Revenge of the Rejected
Charles loved the idea as he felt it was a mind blowing one, but the first thing he was going to do to make that idea come to reality was to acquire a building of his own. A tech company which would be the master of all tech companies. He wanted that because most of the tech companies he had was either acquired from someone else, or it was a partnership deal. Now, he desired his very own tech company. “I guess something is cooking for there to be smiles all over your face.” Vera interrupted Charles’ wonderful thought. Charles looked at her, and smiled deeply. “Well, I guess. And I’m sure it’s going to work out really well.” Charles said, with a smile on his face. “It certainly will. I’m sure those workers at Adam’s company won’t see this coming.” “I know right? I also didn’t know I would be going back there this soon, but let’s give them the benefit of the doubt. Some workers, if not all, could have done the work right away.” Charles said as he leaned his back on the car seat, and exhaled with his eyes closed. Soon, they got to the tech company, and Charles and Vera got down from the car, and walked into the company. Everyone greeted them as they walked into the elevator, and then he called the manager. “Assemble everyone who attended the last meeting at the conference hall now.” Charles instructed with a straight face. “Alright sir.” “Wait. Anyone who comes in here five minutes late will be fired. Tell that to them.” Charles added, and headed off to the conference room. As Charles took his seat, Vera did the same as well, with her seat, not far from his. Charles began to look at his watch, checking the time, and hoping that they all took to time as he didn’t want to be too harsh on them. Before the given time elapsed, people began to come in with a file, and some came empty handed. At one glance, Charles knew those who did the assignment already, and those who didn’t. “Alright, good day, everyone.” Charles voiced out as soon as everyone were seated. “Good day, Sir.” They all chorused. “I’m certain that you all were not expecting me so soon. Even I myself didn’t know that I was going to come here this soon as well. But I guess it is what it is, and today, I’ll find out those who are really serious about this.” Charles said as he looked around. He could tell that some of them were tensed already, judging from the way they looked uncomfortable, and their eyes avoided contact with his. He smiled at that, then moistened his lips before he continued. “If you did the assignment, I gave you, push your work forward to where Vera is seated.” Charles said, and folded his arms. Then he watched as a few people pushed their file towards Vera, and sat down back. They were about 5 people out of 21 that submitted. Charles shook his head, and exhaled as he pondered on what next to do. “We…we apologize sir. We were just taken aback, and it still doesn’t beat the fact that we didn’t take it serious enough to work on it as soon as you left.” One of the executives pleaded, scared of the action Charles would take, regarding this. “And for whatever action you make, there is always a reward or a consequence. Now, to those who didn’t the assignment, I will suspend you for 2 weeks to ponder on what you did, and it’s your choice to come back or not.” Charles proclaimed with seriousness, and then picked up the other documents. He began to check them one by one to be certain they did something worthy. After he was done checking them briefly, he nodded his head satisfyingly, and looked up. “For those who did these assignments, you have done well, and I will be increasing your salary for this.” Charles revealed, with a smile on his face. They thanked him happily, and sat back comfortably, thanking the heavens that they did the assignment. Those who didn’t do it, felt remorse, and wished that they had done it in the first place. They didn’t hate Charles for acting that way. It only opened their eyes and made them know that they had been at slumber since the time the Adams were in control of the company. “So, I can see the suggestions you all made are okay, and I’ll pick the major suggestions I could grab from it which are strictness in staff coming early, monthly reward for best staff in each section, creating mind blowing ideas, every six months, etc.” Everyone listened keenly, and their interest were piqued on what he was going to say regarding all that. “Alright, we really need to ensure you all come early, and whoever gets to work later than 5 minutes without a tangible reason, his or her salary would take the fall. Understood?” Charles said to ensure he was carrying them all along.“Understood, sir.” They chorused. “And as for monthly reward for best staff in each section, I’ll approve that as well. It will boost your willingness to work, and put in your best efforts.” Charles went through the main suggestions one by one, and the workers were quite pleased with all he said as they were favorable to them, and there was equality in all he had said, which they lacked, under the Adams regime. “It was nice doing business with you all. For those who have been suspended, kindly go over to the secretary’s office to get your suspension letter processed, and ensure you come back with your suggestions at the end of the 2 weeks break from work.” “Also, you won’t be paid your full salary as you didn’t work for the betterment of the company within those 2 weeks.” Charles added, and walked out of the conference room with Vera by his side. Some of the workers were remorseful and delighted to get back to work after the suspension as they couldn’t wait to get out of the rewards that would come with working efficiently, while the others were being grumpy and disliking him already. Those were definitely the people who didn’t work much, but ate the rewards of the sweat of others. Now that Charles had taken over the company, it meant they were going to start having busy schedules. Charles got to the lobby, and was about exiting the company when he received a call from an unknown number. He was reluctant to answer the call before, but he felt convinced since many people now knew him, and any important information could be passed. “Hello?” “Hi Charles.” Charles’ mouth dropped dead and his eyes widened in shock as the voice which sounded familiar over the phone call at the moment, sounded just like his mother’s.
