Revenge of the Rejected
Charles wondered what exactly he needed to do and how much benefits he and Mr. Grayson would get for a business trip to have been mentioned. “We would have gone together, but right now, I have a lot on my table.” “It’s fine. I’m all ears.” “There’s this man, called Alaric Dane. He is a multi-billionaire who owns many lands, companies, cruise ships, etc. I need to get him to buy a land of mine which is at Chicago where he is.” Charles leaned against his chair with keen interest as he wanted to understand where Mr. Grayson was heading to. “If he buys that land, the money that comes from it would be used to make these special robots in bulk as I have just signed a deal of sending about a thousand of these robots to an influential man.” Mr. Grayson explained. “Alright?” “But Mr. Dane is very obstinate. It takes a lot to persuade him to do something, or you might not be successful at all. I have been trying to make him buy my land, but it hasn’t worked, but I believe you can make it work.” Mr. Grayson said, with confidence. Charles thought about it briefly, and the other things he had to achieve. It seemed like a hard decision to make. “If you need time to think about it, I will give you the time, but I need you to get back to me before the end of they day, Technically, before 12am. I got to go.” Mr. Grayson said, then hung up. Charles leaned back on his chair, and exhaled sharply. Vera was still standing before him, wondering what exact conversation had gone on between he and Mr. Grayson. “Is there anything wrong?” She asked, out of curiosity. “Nothing much. I just need to make a decision on something really quick.” Charles replied, staring into blank space but critically thinking on what to do. “Mind if you share?” Vera asked, feeling concerned about what could make Charles think this much. “Well, Mr. Grayson asked me to go on a business trip to persuade Mr. Dane to buy his land. And if Mr. Dane buys that land, it would be a huge success for us, and I’ll be recognized and respected more.” Charles revealed.“Then you can accept it.” “It’s not as easy as you think, Vera. I have to be certain that my plans are still intact. The court will not always wait for us at our convenient time, and we can’t always say we’ll be lucky at anytime we are ready to strike.” Charles replied worriedly. Vera knew that at this point, there was nothing she could do to hep than to allow him think about what he felt was best. She knew that he didn’t want to miss the court day and had been waiting for this day to come just so he could take back his mother’s properties back from his father. She hoped that he would figure things out soon as she knew that Charles’ ego would be hurt if Mr. Grayson should see him as incapable. Then she left his office to leave him in peace. As soon as she got out of his office, she noticed James walking towards her direction. “I hope you’re not planning to go in?” “Why? Is anything wrong? Or does he have an important visitor?” James asked, inquisitively. “None of that is happening, but I think he needs a time alone to think about what decision he would make, concerning Mr. Grayson’s offer.” Vera said as she made her way out of Charles’ office floor. James followed her to get the full information on what was going on, and they talked until she got to her own office. “So, he has to think deeply. I feel all he just needs to do is to strategize on how to get that deal before the court day.” James suggested. “Well, that might be what he plans to do, but you know it is going to take him a while to draft out his plans. Right now, we just have to hope that he does well, or we’ll lose Mr. Grayson’s trust. It’s hard to get a man like Mr. Grayson to have interest in whatever you have to offer.” Vera uttered, and sighed. “You are right.” CHARLES HOME It was evening already, and Charles was still thinking of what answer to give to Mr. Grayson. He had weighed out the risks of not getting the deal, and the risk of losing worth before Mr. Grayson if he rejects this. He exhaled sharply, and sighed as he leaned on the railings of his balcony. Then a call came in from James, and he answered it, feeling that it could be important as well. “I heard from the cops that they heard from a few people that Mark was seen around an area, so they have decided that they will leave early tomorrow and investigate quietly so that if truly Mark is there, he would be caught unawares.” James reported formally. “That’s more like good news. Tell them to proceed with caution, because I didn’t think it would be that easy, getting news of Mark. They have to be certain it’s not a trap or sort.” Charles instructed over the phone. “I’ll let them know about that. Although, they sent proof of the people sighting Mark. I got the photos, and I just sent then to you.” Charles checked the photos, and noticed they were shots taken without the person who seemed to look like Mark’s knowledge. He zoomed in closely, and noticed that there were some scars there which Mark definitely didn’t have. “Tell them it’s not Mark. It’s either a trick to fool them or those who alerted the cops also got mistaken that the man was Mark.” Charles corrected, and sipped his wine. “Noted. By the way, soon, it’ll be a new day. Have you decided on what to do, concerning Mr. Grayson’s offer?” James asked, out of concern. Charles let out a deep sigh, and placed his glass of wine on the rail. “Well, I think I’m left with just one decision, which is to go on the business trip. But I don’t know what that trip beholds of me. I have a feeling I have to be very careful.”
