You Were Warned
I spent the night tossing and turning, memories of an event running its course. The sun was not up when I jumped out of bed and ran to my laptop. Typing in key words I started my search. Names, dates and locations of people that had gone missing. I started to print the missing ads one after another. Then I started to google Steve and Markous Weston, they were very similar in appearance as the dream I had. Then there was Camile White, again similar. The last individual I did a search on was Emma Williams, her facebook profile picture was similar as well. I remember seeing a road sign that read ‘Upper Paudash’. Using google maps, zooming in I followed the road and found the building structures from the dream. I tried to breathe but the air was stuck in my lungs. I was not able to move from my spot, my eyes glued on to the screen. After the numbness started to drift out of my body I ran to my room to find my phone. Rushing back to my desk I pulled up my business website. With a quick search to see if there were many orders, there were twenty-three items I had to send out. The one order would be easy to fill out since a customer ordered a lot of the same items just different colours. Placing my business on vacation mode, I got to work on the orders. As I worked on placing the items properly into the boxes, I used my mind to get my travelling bag ready and placed at the door. Shoving my phone in my coat pocket, I went through a mental checklist to make sure I had everything. My laptop was the last thing I needed to grab along with the printed pages of missing people. Glancing down the hallway of my apartment building, I made sure no one was able to see me. Carrying my back on my back, laptop and pages in my hand, I used my mind to move the five boxes I planned to bring with me. Mailing off everything, I ran to my car and called Pierre while I was on the road. After a few rings Pierre answered, “Eh trouble!” I placed the phone on speaker, “Are you home now?” “Yes I am! You are still coming, right?” It sounded as if Pierre was walking in the bushes. Pulling out into traffic, “I am heading there now! You are not going to believe what I have to tell you!” “OH really do tell!” Pierre was chuckling on the other side. I did not forget any details of what I had seen, “it felt so real, like when I astral project my body out into the universe realm … but … this was as if I was actually there … like living there!” Pierre listened to my whole story without saying a word, for a second I thought he was going to send me to the loonie bin. Pierre cleared his throat, “I was not going to tell you because, well I was not going to ask you to come. I do not think that was just an ordinary dream nor astral projection there Merna.” “Okay!” I was paying attention to the car ahead of me while the light was red. “Steven Weston called me to book an appointment with me! His brother Markous … owns a plot of land, take a lucky guess where!” “SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!” I gasped, “This is getting weird! Even for me this is weird!” I could tell that Pierre had stopped walking, “Are you … are you driving?” “Focus Pierre! I have some crazy ass shit going on and I am freaking the fuck out here!” I scolded him. “This is what you are going to do …” Pierre started off, “you are not in the right headspace, I am going to hang up and you are going to drive safely and get your ass here!” He paused, “I am walking back to my place, I should be there in no time!” *** I pulled up to Pierre’s house, turning off the engine to the car, I opened the door. I was greeted by a four legged canine beauty, “hello Bronke … where is your daddy?” The front door was opened with Pierre walking out onto the steps. “You got here in good time, no issues on the road I take?” Grabbing my bag from the passenger seat, I continued the conversation. “green lights all the way here. I might have used my mind to manipulate things.” I started to laugh, “I think you are right, I am getting better!” I closed the car door, “What would normally take two hours to get here took a little over an hour!” Pierre took my bag from my hands, “dinner will be ready in thirty minutes, make yourself comfortable.” “Do you have a bottle of the good stuff? I am going to need it to tell you what I dreamt of!” I asked as I strolled into the house. Closing the door, “You know where it is!” Pierre had been taking my bag to his spare room. I make a glass of rum and coke for the both of us. Placing his glass on a coaster on the table closest to his chair. I sat down waiting for him to enter the living room. While we were waiting for the food to finish I started to tell the parts of the story I remembered. Only taking a break to eat, then I started up again.“Okay the only way that we will know for sure if this is real is if we take a road trip.” Pierre said as he stood up to refill his glass. “I am not saying that … you know! I want to make sure about everything.” “Things are still foggy, there are things that just do not add up!” I glanced at the door expecting it to open. “That is why I grabbed my bag and made arrangements to stay in a cabin near the location. It is out of season, but with a little bit of …” I allowed flames to show up in my hand, “magic and persuasion … the owner agreed.” Plopping down in his seat, “we will take my truck!” “No, you take your truck and I will drive my car! I have an uneasy feeling about going on this trip. If something happens to one of the vehicles, we have the other to rely on.” Pierre leaned forwards in his chair, “What if both are damaged?” “Then it appears we are fucked!” I finished off my glass. Pointing at my glass, “you want a refill?” “Nah!” I got up, “I think I have had enough, besides I want to leave as soon as possible in the morning!” “You have been hanging out with me too much!” Pierre said as I was heading to the kitchen. *** After five gruelling hours of driving we finally got to the cabin that I had rented. It was a small two bedroom cabin, nothing special. It had a wonderful view of the lake but besides that nothing that would make it stand out. Dropping everything off at the cabin we went on a search to buy food. By the time we got back to the cabin and ate the food we had bought, the sun had pretty much set and the stars were coming into full view. Pierre took out his telescope and set it up to take pictures of the stars and full moon. The sound of insects and the crackling fire was soothing. Still looking at the stars with the telescope, “What are you thinking about Merna?” My sight was locked on the fire pit, “I am just replaying the dream, if it was even that!” Chuckling, “We will check things out in the morning …. Respectfully … and then we will figure things out from there.” Pierre brought his attention to me. Glancing at him, “That sounds like a plan!” I forced a smile on my face.*** Pierre was already up and had a fire going before I even rolled out of bed. To say that I slept well would have been a lie. I kept on hearing voices all night long. They kept on calling my name. Wanting to know what happened and why I am back. “Morning sleepy head!” Pierre looked up from the fire, “coffee will be ready in a moment!” “The nectar of the gods!” I said as I sat down in the chair close to the fire. He was still crouched near the fire pit. “Where do we have to go from here?” Stretching, “You remember the gas station?” I yawned. Pierre kept looking at the fire as he poked it with a stick, “Yeap!” Yawning again, “We have to drive there but before the gas station there will be a road on the left that we need to turn on to.” “Coffee first, food next … then we will leave!” Pierre said as he handed me a steaming cup of coffee, “Bronkes!” From the bushes Bronkes came running with his tail wagging back and forth. “What a good boy you are!” I said as he sat near my feet. “Have you fed him?” “Did that before I started the fire. Do you think we should take him?” Pierre had a questionable expression on his face. I hummed, “I do not see why not! He would love the freedom to roam.” Rubbing the back of Bronke’s head, “You do not think that … you know who will take my dog?” He inquired. “Pierre I …” I started. Smiling down at me, “Eh when it comes to you and your abilities … I have never questioned them. Yes this situation is weird but there is something behind this that you are not remembering.” I inhaled, “I just can not figure everythings out!” I exhaled. “Nah, you can not remember things in order. Or something is missing from your memory. It is normal for us to forget things. We can’t remember everything!” Pierre pointed out, “Besides once we get there, things may jog your memory!” “True!” I replied to Pierre, when I thought I had heard my name.“Did you hear that?” Both Peirre and I said at the same time. ***
