Revenge of the Rejected
Mark wondered why the Governor was suddenly at his back, and didn’t say anything until he turned around. “I wonder for how long he has been here.” Mark thought to himself. “Do you need anything, Governor?” Mark asked, hoping there was no problem. “Nothing actually. I see you were about leaving but can you stay here just for a moment to talk with you?” George requested. “Yes, sure, sure.” Mark gladly replied, and moved closer to the rails. “Good. I see you’re really capable. Just like your friend here.” “My friend?” Mark questioned, taken by surprise. It seemed to him that Angela didn’t reveal that they are siblings. Mark wondered how not revealing that they are siblings would help better, because George didn’t look like he cared if they were friends or not, except they are lovers. “Yes. Your friend. Or isn’t she your friend?” “Yes…yes, she is.” Mark responded, hoping this wasn’t going to cause an issue later. “Alright. So, as I was saying, I have recognized your capability to handle some situations and I will like to make use of this skill if you’ll permit.” George said as he leaned on the rails. “I’m at your service, Governor. Whatever you need me to do, I’ll do it.” Mark assured with a glint of joy in his eyes. “Alright. So, I need you to dig more on Charles. I want you to push yourself to him to an extent that you’ll know of their meetings and important plans, just so we can plan against it. You understand, right?” The Governor revealed, staring at Mark with a slight smile. Mark felt pressure on him as he felt this was too big for him to handle. Charles had barely accepted him into his league which is on a different level from the rest of the people he works with and his level was definitely lower, regardless of whatever he had to offer. He became lost in thoughts, thinking of strategies to use, but there was none at the moment, because they all seemed unwise. “Does it seem too hard for you?” George asked, snapping Mark out of his thoughts. “Uhm… I…” “If you’ll be taking the offer, I’ll be sending 2 million dollars to your account, and when we finally take Charles down, I’ll give you any position you want in the political line.” George interrupted him and ran his fingers through his hair. On hearing that, Mark felt charged up and was very interested in doing it. He knew that having any position in the political line meant fame, power, respect, and money. Although, the challenge was quite a hard one, but he was willing to try it since what was at stake was really nice. “Yes… I will do that. You can count on me.” Mark replied George. “Good. I will give you the support you need. Just do what you’re meant to do.” George assured, and patted Mark’s shoulder. “And text me your account details. You have my contact.” George requested, and left. Mark looked out to the sky, and could feel his heart glowing in joy. It was as if the heavens had decided to bless him all at once this week. He brought out his phone and quickly texted his account details. In about five minutes, his phone beeped and an alert came up. George had just sent him a million dollars. Mark wanted to shout in joy, but he comported himself, and covered his mouth so he would only let out muffled shouts. That night, Mark had his own special person celebration as he was really high on joy. The next day, Charles woke up to a text message from Mr. Grayson’s secretary which read: “We invite you to the conference meeting for the robots prototype invention.” “Do they need to do this too?” Charles grunted, feeling tired. He had overworked himself this week, and it was beginning to tell on him. He got prepared for the conference meeting and met with Vera in the sitting room. “Is there anything wrong?” Vera asked, squinting her eyes at him, out of curiosity. “No. Why do you ask?” Charles questioned as he slid his phone into his pocket. “Well, you don’t look too good. You look tired.” Vera answered as she picked up her file. “Oh, yeah. I guess I am.” Charles said, waving the tensed atmosphere in the sitting room. “You need a vacation. You shouldn’t overwork yourself. Do you want me to book a vacation flight for you this weekend?” Vera suggested formally. “Well, I don’t think I need one now. I’ll go on a vacation only when I have solved the issue on ground. I can’t wait to see the ugly face which George will make when I’m done with him. And as for Angela who went with him because her dull brain thinks he is going to win, I’m going to teach her a lesson after that.” Charles smirked, and adjusted his watch.Vera didn’t bother saying a word again because she knew Charles had made up his mind on it. Even if she kept on giving him reasons on why he had to take a vacation, he wouldn’t budge. Charles and Vera got into the car and drove off to Gray Tech Company. As soon as they got to the reception, they were directed to the conference room. At the conference room, Mr. Grayson, and a few masterminds behind robots’ invention were all sitting comfortably on their seats. “You’re welcome, Mr. Charles.” Mr. Grayson welcomed him with a clap and every other person did the same. He and Vera took their seat as Vera was also good at giving suggestions for the growth of any idea. “Alright, so, we are here to listen to what my workers have to say on their idea of the robots they plan to build.” Mr. Grayson explained. “Oh! I would have brought in a few of my workers if I knew that we could talk about the ideas so soon.” Charles replied with a smile. “Oh, it’s fine. They just had a presentation they wanted to show you which would be like an audition just to see if they are good enough to join your people to make a wonderful robot.” Mr. Grayson explained further. Just then Mr. Grayson’s secretary walked in, and then bent to him to speak to him. “Mr. Jefferson is here. He says he wants to see you.” The secretary informed. “Jefferson? What is he doing here?” Charles thought to himself, feeling displeased.
