Revenge of the Rejected
Chapter Seventy Charles stood up, and clasped his fingers with a smile on his face. “Wow. What brings you here to my office, Mrs. Adam?” Charles asked as he tapped his fingers on his table. Mrs. Adam was quite surprised at how Charles had changed the company in just a few weeks of possession. It was much better than when she was still in power. And what was more surprising was how he looked really wealthy and powerful. But then, she didn’t expect him to welcome her with a smile, and that made her confidence shatter. But she tried to regain her confidence back as she needed it to speak with him, concerning their affairs. “Have your seat, please.” Charles urged as he joined her in the center of the office, then sat down. Mrs. Adam sat down quietly, and moistened her lips as she got herself ready to speak. “So, how may I help you, Mrs. Adam?” “It’s quite weird of you calling me that right now, but anyways, I have come here to speak to you about something.” Mrs. Adam spoke out. “Uhm… Let me get you something to drink. I’ll be right back.” Charles excused herself as he cut her halfway. Mrs. Adam gulped down her saliva, and looked around while Charles was gone. She began to wonder if she would be able to convince him to buy the company which was already in bankruptcy due to Mark’s incompetence, and Angela’s exorbitant attitude. She smacked her lips, sighed, and placed her hand on her forehead like she was having a headache thinking about all her grandchildren had done and gotten into. Then Charles came back with two glasses of juice, and he offered her one, and sipped his, then leaned on the chair, ready to listen to whatever she had to say. “Alright, I’m listening. I’m all ears.” Charles said, with a smile. Mrs. Adam wasn’t totally comfortable with the way he welcomed her warmly which wasn’t quite what she expected, but she had no choice than to take advantage of the warm situation right now before Charles resumed back to his coldness. “I have a proposition to make, Charles.” Mrs. Adam began, and adjusted herself on her seat.“Alright, I’m all ears.” “I want to give you an opportunity to marry Angela if only you can give us back our company. We will forget everything that happened between us and you’ll come back to the family.” Mrs. Adam laid out her plan. Charles chuckled lightly, and scoffed in disbelief. He couldn’t bring himself to believe of how she could say such a thing without feeling ashamed. “I’m not interested in your offer, Mrs. Adam. You want me to get married to that blood sucking human you call a grand-daughter? No, no, no. I can’t do that.” Charles declined, still chuckling lightly. “What!” Mrs. Adam exclaimed lightly, trying her best not to ruin her game by flaring up. “Yeah, you heard right. It seems you’ve also forgotten what Mark did to me, and how he disappeared into thin air after that. You didn’t think about those evil acts. All you care about is yourself, and your family.” “No, Charles. You are wrong. I really do not believe that Mark tried to kill you. It could be someone who tried to frame him up. I know him very well, Charles. Please overlook all that, and help me out for old times sake.” Mrs. Adam pleaded earnestly. But Charles didn’t say a word. “Please help, Charles. At least for the love you once had for Angela.” Mrs. Adam pleaded again, hoping that he would at least. Charles scoffed, and was not moved by the trick she was trying to pull. To him, that was something one could say to him that could even make him change his mind about helping out if he wanted to. “You need to know that these will never work on me. Mrs. Adam, please leave, and keep that trash you call a grand-daughter.” Charles said as he stood up. Then he stopped, and glanced at her. “Oh, wait. For your company, I’ll never return the ownership rights to you. I will rather sell it off for a few dollars.” Charles added, and slid his hands into his pockets as he headed for his chair. Mrs. Adam slammed her hand on the table in anger, and stood up with a frown on her face. Charles sat on his chair, and stared at her, interested in what she had to say in anger. “You filthy man. How dare you speak to me like that! Just because you have a few companies or powerful people, you decided to turn your back on us who made you someone in life!” Mrs. Adam yelled as she raised her eyebrows furiously. Then she added. “Have you also forgotten that you were once a son-in-law whom we picked up from the dust, and made someone out of? How could you be this ungrateful?” Mrs. Adam yelled at the top of her voice. Charles chuckled and smacked his lips. “Well, tell me. Are you still somebody?” Charles shot the question at her with a sneer. That look and words shut Mrs. Adam up, and she couldn’t say a word anymore. Her pride and ego were visibly hurt, and that only made her even more furious. Her hatred for him grew instantly, and she picked up her bag, then stormed out of his office. Charles scoffed, and shook his head. “Now, I can work in peace.” He said to himself as he resumed his work, checking through a few important projects. A knock came up on his door again, and he slammed his hand on his face. “I guess today is a really busy day for me.” He muttered under his breath. “Come in.” Vera walked in with her tab on her right hand. “Good morning. I heard of the commotion that happened. I hope nothing went missing?” Vera asked. “No. He couldn’t touch a thing before I came.” Charles answered, and exhaled. “Alright then. I came to inform you on your schedule. The court meeting would be happening this week, and I think things might favor us.” Before Charles could speak, a call came in for him, and it was from Mr. Grayson. “Hello, Mr. Grayson. Nice to hear from you.” Charles greeted, with a smile on his face. “Same here, Charles. But I need you to do something for the benefit of both of us.” “What’s that?” Charles asked, inquisitively. “You might need to go on a business trip.”
