You Were Warned
Pierre parked the truck, identical to the location in my dream. As Pierre was getting the gear ready for the day hike, I spotted the tree with the bear claw mark. Placing my hand over the marking it hummed under my touch. Noticing what I was doing, “Are things starting to come back to you?” Pierre asked as he strolled towards me. I bobbed my head, “It is like I am relieving the whole thing over again. Follow me!” I was the first to enter the woods. I walked the same path that was taken in my dream. We came to the clearing where everyone had set up their tents in my dream. Pointing, “This is where I would have set up camp!” Pierre exclaimed. I let out a little chuckle, “Funny that you said that because that is what we did in my dream.” I said as we both heard movement behind us. “They are here?” Pierre moved closer to me. Looking around the area, “Yeap! And they are watching us with great detail.” I spotted flashes of black blobs moving from one tree to the next. “Just like in my dream, I can not fully see them nor hear everything they are saying.” I placed my hand over my right ear, “it is like a bunch of birds chattering at the same time, I can not make out what they are saying!” Pierre grunted and brought a protective arm around me. “They would not do a thing until they are given the order to do so!” I said as I shuffled the bag on my back. “Chaos’ rules are easy to follow … walk the land, enjoy the environment and leave before the sun sets!” “Is that all!” Pierre was roughly chuckling, “We are only going to travel the land … with a great deal of respect!” Pierre said as he started to move forwards. It was more directed towards what was following us. I studied the landscape when I spotted a figure that I thought I recognized. Straining my sight I was starting to give myself a headache. Pierre placed his hand on my shoulder. Closing my eyes I allowed myself to calm down. Feeling the energy that was around this location. Opening my eyes, “Pierre?” “Yeah?” His full focus was on me. “Let’s go this way!” I started to move in the direction of where the figure had once been.Once we passed the tree line, dodging trees, “What did you see?” Pierre asked. “I am not sure!” I started off, weaving and dodging trees, “I thought I spotted Sadragon!” “Who?” Pierre asked as he followed close behind me. I explained who Sadragon was and what he meant to him. In a small clearing I stopped and looked down to the ground. “Where is your protection pendant I made you?” Sighing, “I have to admit … I lost it a couple of weeks ago.” I bent over and picked up that pendent, “that is because it is here!” I showed it to Pierre. “Okay!” Pierre dropped the bag to the ground, “We need to stop! My mind needs to catch up to everything that is going on!” Pierre was in the crouch position. Breathing in and out, I looked him over. “You are freaking out!” “No, I am not freaking out,. my mind just doesn’t want to accept what is happening!” He was now pacing. I glanced up at the canopy, “you know what?” Pierre was strolling in circles, “What are you thinking Merna?” He strolled over to his bag, “Water?” He pulled out a bottle. “Sure, I could use some water!” Took the offered bottle of water. “I do not think it was a dream!” I filled my mouth with water. “I think it happened but somehow Chaos sent me back. To a point that nothing that we went through happened. I think that I am the warning and it is up to you to decide what you do!” I took another mouth full of water. “Or there is another thought … parallel events!” “There are always going to be things that we will never understand. It is just the will of the universe and its glory.” Pierre emptied his bottle of water. “For one second I am going to pretend that what you say was an event that happened in a different reality. Chaos was a bloody fool for sending you back!” I started to laugh my arse off. “Sometimes the reason why I do not or can’t say what is going to happen, is because there are different paths that can be taken.” I took the time to catch my breath and regain my self control. “I believe this is one of those situations.” I glanced over at Pierre, “for Chaos …” “I am not joking Merna, he is a bloody fool and I hope he regrets his actions.!” Pierre was angry enough for the both of us. I started to howl with laughter, “I would love for you to say that to him!” Bronkes stopped our conversation with his continued barking.Yelling, “Bronkes shut up!” Pierre said to his dog. Focusing my eyes, “He is here!” I could see Sadragon perfectly. Pierre was studying the whole area, “Who?” “Sadragon!” I kept my eyes on him. I thought I spotted a mixture of sadness and anger. “I can not see him!” Pierre was straining his eyes trying to see what I could. I rubbed my hands together, “Kneel on the ground!” I strolled over to him. Pierre was not understanding my actions, “Why?” “You are taller than me … just go with it please!” I was going to try something that is new to me. Pierre did as I said, “look towards Bronkes!” I ordered Pierre. I placed my fingers on Pierres temples while I was standing behind him. Focusing my mind to open to Pierre allowing him sight. Pierre jumped up, “was that …?” I tumbled backwards a bit. Chuckling, “What did you see?” Pierre described what Sadragon looked like, “is that what he appears to you as?” Pierre asked me. “Is he still here? Can I see him again?” “On your knees!” I ordered Pierre as I laughed. For the longest time Pierre started at Sadragon. For once able to see the other side, even if it was with my help. ‘Mate!’ I could hear Sadragon in my mind, ‘you have to leave soon it will be dark out.’ I looked around and realised that time had slopped passed us without me even knowing about it. “Pierre, we have to go!” I whispered. Getting up from the ground, “I know I heard Sadragon!” Stomping through the wood, we soon came to the truck. Before getting into the truck, “I have a mate!” I opened the truck door, “Yes!” I nodded once. “Bronkes!” He jumped into the back seat! “The only thing stopping us from being together is a portal?” Pierre opened the truck door and got in.Following suit, I continued to speak. ”to sum it up … yes!” I closed the door as Pierre started up the engine. *** The drive to the cabin was silent. Both Peirre and I were lost in thoughts. Like a robot I moved around the site absent minded. Feeling as if a part of me was missing. The aching in my chest was intensifying. The fire was crackling dancing in all directions. The sounds of wolves howling to the stars. Pierre was glaring at the fire as I was, “can you tell me again how Sadragon and I became together?” He broke the silence between the both of us. I explained everything that I knew, “that is the jist of it all … a lot of the time we were not together. I can not tell you what happened then.” Pierre drinked the liquid that was in his cup, “If I stay … Will I become like Sadragon?” “I would assume that! Sadragon seemed to recognize you right away. I think it is because you are mates.” I could feel where this conversation was going to lead us. There was a loud roar, “I think that was a bear!” Pierre twisted his body in the direction he thought the noise was coming from. Placing the cup to my lips, “No,” I filled my mouth and knew who it was, “that would have been Chaos pitching a fit!” I glanced over at Pierre, I could see in my mind's eye what was going to happen. I smiled at him as realization sunk in. The smile disappeared! Studying me, “What?” Pierre had concern in his tone. Sighing, “You are going to stay here, it is your fate!” I finished my cup of liquid. “Regardless of what path was to be taken … you will always find your way here. The bond between you and Sadragon will draw you closer. Even if he doesn’t remember what happened!” “What about you?” Pierre was getting ready to make himself another cup of coke and rum. “I do not belong anywhere?” I started to chuckle, “It seems as though fate does not like to make plans for me!” I glanced at my empty cup, “just several paths that lead everywhere … mixed up puzzle pieces that I have to figure out!” I tried to seem chipper but sadness coated every word I said. “It would have been nice to have a set path to follow. Even if I decided not to take it. Having one meant I was supposed to be somewhere…not just be.” Pierre got up to get a refill, “want more while I am up?”Handing him my cup, “after today … I need it!” “So …” Pierre began as he filled our cups up. “A spell was cast on that medallion that was around my neck. I was meant to forget. And judging by how Sadragon responded to seeing us.” I paused as Pierre handed me the cup. “Everyone else was to forget as well.” *** We had stopped at the gas station to fill up. as we were finishing up at the pumps, Pierre’s phone started to ring. “Hello!” Pierre answered his phone, “yes I remember who you are!” Pierre was giving me the look to tell me that it was Steve on the other line. “It is funny you mention that, I am at the location now, my friend and I scanned the land.” Pierre was listening to what Steve had to say. “I think you might want to listen to what my friend has to say, my friend Merna, she has special gifts.” Pierre paused, “You should listen to what she has to say about this place!” Pierre handed the phone to me with a wicked grin on his face. “Hello Steve!” I said when the speaker was close to my mouth. “Hello!” I could hear him say to me. “I know you do not know me but you do not want to come here. The land is … for lack of better words…cursed.” There was laughter on the other line, “I do not know what kind of gifts you have but I do not believe in curses.” “I know this might sound nuts but you have to listen to me. If you come here, you are going to die!” I never was good at communications when I was starting to feel overwhelmed. “Look lady!” Steve started off. I have been known to cut people off when I want to make a point. “Steve, you will come here with your brother Markous, his girlfriend Emma and Camile. Pierre will show you the location where you will set up your tents and you will never leave the woods ever again!” I told him the shorter version knowing he was not going to listen to me. Just like the other path I had experienced. Steve’s laugh was dry, “I do not believe a word that you are saying!” Frowning I glared at my feet, “I did not think you would! At least I can say that I warned you!” “Look lady!” I could tell that Steve was done with my conversation.“Remember the name Anatu when you are brought out of the kennel … say the name to the Master!” I said before I handed the phone back to Pierre, “I will give you back to Pierre!” Pierre finished the rest of his conversation before he came back to me. I had been sitting in the car waiting patiently hoping that Steve would listen to my warning. “It is all set up! The money is being deposited into my account tomorrow morning.” Pierre hit the top of my car. Glaring into the abyss, “I warned him!” I said with no emotions. Patting the top of the car three times, “You did!” Motioning to see Pierre, “You are still going to go through with this?” Pierre had a big grin on his face, “I would not miss this opportunity for nothing!” Pierre took one glance around the area. Placing my hands on the steering wheel, “Coffee?” Pierre got his hands positioned to close the car door. “It is a thirty minute drive to the closest Tim Hortons!” Closing the door, “See you there!” I yelled at him. I could feel the hairs on the back of my neck standing up. Glancing down at my arm, I noticed how my arm hairs were standing up too. I turned the key, ‘you have been warned!’ Chaos’s voice was in my head. Looking into the rearview mirror, I could see Chaos standing in the tree line. Pivoting my body in the driver's seat, there he was standing glaring at me with red eyes. My tone was sad, my chest ached more seeing him. ‘I know!’ I linked him back. Pierre was the first to pull out onto the road with me following behind him. ‘I wonder if Chaos even remembers?’ I thought to myself as my eyes started to water up.
