frosty to fiery. Hence, I hardly had the chance to question him at all. Despite his gloomy expression, he didn't deny my request. Hence, I seized the rare opportunity. Clearing my throat, I asked, “If there's nothing going on between you and Camille, why did you go to Anglandur with her? During the past five years you were together, is it true that nothing happened between the two of you? The last time I saw both of you, you were even taking pre-wedding photos.” In the face of Dominic's scrutiny, I bit my lip and defiantly locked my gaze with him. I was aware of how stubborn I was behaving, but anyone in my position would likely react the same way. In truth, I didn't mind the fact that Dominic was with someone else after we broke up.After all, he was a grown man and had his needs. Having a new girlfriend was reasonable after all. Besides, I had gotten married and divorced during that period. However, the thought that Camille was possibly his girlfriend just ate at me. Furthermore, he had mentioned that he would marry Camille on more than one occasion. In fact, Camille had even gone on to try her wedding dress. Therefore, my doubts were entirely reasonable. Dominic appeared to be further angered. His tone became icy while his gaze began to darken. “Didn't I already tell you that there's nothing going on between Camille and me? If you don't believe me... So what if I tell you there is something between us? What are you going to do about it? Wave your hands and bid me goodbye?” Stunned, I shook my head subconsciously. “No, that's not what I meant. It's just that...” Just what? At that moment, I was confused. I realized that it wasn't worth breaking up with him over something that happened in the past. Upon deeper consideration, it dawned on me that any further questioning was meaningless. I would naturally be happy if nothing happened between them. But if there was, I would be devastated. In the end, I would still be the one feeling unhappy. Hence, going around looking for misery seemed to be a futile endeavor. I raised my gaze to look at him. “Just forget that I ever asked. Let the past stay in the past. What matters now is the present and the future. Can you do it?” After a long silence, Dominic replied, “Liliana, I just have one question for you.” “What is it?” Despite my calm exterior, my heart was filled with anxiety. “Do you trust me?”After a momentary pause, I nodded with conviction. “I do.” He patted me on my head and remarked, “That's all that matters. What happened between Camille and me was initiated by our elders. It's not like there's really anything going on. Anyway, I will deal with it properly. All you need to do is remember one thing. The last time you left was an accident. From now on, I will not let you leave my side even if I'm headed to purgatory.” I stared intently at Dominic. Despite how eerie his words sounded, they somehow overwhelmed me with bliss. Fine, given the situation, there's nothing more to say about the matter. I stepped forward and gave Dominic a kiss. Squinting my eyes, I asserted, “Remember what you have just said. Even if you don't take me with you, I will not let go of your hands. With the heavens bearing witness, neither of us is allowed to break our promise.” Dominic continued to stare intently at me as a devilish smile emerged on his face.“Okay. However, I need some incentives.” Jolted by his words, I grabbed onto my blanket, feeling both amused and angry. “What incentives? Haven't I given you everything? Dominic, since when did you turn into a sex maniac?” Just when I was about to get into a struggle with Dominic, we heard a sudden knock on the door.
